Was it really that good? It imo is one of the best looking APDs but isn’t it stiff? Or would you pair it with a multi.
Haha imo, yes it was and still is! I grew up a Rafan since ‘05. Back then, I would string it with a multi since it was softer for my small arms. As I grew older, I’ve switched on and off with it playing with various racquets from different companies. I even got bought in to the OG PA which I ended up hating because of the string spacing and stiffness. The OG APD was a stiff frame, but overtime with stringing it has soften up a bit. I play with the MSV Focus Hex 16g Poly in Black at 50lbs. Soft poly with great durability imo.

@Babolat Official sorry to ask what may be an odd or difficult question but was there a mold change in the pure drive line going from the 2015 to the 2018/2021? The beam looks kinda different going between the racquets. Does anyone at Babolat know anything about a mold change? Thank you.

Will the grommets for the 3rd gen Babolat Pure Strike 98, 18x20 fit the 2nd gen Pure Strike 98 18x20 Project One7 ?

I've heard a few conflicting answers. Some people say only the throat grommets don't fit but the the head grommets fit fine.

I'm am considering getting a 2nd or 3rd gen Pure Strike 98 18x20 but don't want to get a racquet that will be difficult to get grommets for in the future.

Hi onehand,

Yes, the grommets are interchangeable between the two generations, other than the throat piece.

Babolat as a company has done amazing work. The Discography by TW on Babolat is nicely done. Certainly not unhappy with my PA+ frames, but would tweak them by making the pattern tighter in the middle and lose the elongated grommet holes if I were granted a few wishes from Babolat.

The good news is Babolat takes feedback from their pro players and the rec players so that is much appreciated.

e.g. a few year back back they released new 12 pack racquet bags but the bags weren't long enough to hold the PD+ or PA+. When I struggled to get one + frame in the bag, I called TW and emailed Babolat. They confirmed their bags were too short for the + frames, took my return, then took the feedback and changed their bags to accommodate their longer frames.

TW's Michelle (IMO the happiest person on the planet) [emoji2] even mentions this in an online review of the updated 12 pack bags.

The same Josh / @BabolatOfficial is the gentleman who gave me the great info on using the APD #90021 Guards on the 09-14 PD back in 2017 on this message board. Babolat as a company is a great from my view as a rec stringer.

The ability to take older donated Babolat frames, add new grommets / guards, new grips, then string and give to some local teaching pros to put in the hands of kids who can't afford new frames is something I truly enjoy. I can't do this with Wilson without paying $35 for grommets off of the big auction house. Babolat has made this possible by continuing to make grommets long after a frame's production has ended. Babolat probably has no idea their frames are been recycled like this but I am certainly not the only guy doing this.

Yes I am teasing @BabolatOfficial about the APD, but believe the market for the APD is there. When I tell a client his favorite broken APD frame is no longer available new, I get the shocked sad look. And yep hoping Babolat does rerelease the APD and the APD

Thanks Babolat!

Thanks for the kind words g4! We do listen to feedback from here, and these threads are watched by folks here in the US and in France, so we appreciate all of the feedback. I know many want to see us reintroduce the Aeropro Drive, and perhaps we will one day. As far as more flexible frames go, that is somewhat of the thought behind the VS line of racquets. I realize they may not be flexible enough for some, and they are a slightly smaller head, but that line is designed to offer just a bit more precision than the standard Pure Drive or Pure Aero. For now, we are concentrating on the release of the new Pure Drive, but who knows what 2021 will bring, so stay tuned!

Why isn't the Soft Drive coming back depsite the demand for a softer Pure Drive? o_O
Hi Raysu,

I would check out the Pure Drive VS if you are looking for a softer Pure Drive. I know it may not be as soft as some would like to see, but perhaps we will revisit something along the lines of the Soft drive at some point. The Pure Drive has been one of the most popular frames throughout the years, so it's hard to want to mess with it too much, but we are always listening to the feedback from all of our customers, so you never know.

Hi SinneGOAT,

The mold was changed slightly, but I'm not exactly sure in what ways. I will try to find out specifics for you regarding the differences.

Hey Josh, this is me personally so I don’t speak for everyone but coming from low powered frames, the flex for the Pure Aero 2019 is perfect. I never have had arm problems even with a set of dead RPM Blast.

