Stan Wawrinka is essentially leading the team now. I say put him and Federer doubles tomorrow. And maybe then he can win against Monfils on Sunday.

Straight sets!! How does that song go again? "because I'm happy, clap along if you feel like a room without a roof..." Oh yeah baby, clapping like crazy right now.

"How much of that is down to his back injury?"
Mats Wilander "I think NONE!"

Well its common sense that Wilander has something against Federer. With everything he has said about roger through the years you can't say anything else.

Monfils is the man. :p

No, he is a talented joke with some of the most ridiculous disrespectful celebrations to his opponents (there's something on youtube of him celebrating absolutely ridiculously). He also says stuff like how he doesn't care, just wants to have fun.

He's lucky Federer isn't at 100%.

He's the one player who I'll say that about, because yes injury is a part of the game. Probably the least professional top player in terms of work-ethic and attitude, it is outright

Did he drink coke today ? He was gulping it at USO.

Anyways, I am happy for him after the MP loss at USO.

Can't wait till the Wawrinka match. If federer is unhealthy too do something to monfils, then Wawrinka in top form will wipe the floor with him.

The question is, who will have a better chance of winning? Fedrinka in doubles or Fed against Tsonga in singles?

This Federer has no chance against Tsonga. Doubles are different, you don't need your legs that much.

Definitely Fedrinka at doubles have a much better chance than the other way.

Clement chose right with Monfils. He was the consistent one today even while hitting huge.

Gasquet is great at doubles --he's a grand slam champion in mixed.

Bring on Stan & Fed in dubs. We are ready!

Look here.. Scared of a 33 year old crossing your idol ? :):)

Take it easy . Unless Novak stinks up big time next year, he is safe from *******.

Just doing some calculations. I believe this loss guarantees Djoker's #1 ranking until after the AO. In the AO, Fed can gain at most 1640 points on Djoker if he wins and Novak doesn't play at all. So even with the 75 points here it wouldn't be enough to pass Novak.

Damn Monfils was playing well. Not sure Federer was moving that well but he'd have had to be on top form to beat Gael playing like that. At least it was quick

One more day won't make any difference to Federer. He won't damage Tsonga, he couldn't move today.

He can make much more damage in a doubles match than in a singles math atm.

Chiudinelli can play doubles, he would have been practicing for this for ages, why risk rogers back in a tie you are the underdog in?

Rumours say the doubles will be Tsonga-Gasquet vs Fed-Stan

Interesting choice for doubles if it's Tsonga-Gasquet. I think Gasquet-Benneteau, on paper, are a better doubles team that Tsonga-Gasquet. They do have an Olympic bronze medal. Outside of the Wawrinkwa-Federer, those two should be the best team.

However, based on Tsonga-Gasquets performance against the supposedly unstoppable Berdych-Stepanek, it may be wise to play them as I do think that pairing has a huge potential for damage.

I don't think Fedrinka would be the underdogs if they play. I'm pretty sure this limited Federer can really do his thing on a doubles match.

I just read Tsonga was complaining about the crowd...heard more cheers from the Swiss for Fed/Waw than from the French for Clownfils/Tsonga, then also complained about Swiss fans boo-ing him checking a mark (yes, probably uncalled for, but it is DC).

Didn't realize Tsonga was also that mentally weak and whiny.

Do you guys think Federer is too hurt/rusty/bad to play doubles right now? It is definitely less of a strain, and he is clearly not completely hobbled, just moving slightly worse.

I cannot believe that.

Not typical of Fed to go into panic mode.

It is pretty clear that it is a gamble now and they just need to pick their best bet. Fedrinka's chances in doubles is several times higher than Fed's chances against Tsonga at this point (though Fedrinka aren't a great team in doubles of late)

Anyway, looks like this DC will be a near miss again for Fed like everything else this year.......

What amazes me is Nadal fans like vero cheering Monfils. If they actually like Nadal for his "warrior" aspects and hard work-ethic, they ought to despite Monfils for the opposite.

OTOH, if they like Nadal for his time-wasting, cheating, over-the-top celebrations, then it's natural they'd like Monfils more, as he's far worse in every category.
