Anyone tried out the Luxilon Smart String yet?

Seems promising because Luxilon has been laying down heat since day one. We are excited here

I actually haven't heard hardly anything about it other than that it has a tension range of 40-48 pounds. I've seen the marketing pitch for it once or twice and that's it; no ads/hype like the Clash, no reviews from anyone yet, etc. I'm very interested in it though and hope that I can try it soon.

Had a couple friends have a pack, however their stringers haha and not to knock on their review, but they dont really play haha.

However all I heard is that the string has a "feel" during the stringing process that is a bit rubbery (his choice of words)

I'm excited apparently the way it is composed the material at high impact flexes or forms up making it a more controlled type string on higher impact.
Sounds smart to me... I think retails at 20usd or 280-90ish reel

Yeah, that's all I've really heard as well: on full swings, it stiffens up for control, but on lesser impacts, it's softer for greater touch. If so, this could be fantastic. But there have been plenty of products in the past with big hypes and interesting marketing ideas that didn't turn out to be anything revolutionary like it was supposed to. I'm definitely optimistic, especially since they specify that it needs lower tensions than normal, but still a little skeptical until I can actually try it myself.

i finally got to hit with it yesterday
its a comfortable feel string
its a mix of poly/synthetic, in a pizza pie configuraton, black/grey color
similar contruction/configuration of lux.element
anyway, it plays like a stiffer synthetic gut,
i strung it up 3lbs higher than my normal poly setups
next time ill go up another 2 lbs to dial in the tension for me,, thats right around the synthetic gut tension range i string, multis ill usually go up a couple more lbs..
anyway, its a worth while string to try
it should fit perfect for with the wilson.clash racquet, since it would benefit from a power oriented string..

IMO..

I played with it in a Clash Tour and the whole set up felt kinda weird. Hard to tell if it's the racquet or the string but it's was super slingshot feeling. I also played the Clash with NXT 16 which felt more pillow but both have lots of power

I hit with it a little a while ago. May have been the fact that it was in an ultra 100, but it didn't feel particularly nice. In fact it felt pretty odd.

I don't see it on TW website for sale yet ? do you know what is going on ?

the w. rep said it would come out with the w.clash rackets
imo is going to be a good combo, w.clash with l.smart
ive been hitting with it recently, "free", pack from rep..
good feel string,
comfortable and controllable, good pop, decent spin (think of it as a crisper syngut..),
only downside is durability from what ive read from others comment,, im not a string breaker so it works perfect for me "flat hitter"
going on about 2 weeks

What happens if you string this around 53 lbs ? would it completely mess up it properties ? or its potential abilities ? and make it stupid string ?

@Nostradamus
i got mine strung at 52lbs now, that 3lbs higher than i string polys usually
next time im gonna go 2lbs higher to dial it in, for ME,, on my y.vcore rackets
w.clash rackets being sooo flexible, require different tension than my vcores,
going low tension on the w.clash sticks is provably a good start tension
my advise,, what ever poly tension you like, go 2 to 3lbs higher to start, on your rackets to get a feel of the string on your
this string also feels alot like a full poly string job, strung in 20-30lb range (if you ever tried polys that low!!).

I used this string before it was released.

I strung my racket on 19kg and it was so bad!
After 30min I was playing with a trampoline...
I found it a waste of money.

I am not a professional player at all, so I wonder how professional players are going to deal with this...

I didn’t had the feeling that I hoped and also not so good control.
I play a mixed game, I play with a lot of topspin and also sometimes flat.

I did not have any control when I wanted to hit the ball faster (more topspin), so I am really not happy about the string.

i got mine strung up at 52lbs (for a couple weeks now), and thinks its slightly loose from the start

i cant imagine stringing this string in the 40s
as stated above by @Nico722 , it would feel like a trampoline

i read the suggested tension on the TW site,, and spoke to another stringer whos going with the suggested tension,, but my personal experience is telling me i need to go higher,, like a synthetic gut tension, or a babolat.origin tension

does anyone else have this experience as well??
stinging the luxilon smart in the 40s??

have you had a chance to try this string yet??
i personally like the string
its a nice feel string, and the spin is well worth a play test
its a nice string for luxilon and expect it to sell well if they can control the prince to make it more available for people
good option for strong juniors,
women who are playing with hybrids
most club level men

