Any player in the next 10 years who could be considered as good as Roger Federer?

Grigor Dimitrov?

Has a topspin backhand which Federer doesn't. Also has the forehand and movement

Marin Cilic?

Extraordinary mental strength. Huge serve. Big forehand

Andy Murray?

I know he hasn't won a GS yet but every time I see him play, he seems to have the tools to expand his game even further. He just needs to be quicker in deciding his gameplan

Ernest Gulbis?

Lets say he has a near death experience....

You are including a guy who just lost to Donald Young in a challenger event!?!? Dmitrov is looking like the most overhyped prospect in tennis now, possibly eclipsing even Gulbis. No none of those guys will be, not even close. If there is a guy the upcoming decade who could be as good as Federer it is someone we havent seen yet. Rafa could have been but for his chronic knee issues and now he never will be, but no matter what he does from here still a great player in his own right of course. Murray could become a great player someday too, but definitely not someone in double digit slams.

It needs about ten years to be considered as good as federer - thats how long he has been around. So no, Idont expect it that soon. If anyone from now, I would pick murray, he is t he most complete player. Cilic istoo one dimensional.

When Federer won his first grand slam in 2003, nobody thought he could win 14. But he had help by being challenged by the likes of David Ferrer, James Blake and Lubijic. I remember in late 2001 watching Federer and thinking that he was extremely stubborn because he kept firing his backhand at the same spot. At the time Safin was being considered to be able to be as good as Sampras since he won his first Grandslam at 20 years old.

In terms of achievements - JMDP is the only hope. Maybe Tomic.

In terms of 'talent' then Safin is the only contender.

Tennis wise, maybe, maybe not,I can't see the future. But I can't see anyone winning 15 GS in 7 years,16 MS,making 23 straight GS semi's,breaking 90% of all tennis records and so on. Very, very tough to do.

I am 22. I doubt that I will ever see anyone as talented and successful as Federer. Federer has a topspin backhand. In fact, that has led to his backhand losing it's effect. It was definitely a much more devastating shot before he started to add more spin.

I mean really, trolling is an art. At some point in your career you have to actually step back, take a look at what you have done, and just say "wow I am a f**king horrible troll"

Same was thought about Sampras...
why is thoust giventh me hope? if the general consesus iseth thath Roger beith the greatest for a bloody long time to cometh, why must thoust giveth false hope?

roger fits the bill of greatest of all time perfectly I guess. He's elegant, good looking.. I don't see anybody with the "greatest" aura coming any time soon.

unless rafa gets his act together!

Maybe someone will turn up closer to the end of Fed's career that will strip his Wimbledon crown from him ala Fed vs Sampras Wimbledon 2001...

-facepalm-

Cilic is sure good, but extraordinary mental strength? Uh,he doesn't have that yet Im afraid.

Dimitrov...god he has to be the most overrated underperformer ive ever seen.

Gulbis has great potential, but something is clearly holding him back.

Murray is on the right track. Hes become more aggressive,im seeing a grand slam champ in him.

I'd put Murray,Djokovic and Del Potro ahead of Cilic,Gulbis and Dimitrov respectively.

I don't think we will ever see another player as good as Federer. The accomplishments Federer has achieved is mesmerizing. However everyone said we would never see a player surpass 14 grand slams after Sampras retired and all of a sudden not even 10 years later Federer has achieved what no man has done before.

Federer is an iconic symbol of greatness, he's almost as good as me and thats saying a lot.

i dont see anyone coming
top 5 players in few years: djoko, murray, del potro, cilic, tsonga
i dont see any of them winning 10 slams
in fact its more likely that after fed therell be a "middle era" just like it happened after sampras
and then maybe in another 10 or so years we will have someone dominating the game and winning 10 slams again

just my guess

Rookie
I think that middle era will last much more than 2-3 years.
The slams (besides the ones Fed might add to his) will split to Nadal, Djoko, Murray, Potro and possibly some other players.
That is why in the next 10 years, almost impossible, to see a player threaten or even come close to win more then 10 slams.

Same was thought about Sampras...

not really...

sampras was a good player, but not someone from another planet. he lost to lots of players and was lacking on one surface.

His game also wasn't consistently as overwhelming/dominating as federer.

Yep. Have been following the sport for over 35 years, and what Federer has done so far is rightout astonishing, incredible. And then to think that he isn't even done yet!
But on the other hand... some 8 years ago, I believed Sampras' record of 14 GS would survive the test of time for quite a while. Well it didn't last all that long at all. So who knows...?

no chance.

probably won't see a talent like Fed in my lifetime again.

Every young tennis fan having the luck of seeing Federer break all those records LIVE should cherish the experience of having been there to witness it. It might well be a very, very long time until a comparable talent will come along again.
