The WTF will have the answer. If Alcaraz doesn't win the WTF, then it's Djoker. The WTF is a very big deal. If Alcaraz wins the WTF, then he takes it, due to a much better overall record so far and a 6-4 edge in overall titles.

Alcaraz has zero chance against Sinner indoors
Alcaraz may not even be in sinners half. It can possibly be Nole sinner and Zverev or tsitsipas in one half. Then chances are sinner doesn't even break out of the Round Robbin.

Alcaraz doesn't have to worry about facing Nole at least in RR. He can lose to sinner and still win ATP finals.

Sinner has won 2 out of his last 4 tournaments. Sinner is going to break through next year. I bet he wins Vienna next week

Let's focus on alcaraz. As shown above even if sinner beats alcaraz it doesn't mean Raz can't win atp finals. Nole lost a match in 2008 to Roger I think. It won't matter.

You realize this is sinners best surface right?

@dking68 let's make Djokovic 2009 vs sinner 2023 thread separately :)
So far they won 3 titles at this point, Djokovic made 8 finals but Sinner made 5 finals at this point. Sinner was Toronto champion, Nole was mastersless at this point. Djokovic then won Basel and Paris masters. I want to see if Sinner can win Vienna, Paris and atp finals

Djokovic was a bit better. Aside from the AO could have won RG without Nadal and USO without Federer, at least one of the two. He did poor at Wimbledon but that was against a Safin rolling back the years, the draw was bad luck. Alcaraz didn't play the AO and lost to Medvedev who is a top HCer, but not Big 3 caliber. In the second half Djokovic declined but Alcaraz seems to have declined even more, depends on how this go in the last few tournaments really.

2008 was Olympic year. Djokovic failed to win that as well. Does that change the conversation?
Let's see H2H vs rivals as well.

There is a chance Medvedev overtakes raz in rankings still. Especially if Raz is injured. 1500 pts behind Raz.

Medvedev has won Bercy and ATP finals before. Raz is injured.
This won’t happen. Sinner won’t allow him to do that. He will lose to Sinner indoors if he recently lost to him outdoors in straights. Sinner loves indoor HC

It’s not all about the number of titles, one must also consider the competition faced. Djokovic takes this.
True but competition argument can go out of hand pretty quickly. We have to always be vigilant. Alcaraz is beating players who are a few years into their prime already. And he is not just scraping by, he is dominating them. Zverev Tsitsipas Medvedev Berrettini etc. His semis at Wimbledon was like an insult to Medvedev's game. 3/3/3

Djokovic was better against tougher competition.
1. In the slams they won, Djokovic beat prime Federer in straights while Alcaraz struggled to beat old Djokovic.
2. Djokovic lost to monster Rafa on clay while Alcaraz lost to old Djokovic.
3. Djokovic lost to 4 time defending champ Fed at USO while Alcaraz lost to Medvedev.

2007-2009 Djokovic was frankly very underrated. Put him in Alcaraz's place, and he dominates.

2008 was a very strong year. I agree.

I’d go with 2008 Djokovic here. Achievements aren’t much different but Djokovic performed at a higher level in a stronger year of competition.

Djoko at prime/peak Fed to deal with on hard courts and peak Nadal on clay. Djoko was not as good on grass that year so Alcaraz obviously ahead for grass. However, for hard courts and clay I’d take 2008 Djoko over 2023 alcaraz

The correct comparison would be 2007 vs 2023.

But knowing our retro aficionados, Djoko 2007 would also be granted a CYGS and golden masters in 2023.

Go-to parroting 2007 - 2008 Djoko lost to only Fedal at slams, anyone? Fact of the matter is everyone he beat in 2008 RG, W or USO would be more than manageable to 2023 Djoko as well. And his masters campaign was very average tbh.

Not that Alcaraz is better or anything, he would lose the same matches to Fedal, 2008 Djoko lost. Djoko's advantage may be at AO and IW, and that's about it.

AO - 10-0 Djokovic
RG - 6-4 Djokovic
Wim - 8-2 Alcaraz
USO - 6-4 Djokovic

This seems about how it could go.

I get cramps

Suppose I squeeze my brain through constant eyebrow wagging and try to visualize a notable difference between the two 20-year-old tennis players. In that case, although I must say that my dementia tells me that Monsieur Djokovic was born in May 1987, Mnemosyne sings to me that the malleable Belgradian played one more grand slam in 2008 than the Murcian did in 2023.

I already feel the prodromes of Alzheimer's and forget I am not even on a chair, a wheelchair, a couch, or standing as I write this, but didn't the Murcian count 19 years like nineteen suns until May 2023?
