Readers sound off on the top-10 women's players of all time

By Chris Chase

Of the 400 or so emails and comments we received about last week's post ranking the top-10 women's tennis players of all time, there was one thing upon which nearly everyone agreed: The five best women's tennis players of the Open era are, in some order, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, Margaret Court and Billie Jean King. The placement of each of those players on the list was a source of vigorous debate, however.

A majority of readers agreed with Busted Racquet's assertion that Martina Navratilova was the greatest to ever step on the court, thanks to her achievements in both singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Others supported the Sports Illustrated article which claimed Serena Williams was actually the best ever. Some promoted Monica Seles as the GOAT. And a surprising number of folks were wondering where Suzanne Lenglen was. (This was a list of Open-era players only.)