Glad to hear that! As you know, it's such a personal choice, and what works for one player doesn't for another. We'll never please everyone, but I think we've been successful in making frames that appeal to a very wide range of abilities, from club players to the best players in the world. We'll keep listening and adapting though, and we strive to stay ahead of the curve as much as possible.

Hi Josh,
Thank you so much for staying so active and open to the feedback of TT community.
I have a long and happy experience with Babolat racquets. Especially I have been using PD and APD for several years and really liked these racquets.
But currently my racquet is not a Babolat, because I found something providing better feel and comfort and same level playability. Honestly, I think you are making great great sticks but as many other tennis fans here, I would really like to see Babolat climbing one more step on the scale of comfort and feel. A few brands like Prince made the demonstration that you can make super good tweeners without super high stiffness.
Do that and I promise I will switch to Babolat again ; it is pretty clear that many players are just hoping for that too.

I don’t want to sound mean or anything but what strings do you use! Why not a multi?

Unfortunately I m breaking strings very quickly. The best compromise for me is a "soft poly" for what it means. But really, I m not bashing Babolat and I think they are not worse with regards to comfort than the majority of their competitors. It's just that I m puting more value now on feel and comfort and I was able to find a racquet that pleased me a lot.

What racquet and string do you use? I’m trying some soft strings like pro line evolution and hyper g. What do you like?

Hate to break the news to you but Hyoer G ain't soft.
Sorry my spelling is so bad. Hyper g is an odd string, it doesn’t feel soft but it’s not stiff like rpm blast or max power. It feels kinda spongy, where it feels mushy and you can’t tell. I guess that allows for bigger cuts at the ball, but I was testing it in a soft (62) frame. Gonna try it in my pure aero and maybe an aero + demo and see how it goes.

@Babolat Official ---- Will there be a Tour version of the recently-released Pure Aero VS? If so, do you know when it will be available?

Hi BJG,

I've not heard of any plans regarding a tour version yet. I don't think there will be any additional versions in the VS family until after the Pure Strike VS is released, and I still don't have any information regarding that yet either. I will update everyone here when I know more.
-Josh

please! at like 315 grams and 9 pts HL

Why don't you simply customise the existing model? It is relatively easy to achieve those specs by customising a standard Pure Aero VS.

Babolat never released a Tour version of the 2013 AeroPro Drive. That didn't stop many of us from creating one with customisation. It turned an already decent racquet into an absolute weapon for the right type of player.

Is the colorway that Rafa used for his match yesterday the 2020 Pure Aero Roland Garros edition?

I don't believe Babolat is releasing a Roland Garros edition of the Pure Aero this year because a different racquet company is sponsoring the French Open in 2020.

Rafa was using this PJ earlier in the year. He was training with it in the lead up to Indian Wells just before the Tournament was cancelled.

Who know if it will be released for Retail Sale. Perhaps it will be some sort of PA Special Edition PJ - unlikely to be a Rafa Signature model ... but who knows? We will just have to wait and see.

Perhaps @Babolat Official can enlighten us further.

Ah, thanks. Can @Babolat Official confirm this? I really like that paint job. Is 2021 the next expected update to the Pure Aero?

Hi GLaSnoST9,

I was just able to confirm that we will in fact be releasing this frame, and it is tentatively scheduled to launch in January. We are having a global sales meeting in early October, and should get any updates at that time if for some reason the launch will be delayed.

Thank you Josh! That is exciting news. Will it just be a cosmetic update to the current Pure Aero?

@Babolat Official Hi Josh, do you know if along with that new release of the Pure Aero paint job in January 2021 if there will be a matching 6 racquet bag along with it? I'm looking to get a new bag but can hold out until January if need be.

I don't know for sure, we're going to get more info after our meeting in early October, but I don't think there will be a six pack.

That info is inaccurate. Nadal is using the original AeroPro Drive from 2005

Nadal could be using a range of racquets at Roland Garros.

He might be playing all of his matches with an earlier APD model ... but he could also be using the the racquets mentioned, just not playing matches with them.

Most interesting thing in the Promo Material is the reference to the new PJ stick as the "Pure Aero Rafa" model. I wonder if Babolat is going to release that model with that specific moniker? Because if it does, I believe it will be the first time that a racquet actually has Rafa's name on it. There have been Rafa Signature Tennis Bags but I don't recall any Rafa Signature racquets.

Nadal only uses one racquet when he plays his matches. He doesn’t use a range of racquets. Babolat can say what ever BS they want. Fact is he uses the APD
