BDE Performance Gut = ?

At one point, when I was more active on these forums, I had done a gut comparison. BDE Perf. gut won out, and I hoarded them as they became more difficult to find.

Are they under a different name now? Is there any way to find more?
Do any former users have a new gut that matches the softness of this string?

I have recently tried Klip again, and it is stiffer and without the same feel to me. I have a set of Tonic yet untested. VS was never my preference, but maybe I have to give that another try. What are former BDE players using now?

Thanks!

Haven't seen BDE around for a while. Like Bow Brand, they seem to have gone the way of the dodo bird.

If you think Kip is a tad stiff, then give Pacific Classic a try. Slightly more expensive than Klip, but less than Tonic.

Bow brand gut was my favorite gut string for years. Plus the price was great. I hated to see them stop making tennis strings. I heard they were back making tennis strings but I haven't found a good reliable source to buy them from.
I had read here that the older green Prince gut packaging was actually BDE gut.

The Prince Natural Gut from a couple of years ago (the predominantly green packaging) was widely rumored as manufactured by BDE and having identical or extremely similar playing characteristics.

I have used both but can't confirm because the only time I used BDE Performance was about 10 years ago, so it is difficult to recall what that felt like.

But Prince Natural Gut plays very nicely.

The old green packaged Prince natural gut was BDE; but it is now produced by Babolat.

BDE is no more.

I had to break out w/ my currency converter. $25 a pack for Professional and $30 Championship seems like a good deal. Unfortunately, it would cost me $20 in shipping (or 'carriage' as the Brits refer to it) to get it across the pond.

Hopefully someone will start carrying it here soon.

didnt think of the postage/carriage to the US
stringers world is only round the corner from me and there prices are the best around.

im playing around with all sorts of strings at the moment as ive just got a stringing machine,am going to settle on gut/poly but am enjoying the play testing/stringing,sad i no but im easily pleased lol

cheers garry

Thanks again guys. I'll try a few others out, and will include the Prince - and I'll try checking around for old packaging.

I have a couple unopened sets of BDE Rallye 15L that I probably don't need. I think rallye was to Performance as tonic is to VS.

Paul, do you have any information on the current state of Bow Brand? I think it was you who mentioned they had been building a new drying room.

Thanks.

Don't forget if the package is shipped via FedEx or UPS, they'll come after you for taxes.

I wish their gut was available here in the states. Their gut ( at the time I bought it years back) was the best gut deal around. Plus it played great.

There appears to be only one source for Bow Brand in the US.
I tried to order some a few months ago but it was backordered.
Maybe that has changed. $34 a set for Champ.

I've got one pack of BDE Perf left in the fridge too...not sure what to try next except the expensive Wilson gut which should be the same as the old expensive Babolat VS gut...
