I'm proud to see a person with such class as the 2009 US Open Champion! What a beautiful way to end the 2009 Slam Season! Thank you for a brilliant performance!

Great great comeback.. Hopefully she will continue on and perhaps grab some more slams. I see no reason why she couldnt rack up a few more considering the WTA field today.

Outstanding! No reason she can't win 1-2 slams next year either.

If I was a wagerer, I'd guess that we'll see Henin play in next year's French Open :)

May as well bring all the former champs back.. Lets see Kim wins the AO, Henin RG, Capriati Wimbeldon and ahhh hell... Margaret Court the USO.

Frankly, its nice for Kim to win her 2nd slam. She was far better than the rest of all the one slam wonders with the possible exception of Sabatini

Really classy awards ceremony by both players - not the usual hysterics we see from other players. Really glad Kim added to her career total and hoping Caroline has some majors in store for her in the future.

Yay for Kim!!! I picked her to win it before the tournament started, so mini-yay for me! Nothing can be taken away from her victory either, she had a tough draw....

In the thread in the former pro section we all seemed to agree Kim and Sabatini were head and shoulders above the rest. It wasnt that big a shame Jana won only one slam when she was mostly just a grass/carpet specialist anyway, even though she could have won another Wimbledon. It was a shame Martinez never won the French, but she probably shouldnt have won any slams outside of the French anyway, especialy not a Wimbledon.

In your dreams. People were saying similar things when in the 2004 Wimby Final with Serena vs. Sharapova. Serena will get some payback. Count on it.

Only if she gets back into the shape she was in at the 2004 US Open...the days are over of her waltzing through slams giving no effort to tournaments outside the majors.

I hope that she does get in shape...the Australian is her best slam (if she's not suspended by the Grand Slam committee for her behavior yesterday).

I am so happy for her. She (along with Davenport and Mauresmo) was my favourite and I was so hoping she would make her way back to the court. She appears to be such a nice person, truly warm and empathetic and the other players really respond to her. She is a great role model both on and off the court and I wish nothing but the best for her in the future.

Baby Clijsters is running all around the court aka she's covering the court like Mummy... Someone give me the number of Maguire!

Do not expect repeat performances. At the height of her skill + prime playing age, all she could squeeze out is one slam. Now that she's older, add that to actually facing real slam contenders (unlike her finals opponent) in a slam final, and the results may be quite different.

But not only did she take out Serena in this slam but also Venus, Bartoli, Na, and a hot-playing Wozniacki (even if she is a pusher haha). If she can do that after coming back (and not really thinking too much of it until about 3 months ago), I think she has a few more left to win.

First of all, Clijsters is playing better than she did in 03 -- hitting FH much flatter and its not breaking down in big matches like it did then.

Second, Clijsters problem was always mental -- being a mom has seemed to solve that.

Third, the field isn't anywhere near as strong as it was in 2003. Unless Henin comes out of retirement, Clijsters can easily win 2-3 more majors.

I agree. It is pointless to diminish Clijster's win TV...she is fit, healthy and determined (something a great number of players are not right now).

Congratulations to Kim Clijsters on winning the 2009 edition of the US Open!

This is a well deserve victory and I'm nothing but happy for her!

And best of luck to Caroline Wozniacki. Lack of experience was her foe today (and a very capable and composed Clijsters, too :) ). We should all expect much more from her.

This is a good turnaround in woman's tennis.

Much better than the *shudder* uggh... Serena vs. Jankovic
monstrosity that we had to endure last year

Horray for real tennis returning to the WTA!!! Now if only Henin would come back and Sharapova could get back into form, it will all come full circle.

Kim Clijsters won tonight. She'd won the US Open in 2005 and could not defend her title in 2006 due to a wrist injury. She met (in Europe) a basketball player from New Jersey, they married, she had a baby. After playing an exhibition match at Wimbledon in mid May(in celebration of the new roof) she started training, and three tournaments in, wins the US Open. She was unseeded and required a "wild card" to even get in.This is the first time a Mom has come back to win a Slam in almost 30 years (I might add, she really plays ball).

Yay! That felt great. Come back, get into a major, win it.

A little too easy, in a way wouldn't you say? (meaning the woman's game in general is a little weak). Heck I don't think clijsters could find a tougher route to the finals!

Ahh maybe some others will return! Maybe the woman's game is about to get fixed again.

The wta needs more plays like Clijsters. If someone who took a 2 1/2 break from tennis and came back and won a gs that goes to show how bad the womens side is.

(Please Kim, beg your fellow Belgian Henin to return, that way we can have better finals on the womens side.)

Kim rocks!

^^ & Jada is sooo cute!

Congrats to Kim for her unbelievable comeback! This is so amazing! After giving birth she comes back to teach the field a great tennis lesson! Simply amazing! If Henin would do the same, then WTA matches will become again interesting.

She's a very solid player amongst a very weak field. She could easily win a Slam next year if she's properly motivated to do so. What I hope for most is that her success will inspire Henin to come out of retirement.

thanks...

ps: today i'm very sad with this forum. seems like people only care for gossip, tantrums, rafa's hair cut, serena's showdown, sucking on the teats of Fed's tweener (an good shot but nothig unseen) ... it's a complete depletion of tennis cerebral aspects...
