Blade V8 Official Thread.

The Wilson Australia site has the exact same specs listed for the v8 as the v7. The only thing not listed is RA.
do they?

They don't have beam width, swingweight (they never have that), and obviously no RA b/c wilson never lists or uses RA...

It only has head size 98 (it is a blade 98).. and the racket is 27inches long and 305gram. basically, they have no real specs.

Why? This also same data:

For example, new Yonex Vcore pro 97 310 has sw 318.

May be, we don't want to belive in this RA and SW.. remains to wait for the official release.
i don't think Wilson releases a blade line with 345sw strung. that is why. vcp 97 has 318 sw (strung)... there is about 28-32sw pts difference between a strung and unstrung racket...

One last special edition Blade before its send off to v8?

Humbert is using it.

So there's going to be a NYC blade v8 cosmetic and this one from Humbert? Or is this one not releasing?

A few more photos of it

Sorry but i am of those that i wanted high RA to return back to the Blade line. So i am hoping to similar power levels with Blade CV but with a more plush/soft feel like V5 or V7.
is the 98S still dead in the v8 line? im not sure how they botched it so badly going from v5 to CV.

I called Wilson’s customer service yesterday to bring up the 69 RA unstrung (65-66 strung) rumor, and the associate said that the direction they started with the v7 and lower flex rating would continue. This echoes what 2 local pro shops to me have said. Take that for what it’s worth, but I believe the 3 sources that have all verbally affirmed the same thing.

Yeah they better stay with the low RA and let us , who like more raw easy power , go to other companies.

I asked a Wilson guy at the US Open about that a couple years ago when they debuted the V7. He said that apparently they’d been getting a lot of complaints from American users of the 98S about strings breaking too easily and so they dropped it from the US market.

I used the S as well but ultimately just adjusted to the 16/19. Everytime I pull out my old 98S the spin I get is crazy!

i love the spin i get from it. it does go through strings pretty quickly though.

i have a v7 98s - its not such a bad string eater (compared to the old 99s its an angel!)

that’s good to know. I do feel like I remember my strings breaking a lot with my Countervail one.
I considered getting the S on a trip to Japan but got impatient and moved to the 16/19. Maybe we’ll see what they do for V8

Bearing in mind I was not a Marketing major, my guess is this new paint job for the Blades, Pros/H22s will be a massive marketing blunder for Wilson. We are all fans to some degree of the Blade racquet. I don’t think the new versions will be much different in terms of playability. I may even like the way it looks in my bag or in my hand while playing. BUT WHAT ABOUT SEEING IT ON TV? It looks like it could be about any nondescript frame out there. Unless you have a close shot, you wouldn’t know it is even a Wilson racquet aside from the stencil ink. Previously, I don’t think there was a more obviously ubiquitous frame on the ATP tour (lots on WTA too). How do you throw that marketing edge away?

Didn’t even think about this aspect but you’re right. Love the cosmetic in pictures and I’m sure in person as well but on TV you can’t tell that it’s a blade at all

That is a very important aspect! I did watch some matches on tennis-tv and it’s almost impossible to see the PJ of the new blades. It’s very very cool in hand but I presume we will see some new reverse version with some stand out color at the time of aus open

This just arrived. 320 grams strung with 4G rough and about 6 points head light with plastic still on the handle. Have yet to test it on court but a few ball bounces and hitting against the wall it is solid, smooth (no harsh vibes), not mushy at all or overly muted, and generally reminds me of the Head iRadical, which is a good thing in my books.

sick! Does it feel similar to the v7, in terms of softness and flex? Love the ball pocketing of the v7. Also, did the beam stay 21 mm or did it bump up to 22?

What type of paint does it have? I like gloss finishes but those don't seem to be offered anymore by Wilson

Is it actually 22m or still 21?

I find it interesting Wilson used the same font and size on the Blade/Wilson in the throat of the US Open LE v8 as the v7 rackets. But the regular V8 blades have a different sizing on the Blade/Wilson font

Different feel to v7. I understand what you're saying, I played with the 18x20 v7 for a while and this does not have the same softness and flex. V8 is not harsh though. I can't see any difference in the beam width side by side with the v7. Would need callipers to accurately measure that.

thank you! The beam looks the same in the side by side pic.

Does it still have that awful rubber paint?
