Comes so freakin naturally to him

In all the pics and slow-mo on the tube of Federer striking the ball. He makes no facial expressions at all. It's comes so damn effortlessly for him, like he's just practicing out there but manages to put all the energy into the ball without any sign of grimace on his face whatsoever. He flows like water while others expend twice as much energy as he does. Crazy.

Pat McEnroe, during a 2003 Federer/Ferrero TMS match, made the following statement: they both play incredibly high-level tennis but achieve it in very different ways. He argued Ferrero's game was the result of incredibly hard work, practise and sheer repetition. Federer's game, on the other hand, is the result of sheer talent and that he was so good he could take a year off, come back, and look like he never missed a thing.

Can't argue with that statement IMO.

I wouldn't argue with it either. I have noticed on all the pics of Federer hitting the ball, he has his head tilted. Federer certainly looks more natural hitting the ball than Ferrero.

I've said this for two and a half years---Federer is the greatest talent and now perhaps the greatest player the game has ever seen. Will he be the greatest in history remains to be seen.

It's a zen thing  Gawd! that man has oodles of talent. It's like he's in the zone most times... let it flow, let it flow...

Let him win Indian Wells, please. Then, let him pull the hardest double and win Miami to make him like automatically #1 no matter what for the year. God, with the talent and game he has, he'll be winning the friggin grand slam.

No doubt. If anybody will win the elusive grand slam it'll be him. He has the best shot out of anybody in the last couple of decades. He's a shoe in for at least two slams a year.

its just the focus that he has, to become a great player in any sport you need focus at such high levels, you have to be aware of everything, be in the present

I think he was brought up on Darwinism. Socrates and Plato are also a couple of his favorite thinkers.

He has no philosophy-wasn't raised on anything in particular-his mind is completely clear of distractions and wooliness.

Personally, I had Federer. I hate watching him. I hate everything about him. Actually, I just hate the fact that he makes everything look so blasted easy. He is a phenom....no doubt.

it's so obvious to anyone watching that federer's game was molded on the teachings of Epictitus and the early Athenia Gnostics.
i will NOT argue with those who mention the influence of Fichte, Schelling, and the other post-Hegelian Idealisten

It took some time after snapping Sampras' Wimbledon streak, but Federer has found his groove. And like Sampras, he does it with what looks like ease. He has what it takes to be the next!

In my opinion Federer is still exploring the range and limits of his talent. He's not even close to his limits IMO.

More gems from the past

Think of the arsenal he added after this post. Imagine if his serve in 04 was as godlike as it has been in this Ljubergerer Era.
