Djokovic Calls Vienna 'One Of The Hardest ATP 500s We Have Ever Seen'

Yeah, it's hard when you accidentally blurt out that you tanked and you need to cover it up with giving credence to a tournament that is practically like any other hard court tournament draw to divert attention.

“You have six out of the Top 10 players playing here at an ATP 500 event,” Djokovic said. “I think this must be if not the hardest or toughest men’s draw of all-time at a 500-category event, then definitely one of the hardest ones that we have ever seen, that I was ever part of. So the quality of matches from the first round will be very, very high.”

Yeah, Djoker looked like he was trying to win that one. Fed loss seemed a bit suspicious...like Robredo and Millman losses at USO. Could be wrong but Robredo was just too suspicious for me. Delpo loss maybe not because Fed did find confidence vs Rafa that year.

what is your opinion about the match with Sonego?
did Novak tank to avoid someone?

He didn't tank but he didn't care either...he did not give it his best effort as he would in a slam.

He cared to ask for a WC and come to play that tourney, so that is not it.

BTW, apart from the "slam" part your words are the very definition of tanking: he didn't care > he played badly on purpose.

Well it looked like he didn't have a will to fight while being outplayed like for example at AO final or French semi vs Thiem where he was outplayed but still dug deep to get victory in 1 and come short in the other. This match he was outplayed but didn't really have a drive or will to win as much as he would probably have if it was a bigger tournament

I agree. Kyrgios's Acapulco title should also be converted to an M1000 ranking.

He deserves an honorary slam for that run

He got smashed by a LL and a clay court specialist, so who are you kidding? Even you don't believe in the words you wrote.

He wasn't outplayed, he wasn't chasing simple balls.
That is tanking.
