Both Djokovic and Nadal were YE #1 during these seasons.

Who had the better season though?

Nadal won 2 slams and 5 Masters in 2013. Djokovic won 1 slam, 3 Masters, and the WTF (but also made more finals than Nadal in 2013).

Nadal's...the WTF makes up for the 2 extra masters Nadal has but the extra slam is too much...

He had a tougher competition at the AO, that's for sure. :)

And at Wimbledon, at the FO Nadal in 2012 was much better. His USO run was probably about equal. He also had to face off against a strong Federer in the WTF aswell.

So yeah 2012 was tougher.

Djoko lost to Andy Murray at the US Open in 2012 and to Rafa this year.
So, Andy is a tougher opponent to Djoko than Djoko to Rafa ?

I was talking overall. I called the USO runs equal, Djokovic went through Del Potro and Ferrer before falling to Murray. In 2013 he went through Youzhny and Wawrinka, I think 2012 was a tougher draw.

Overall the competition was higher in 2012.

Ferrer is considered a clay-courter. And why do you compare Djoko's years?

You might want to ignore my poasts, no? You and Hitman, and all other reasonable Djokovic fans. :)

Why would I want to ignore your posts? I like you and find you entertaining. I think you misunderstood my post- I was actually paying you a compliment. It's miserable and dreary where I live but you sure bring a smile to my face.:)

Ferrer is not considered a claycourter. Djokovic clearly had a tough draw.

Ah, OK. Thank you for your kind appreciation, but take my poasts with a grain of salt. :)

Look forward to some more awesome threads soon.

Anybody seen Chico and 5555, by the way? LMFAO

Ferrer is a claycourter :) Just look at this:

AO 72%, RG 74%, Wim 69%, US open 71% - win/loss percentage

AO SF 2011, 2013, QF 2008, 2012

RG F 2013, SF 2012, QF 2005, 2008

Wim QF 2012, 2013

US open SF 2007, 2012, QF 2013

It's clear that his best slam results have been at the French open :)

Titles and finals: Clay 10 - 14 (24), Hard 8 - 8 (16), Grass 2 - 0 (2)

Surface win/loss percentage:

Clay 259 - 104 (71%), Hard 242 - 136 (64%), Grass 38 - 16 (70%), Carpet 9 - 11 (45%)

Clay is Ferrer's best surface,it's just that he's had considerable success on other surfaces as well.

Actually,he is the best claycourter of this generation behind Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.

The competition on hardcourts is a lot better than it is on clay. His results aren't so drastic that he could be classified as a claycourter. Coria was a better claycourt player than Ferrer as well...

The competition on hardcourts is "better" because hardcourts are easier than clay/grass to play on, and hardcourt courts abound. It's more difficult to excel in grass or clay, but if you do there is less competition.

I see Nole 2012 is strikingly similar to 2013 in achievements so most people will say Nadal 2013 is still better. However some Nole fans believe Nole 2013 is better than Nadal so expect them to believe 2012 is also better.

Your point is irrelevent my friend. The reasons for why there is more competition or less competition aren't what I'm discussing. The point is there are more dangerous players on hardcourts than there are on clay. Ferrer is therefore more likely to suffer defeat and have a lower win percentage on hards.

Ferrer has been classified as a claycourter long ago. Only you are arguing, because you desperately want to convince people that Djoko had tough opponents in 2012.

Nadal 2013: 75-7 W/L, 10 titles - 2 Slams

Djokovic 2012: 75-12 W/L, 6 titles - 1 Slam + 2 Slam finals

You decide.

Would you classify Nadal as a claycourter?

That is not the same. Nadal has proven himself on all surfaces by winning the biggest titles on clay, hard and grass: slams, masters, olympic gold etc.etc.

He has defeated all his biggest rivals mainly Federer, Djokovic and Murray across all 3 surfaces and all the biggest venues.

How can you compare that to Ferrer who isn't competitive against any of the big 4 on hard on the biggest stages and when it matters the most?

Let me put it this way: Do you believe Ferrer has greater chances of pulling off an upset against the big 4 on hard or clay?

It's exactly the same. Infact the disparity in their results on clay and hard is greater for Nadal! The fact that Ferrer is a much weaker player is irrelevent. He's not a claycourter, his level on hardcourts and his results there are atleast close to those on clay. He doesn't have a special surface.

The only big title Ferrer has won was on hardcourts let me remind you. Ferrer has upset Nadal twice on hardcourts in the slams and I'd give him a slim chance against Murray. Ferrer could upset Murray on clay and has done but that's more to do with Murray's lack of ability on the surface than Ferrer's strength.

Ferrer is a pushover for the top guys anyway, except for clay mug Murray on clay only. Who cares what he is. He is nothing. Del Potro, Tsonga, and even Berdych are atleast dangerous and thus tougher opponents than him, regardless of ranking or other stats.

IFerrer has upset Nadal twice on hardcourts in the slams

Ferrer defeated Rafa:
2007 US Open - Rafa injured his left knee during a practice session the day before the tournament began and considered withdrawing.
2011 Australian Open - Rafa got injured (hamstrings area) in the beginning of the match, but he didn't want to retire

I think the 2007 U.S Open win was very legit (yes Nadal was injured, but lets face it, he is injured in some way 60% of the time unfortunately, and he was clearly outplayed that day). However the 2011 Australian Open match might as well have been a walkover, Nadal was barely walking around court.

I dont think Ferrer is capable of beating Nadal or Djokovic in a slam period, barring something unforseen (a major injury to either one). He can beat Murray at Roland Garros, but anyone in the top 25 who is a good clay courter can on a given day too.
