swiss might keep Federer for Saturday doubles and hope the score after Fridays singles is 1-1.

that'll be a week since his injury..if he can't play that he prob won't play sunday singles either.

The two main Swiss players have their own handicaps going into this Davis Cup final. If the French players play their consistent game, they ought to win. With so much on the line, I feel like they would be less likely to mess around.

hmmm.. no Federer to be seen there then..

and looks like a football style stadium they built just for the final  27'000 I think..yikes.

It is indeed a football stadium, Stade Pierre-Mauroy. They have just adapted it for tennis for this occasion, but the stadium itself wasn't built for this.

Wow, this final just got really unpredictable.. So many possible scenarios, depending on if and when Federer gets fit to play. One would think that the French are the favorites now, but interestingly enough the oddsmakers still hold Switzerland as slight favorites.

This is Wednsday and Stan and Lammer just went to practice about 20 minutes ago and Federer is no where to be seen. BAD sign.

Some guy just tweeted: Federer's current practice session is the biggest disaster for France since Napoleon lost the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

Lol!!!

Since Fed will not be fit to play, Stan will be SUI's one man army. Stan will win his first singles. Robbie Federer will be sent to play the second match vs Tsonga and it is now 1-1.

Next, Stan will partner with Lammer and bring down the hammer on the Frenchies in a 5 set doubles match. Tsonga will then beat Chiudinelli 1,0,1.

Stan will take on Monfils in the deciding rubber. Serving at 5-4 , 40-15 in the fifth , Stan will choke away 4 match points because one of Federer's daughters has a mini-meltdown in the SUI box distracting Stan. Stan barks at her to shut up and breaks a racquet and gets broken.

Back on serve and 40-0 Monfils when you hear the fat lady singing (from the SUI box) and Monfils is mesmerized and is overtaken by a desire to do acrobatics at every point and promptly gets broken. Stan then serves out the match in the next game , wins DC and dedicates the victory to the said lady.

You heard it here first.

Yeah, that's why. He was really serious as he was really feeling pain. I'm pretty sure he will play, but don't see him winning any matches in that condition.

Besides, playing Monfils is always stressful.

Yes, he looked pretty tentative, perhaps he may decide to play only one match. But in my opinion there is no point in risking further injury if he is not match ready. At the end of the day athletes have to look after themselves, but sadly for the Swiss, it's advantage France. Unless as Tennis addict says Wawrinka wins three matches. Now that will be funny.

Overall, it's a rather strange and unfortunate turn of events for Federer and the Swiss Team.

If the French players emphasize long points to tire out Federer over a best-of-five set match, they should be able to win their matches against him.

Not sure he will hold his nerves in front of a passionate 27,000 French crowd...??

May be that crowd and last week's loss will be the inspiration he needs.

I can easily see him win his singles, more so , if Fed does not play. It is the doubles that will be the key.

So excited for this final! Hope Roger is healthy and ready to go as well as the rest of the athletes. I really hope the Swiss win. However, I like all the players on the french team as well especially, Tsonga and Gasquet. Monfils is insanely talented and if he is in the zone probably only peak Stan can beat him in that form this year.

That being said, come on Roger and Stan!!!

Good news, NO pain

HE took the court!

Unable to practise since his arrival in Lille on monday, Roger Federer finally had a light 30 minutes training tonight at Pierre-Mauroy stadium. "It went well. Roger had no pain" said the swiss captain Severin Lüthi. — at (Photo: EPA/MAXPPP).
