Just today, we finished the final slam on tour! You know what that means! The final stretch is upon us!

Up until now, these two have assembled the most points on tour. But let's be kind and include the USO finalist as well.

Race to TurinLikely points left to play
Djokovic89453500
Alcaraz81754000
Medvedev65904250 (if #1 seems in reach)

There are 4 weeks of 250s left, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Vienna/Basel, Paris, then the ATP Finals.
Chengdu/Zhuhai250
Astana250
Beijing500
Shanghai1000
Tokyo500
Stockholm/Antwerp250
Vienna/Basel500
Paris1000
Metz/Tel Aviv250
ATP Finals1500

Djokovic is unlikely to play anything except the 1000+ level tournaments, so 3500. Alcaraz is likely to play 1 of the 3 remaining 500s, and I could see Medvedev playing his heart out to be YE#1 if he had the chance in his grasp (something like Metz/Tel Aviv right before the ATP Finals).

It's difficult to project anything into the future, but if my assumption that Alcaraz plays a 500 and Djokovic doesn't, the Race should really come down to whomever plays better in this part of the season. A large point total of that will be accumulated in the ATP Finals. I'll keep this thread up to date from tournament to tournament to see how it's shaping up - let's hope it's an interesting race!

Djokovic should get the YE #1 this year. Will probably require him to win one more big title and one deep run in any other + few points in ATP finals etc.

I see him winning either one of Paris / Shanghai.

Not so sure about ATP finals.

A 4 slam finalist and 3 slam winner not being YE#1 would be a shame

I think Ivanisevic said Djoko may not go to China this year.
Has he. Well he deserves his break.

What do you do when so much history is on the line.

He can break the record of YE#1s this year. Also if he doesn’t get YE#1, mostly Alcaraz gets it - and will have 2 YE#1s at such a young age and will be in pole position to break this record during his career

He shouldn't gift an YE#1. He already did that in 2016. If he's not playing in Asia then vulture the necessary points in Europe. He probably won't get 1500 points playing WTF.

Novak will not play in Beijing, while Carlos will play it alonside Basel. I still think Carlos is the favorite to get YEN1.

Djokovic is much better indoors so I expect him to capture the YE#1.

Well to be honest he don't give it away just Murray break his body to earned it.5 consecutive titles post US Open without loosing a match.

Djokovic is ahead with 770 points.
Alcaraz is on the entry list of China Open [ATP 500] and Basel [ATP500]

Djokovic has to do as much as Alcaraz, or better, at Shanghai, Paris and ATP Finals combined.

Its meaningless now. Djokoviv 3-1 Alcaraz this season. Thats all that matters.

I want Djokovic to stop the kid's momentum now. It's enough. The kid is celebrated while our guy is reigning the sport. The history should forever remember Nole, not the kid, to be the GOAT. Yes. Play 500s in Europe.

What happens if alcaraz beats him lets say at bercy shanghai and yec? Does it really matter?

No. Only thing that matters in 2023 for Nole is holding YE number 1 now. Nole shouldn't bother keeping H2H at every single small tournament. He is 36.
Does ye1 even matter now? Alcaraz has moee chance to get 30 majora than break novak ye1 recors as alcaraz i sense will be like nadal and tend to peak for majors then have time off tour once he ia older in mid 20s. Hard to get ye1 doing that

Alcaraz at 20 has 35 weeks already. I think he has great start.

Jesus, he’s gonna exhaust himself before the WTF.

I suspect Djoker will be tired an uninterested and won't do very well for the rest of the season, he already accomplished what matters the most. Raz will be hungrier because of his recent failures.

I seriously doubt Carlos will play Basel.
Most probably he'll play China tournaments, collect 1000+ points, covering the 770 deficit and gaining some advantage in the race.
Then, it's all about Bercy and YEC, where they'll both fight for YEno1.

Djoko should play Europe just to not get rusty, plus sole record holder at WTF is a worthwile goal too.

Alcaraz is not gonna sweep with that schedule
Alcaraz will not like you said. We haven't seen him play amazing post USOpen yet. And we may not see this year as well.

This is going to be tight, my focus has quickly shifted to this now, with the slam season finished.

It could be decided at the YEC I think. Novak probably knows this is his last reign as world number one and his last chance for a final year ending number one. I am certain he is going to push for it, but Alcaraz wants that ranking back asap and I know he is going to fight tooth and nail to lock it in.

Well, he didn't gift 2016. He was running on fumes, and Andy played his butt off, including defeating him H2H in the ATP Finals (finals).
I really don't know how much YE#1 - and/or a possible additional ATP Finals trophy - means to him.
He's goal-oriented, for sure, but just don't know how much these are worth compared to being more rested for 2024.

We should consider Medvedev in the equation also. It seems he has Carlos figured out and had gained confidence after the USO beating…

If I were Alcaraz, I probably don't have strong motivation to make any effort to finish YE#1.
I would know Novak is #1 this year.

Tennis channel discussed this as golden opportunity for Alcaraz to win 6 in a row ye. But they also said if he lost it this year it would be very difficult and pretty much impossible. Let's see. I want Nole to stop him.v

He made it clear slams and Olympics are the only things he cares about now. Being #1 or ending the year as #1 is not on his priority list, I think.

He actually said that his season ends with DC, the job is pretty much done and everything else is just a bonus.