MAYBE too powerful for stronger players/college/pro players

Above reviewer said it is too trampoline like and launch pad, can't control it and it is bad

I tried it tonight on my Clash Tour, strung at 48lbs. Didn’t like the low tension, the racquet was basically a sling shot. My slices were amazing and my volleys were crisp. I felt the ball really got away from me if I didn’t execute a perfect forehand/backhand. I’m not knocking the string, the lower tension recommendation just didn’t work for me.

yeah, thats what i tought
i have no idea how luxilon think this string at low 40lbs is going to work on most racquets (maybe on the wilson.class or very felexible sticks))
next set im stringing at 54lbs
they should advise ppl of tension on a particular racquet pattern, exa.. 40-48 on 16/19 rkts// 38-46 on 18/20 rkts,, etc

How long does it keep tension?

it holds pretty well, its been several weeks on my racket; movement is minimal,,, 4me
i know people dont equate movement with tension maintenance, but thats the easy sign i look for
notching 4me is also not that bad, ive been looking for signs of wear as well, since string breakers mentioned that it is not a durable string,, which i would agree when dealing with a sift string

i can see tight pattern rackets doing well with this string
16/19s and more open patterns might not get the same longevity

Bump, anyone tried it with a natural gut hybrid? Seems quite promising and marketing says its fairly arm friendly and soft and firms up the faster you swing?

There is a huge back order on our end. I got a estimate of my package in June... however, they are working on it...
TW probably already has it...

No sign of it over in the UK either. TWE has some in stock, but have never been competitive with Luxilon prices compared to my local market.

I'm a little disappointed as I'd been testing Element and liked it enough to make the switch, but then saw Smart announced and decided to give it a go before making the decision. I'd be interested in hearing a comparison from anyone who has played with both. In the meantime, I'm taking the opportunity to use up random sets and ends of reels that have been in the inventory for years and I don't seem to shift any more.

I've wanted to give element a try, seen some mixed reviews about it. Currently I play with 4g and 4g/wilson NG

How does it play in a full bed or a hybrid? Hows the comfort and does it really get "stuck" after a few hours?

Thanks

I'll try to keep this brief so as not to derail this thread.

I've already said that I like Element a lot. I tried the 1.25 and 1.30 Rough, both in a full bed. The comfort was key to me: I like playing with poly, but even softer ones like Cyclone Tour give me arm problems. No issues at all with Element on that front. Basically, it's the closest I've found to a poly playability wise that I can play with in a full bed. Power was up, the only negative for me was that the occasional ball would sail in a way I don't usually see. Tension did drop considerably, which I imagine would generate poor reviews from many people. No sign of the stringbed locking up, though possibly worth noting that I string at fairly low tension. The crosses do show a wear pattern, but my mains were still moving freely despite the notching. If you click on the thumbnail below (and then click again to zoom in), you'll see what I mean.

My preference was for the 1.25, which is smooth. If it weren't for the imminent release of Smart, I'd have bought a reel. I'm just intrigued to try that first.

I play with a bunch of guys who use Element 1.25 so I was given a set to try. I was using Solstice Power so I upped the tension by about 5% to make up for Element being so much softer.

I didn't like it and cut it out after a couple of sessions. It very soft and elastic, and feels like it pockets the ball well, but the launch angle was significantly lower than Solstice Power, and with what felt like only about 70% of the spin. I don't know that I ever managed to clear the net trying to topspin a low slice without deliberately changing my swing mechanics, and slices would tend to float long and high. On the flip side, it was nice and plush when hitting the ball pretty flat, and was pretty insensitive to incoming spin so volleying against heavy top or heavy slice was a piece of cake.

Just strung my racket with it, will give it a go tomorrow or friday.
I usually string at 55lb, went with 48lb (max recommended) to see whats what.

I hope it works out for you, when I tried 48lbs it was way too low. The racquet was basically a trampoline at that tension for me.

Smart has arrived in the first shop in the UK. £19.99.

I've ordered a couple of sets of gut whilst I wait to see if the price drops to something more sensible.

Have you tried Isospeed Cream? How would you compare element to Cream?
