First three are good shouts, but those last two? How about Zverev's 2 1000 finals? Krajinovic over Querrey and Isner? Haas over Federer?

I was even more surprised with Goffin's win than Donskoy's considering Federer rarely ever gives opportunities to inferior players at World Tour Finals. I already saw his name on the 2017 trophy and I am sure many others did at the time too.

I know it's only ATP matches, but the following upsets are universally accepted as the biggest of 2017.

Istomin def Djokovic AO
Zverev def Murray AO
Querrey def Nadal Acapulco
Goffin def Fed WTF
Shapovalov def Nadal Montreal

These are the biggest upsets of 2017 by a country mile. Nothing else comes close. I don't care about some smaller tournaments like Dubai (when Fed was still drunk on victory) and Stuttgart.

Completely agree. Maybe I would swap Thiem-Nadal at Rome for the Querrey-Nadal match at Acapulco

No one saw big Sam upsetting Nadal in a final of all stages. That's why that upset was bigger. I was shocked when I checked the score and saw that Sam won in straights

Maybe, but that tournament was not a good version of Nadal. I dont even say that Querrey was redlining, Nadal was bad in that final

I thought we were excluding the slams my understanding being that they're run by the ITF, but including them I'd definitely include Zverev over Murray and Istomin over Djokovic, throw in Muller over Nadal 63 64 36 46 15/13, although given it's Muller's favourite surface and possibly Rafa's least favourite it wasn't as big as the others mentioned.

I disagree with Pospisil beating Murray as #5. Lucky loser Jordan Thompson (who had only won 3 ATP matches in his whole career) beating the world number 1 and the 3x defending champ Andy Murray in Queens was far bigger. Pospisil is a former Wimbledon QFist and slam doubles champ after all whilst Thompson was a far bigger upset...

Also don't think Dzumhur over Stan is that big of an upset considering he had a stellar year and is now top 30 with 2 titles and a final all in the last few months of 2017. Plus, Stan upsets are VERY frequent...

And Haas over Fed was a MASSIVE upset in Stuttgart, especially when you remember that Bernard Tomic beat Haas on grass the following week in Halle...

And Murray hasn't done amazingly well at IW in his career compared with Queens.

Yup! Andy was the 3x defending champ. Huge upset.
Somehow then #3 Stan losing as defending champ in Dubai to now top 30 player Dzumhur is a bigger deal than then #1 Murray losing as 3x defending champ to a not top 80 player like Thompson?? Doesn't make sense.

It was kind of the perfect storm. Aside from the FO Murray was in a slump and Thompson was hitting career best form. It's one of those matches where if a player has been playing great tennis recently and the other not then the ranking becomes almost irrelevant.

He was actually 2 x defending champion (2016-17) but your point still stands of course.
