CAN CONFIRM CLASH 98 RELEASE IN JUNE

• I have a prototype model of the Clash 98 in my hands. I cannot send pictures due to the threat of getting into trouble with Wilson, but believe me. This model of the Wilson Clash will be released around June; it has the same paint job with minor differences in specs that I will list below. If you need any evidence or liability of information on me you can check out my recent Head Radical leak, All the things I stated are 100% correct in that post and I have posted pictures of all the Radical 360 Models onto my twitter.
  
  Specs and changes from Clash 100
  • Weight: 310 G
  • The beam is .5 mm thinner
  • Same throat design and paint job
  • Flex rating relatively still the same as the 100
  • 98 sq in' head size instead of 100 sq in'
  • 310-320 mm balance (i forgot the exact number)

Yes, basically. I've tried hitting with it and I can say I definitely enjoy it more than the 100 version.

A thinner beam would have been nice, like 22 or 23. So the new one is 24mm all round?
They really should have done a glossy paint job or even the dazzle

how is the string spacing. is it a normal 16x19 pattern or as open as that of the clash 100?

If the only difference is a 2% decrease in headsize, i would advice dont hold your breath. Furthermore 0.5 mm thickness difference nobody ll notice.

Ive tested them side by side, the 98 plays nicer, more control.

after all, Wilson is not just a company that makes good great rackets, they need to make money as well

And the 100 has a bigger target group then the 98. Its a totally new racket so people will buy it and if they like it, a lot will also buy the 98.

yes, but it´s the second time that the pics got deleted.
the only interesting thing that the picture showed is the string spacing, which is relatively dense in the middle and gets progressively wider to the edges of the frame (mains).
the string spacing of the crosses on the other hand is very open (first and last string are very near the edges of the frame).

I suspect there might be a typo there, 320mm is pretty sluggish for 310unstrung toys. Hehe

The 98 sounds like it will be a better fit for my game than the 100, but it would have to be an order of magnitude better for me to consider it.
I’ve given the Clash 100 2 months now and it is easily the worst racket for my game that I have used in the past 5 years, with the exception of outstanding comfort.

That’s said, it may be the perfect fit for someone else. It's comfortable with a full bed of poly and you get easy depth and some free power for slow-medium swing speeds.

This sounds like exactly the racquet I've been looking for, hoping that you are right.

Why are some people saying - I wish the beam was thicker, or the string pattern denser, etc? The whole point of this racquet is to have a thicker beam (and the power it gives you) but with the comfort of a thinner beam. Try doing some homework. As for a 18/20 pattern, why anyone needs such a dense pattern when you have sub fifty flex is a mystery to me. The racquet has great control already due to its flex, you don't need it to play like a board. Even djokovic is going towards a more open pattern.

I'll by 2 of these straight off, can't wait.

I also think the paintjob is pretty good, and much prefer the matte finish on my racquets. Seems to me wilson is getting some things right for a change.

Also much more durable and has a different feel. I much prefer my frames with gloss finishes, velvet also gets really gross in hot humid conditions too

That’s because Wilson quality is garbage! I have 30 plus year old racquets that are glossy without any chips.
