Cheribundi juice used by NFL and NCAA

I have to ask USC players, which one they use before the match

cheribundi™ starts as ripe, tart cherries so tasty, it's hard not to eat them all before they get to the juice presses. We use a proprietary juicing process that was developed with Cornell University to make a drink that retains all the power and benefits of the nutrients and antioxidants found in the little round fruits. cheribundi™ has more disease-fighting antioxidants than other juices and has been tested in the lab and field by athletes and people who just work out. Because cheribundi™ is all-natural and not from concentrate, it's a feel-better and live-healthier addition to your lifestyle.

The irony here is that the process by which we produce energy when we play a sport is oxidation, yet here's another performance product touting how it's loaded with antioxidants. Antioxidants may or may not have value for your health (my own sense is that most don't, since they'd have to not just get into cells but get into the nucleus of cells, where the DNA mutations occur, to be really protective) but it makes little sense to suggest they can enhance athletic performance.

What about those which destroy the harmful free radicals? Is it only for DNA?

Also I like to point out that this was tested and researched in CORNELL university laboratories. I will drink anything they test and approve.

I suspect most of them actually are fairly dumb about nutritional issues, and their zeal for finding an edge makes them pretty gullible. I remember reading some years ago in Newsweek about how a bunch of big-time college football programs were actually putting the players on monoamine oxidase inhibitor antidepressants (MAOI) because they believed it made them more fearless and aggressive on the field. It was all nonsense, and potentially dangerous, yet being done by universities that had an ample supply of biological scientists to consult about it.

I do like to point out that when I drink jamba juice as my pre-match drink, I notice that I play a lot better.

(find some links to some properly done controlled studies published in refereed journals --- I couldn't find any when I searched --- and then we can consider the issue. Your perceptions of what makes you play better is what's known as junk science, at best)

I'm just concerned that all the MLB teams you say use it (and half the NFL teams you cite) are among the worst teams in the league. Sounds like this crap is dragging them down.

Marketing. They offer their supplement line to University and Pro Teams in turn of promoting their products. Whether or not the players actually take them is unknown.

Take Muscle Milk for instance. How many signs across the country do you see that promote this, especially in college.

Promoting >?? No. USC women's team has ordered box and boxes of this stuff to take to Illinois. They believe in this stuff and will help them win the NCAA title.

You sound like it's given you dementia. You start the thread asking "Does this stuff work?" and a few posts later announce that this stuff is the reason UCLA and USC win titles. Does this seem as confused to you as it does to me?

You obviously have not dealt much with Fedace or Nostradamus. The trolling is just brilliant - it is an art form. Innocent-looking questions followed by a quick attack just leaves you wondering what hit you.

There are many things that have antioxidants, why would this be better than others?

No one has shown antioxidants improve athletic performance, there may be some advantages noticed in 10 years but by then the 'touchdown' days would be over.

Sounds like marketing, come out with a new item and then push it.
Link it to athletic programs that probably get it for free and then advertise that.
People assume it improves performance without any other proof.

Result: Company makes money, consumer has less money.

I saw a TV program from the UK where a food industry PR agent was interviewed, and she was very open about the fact that every year the industry needs new superfoods to boost their income. It can be blueberries, pomegranate, whatever. The costlier the better - because the same benefits can be found in many other cheaper fruits and vegetables.

blatent promotion IMO

hmmmmmm....good luck with that. Are you on their street team? I think promoting some whiz bang product is not exactly helpful except to debunk marketing. It's all about $$$ as has been mentioned. You know that Pom Wonderful juice? It's damn good but $5.00 a pop. And it's not going to help my pathetic backhand. Water is free and it will do wonders.

"Superfoods" are to foods generally as supermodels are to models -- they do exactly the same work but cost a whole lot more.

For breakfast this morning I put about a quarter of a bag of Trader Joe's Very Cherry Blend into a mug, added some hot water to thaw it all out, and ate/drank the results. It was really good, and cost under a dollar.

I then went out and lost a tennis match. So my research suggests that cherry juice will not dramatically improve your tennis game.

Trader Joe's frozen berries are great though... I like the little boreal blueberries as well.
