Djokovic wasn't injured

The way he could have gotten out of ridicule would have been to retire when he got his match point against Troicki, and let his Davis Cup teammate try and defeat Tsonga. It wouldn't have affected his prize money, and it would have given Troicki more money and points and the opportunity to go further. I assume he thought he might have been able to play Tsonga, but it must have been a small chance, if he lets Troicki go through in this manner, it's obvious he was going to win, yet knew he couldn't continue and in my book doing the right thing, and making it hard for people to say he used his injury as an excuse for a loss.

No he would have been ridiculed. People would say "he couldn't even play one more point? He just lost whilst saying "I could win if I wanted to, I have a match point, but i'm quitting" He's just losing but in a way he looks like he threw the match so can't be beaten fair and square!"

Don't you see how people would spin it?

Haters will hate, no matter what Novak does. Who cares? But I must say I hope he stops the bleeding ASAP. It's very annoying for spectators to have players retiring in the middle of events. I was really looking forward to the Tsonga match today. I saw it as the highlight of the quarters (along with the Murray-Berd match). Those last minute withdrawals are a bummer. :(

Juvenile and overused to the max. If anything he has been given a ton of slack about his nonexistent injuries, and it's time for him to have to answer for his poor sportmanship.

Why are you so sure that his injuries are non-existant? Do you really think he's going to turn around in 1 week and win WTF? Or do you think he'll do another walkover?

I just do not buy his supposed injuries. He does this sort of rope-a-doping constantly.

And I absolutley do believe he will win the WTF despite his bum shoulder,side,back,abdominal,infinity... He supposedly had a shoulder injury in Cinci, retired in the final like a chump and then won the USO. What makes you think he's not playing possum again and will wind up doing the same thing at the WTF?

Well, quite frankly, if that's true, I think it's horrible PR. It's not going to win him a lot of fans to think he only plays when he thinks he can win. Playing possum, if that's what he's doing will make folks think he's a poor sport. He already has the worst history of retirements of the top players.

I don't blame him for not turning his nose down at the 1.6M, despite the fact that he has been commenting about it, where he knows folks are saying that's the only reason why he was playing. Only a fool would think otherwise.

Perhaps Djokovic should be executed? Clearly he needs to be removed from the game by any means necessary. Unsportsmanlike behaviour is contagious.

But you buy all of Nadal's. Geez, everyone gets injured sometimes, Nadal, Djokovic even Federer. You said on another thread Nadal is injured, if he wins London will you admit he was faking?

Also Djokovic had a week off after Cinci to rest his shoulder. And slams give you days off between matches which allow you some rest. Personally I think he retired just to save the shoulder any possible damage, could have played on yes, but I don't really blame him, the US open was on the line. Murray's good enough to beat him injury or no injury so I'm not going to be like a Nadal fanboy and claim he only lost because of injury- I don't think any player is really that good to make that claim, well at least not against someone as good as Murray. Having said that I really thought Nadal must have been injured to have lost a set 6-0 to Murray, but apparently that time he wasn't.

Clarky21 is such a crybaby about injuries. Most hard-working athletes are carrying niggling injuries.....big deal....they mean nothing if they don't stop you from making grand slam finals.....

I bet Clarky21 is crying right now over his own broken nail or something pathetic like that.

The reality is that both Djokovic and Nadal are drama queens with regards to their health. Djokovic's record shows more drama in regard to tournaments, but not by much. When Nadal stops he normally stops for a large gap unlike Djokovic has been shown this year. Does that mean much in the scheme of things, I doubt it, but it's not pretty to play on and off in consecutive tournaments.

Maybe Nadal is hurt as well as Djokovic, it seems this year hasn't been good for top players..... Shoot, the WTF is starting to look like a "survivor" game instead of a playoff between the top players. This could be the worst WTF in years. Novak is hurt, Nadal could be hurt, Murray seems to have issues, and Fed is clearly rusty to be pushed by Monaco.

Berdych is coming back, Tsonga is hot and cold, but plays like an energizer bunny.... Ferrer seems hurt as well. He's not up to his par, losing to Monaco..... Fish is damaged goods at this point.

The whole WTF looks to be a sad pitiful tournament to me this year.

Yeah I agree. Really I just think people need to to stop blaming every loss by a top player on an injury or making out that you are either 100% or at death's door.

About the WTF, I really hope Djokovic, Fish, Nadal and whoever else can get fit in the week ahead and at least the alternating days of play might help a bit rather than playing 5 days in a row. Federer is ok, he just needs matches. The other guys need time off, I hope it's enough for a good tournament as I hope to catch a match or two live.

Well if you're actually going to be there, then I certainly hope you get some good matches. I'll be seeing it online with just the scores when it's not on the tennischannel, and only as I'm getting ready to go to work. Given that it's supposed to be the best of the best, I would hope to see awesome stuff, but at this point, I have very low expectations for almost all players.

Thanks. Yeah it's a bit of a shame, I thought last year was quite good. I live in London and not that far by train from the O2, I can be there in under half an hour. I saw one match last year (Federer vs Ferrer) thought I'd see Federer before he was past his best. Wanted to see Nadal vs Djokovic as well but I was busy that day, but in retrospect it didn't finish very well anyway, but I'm still hoping to see both Djokovic and Nadal live, will probably have to be seperate matches now, because I don't forsee me seeing a semi or final, more likely group matches for me.

Well at least you're only a metro away instead of a flight and hotel to see the matches. I hope it's better than I'm thinking it's going to be.

my theory is that djokovic played the troicki match just becouse it would be suspicious to pull out after the first match which was required to cash the million. as related to the serve, i dont see major issues with the effectiveness, he still gets cheap points after the first serve & also all other shots are looking as they are not affected... to me he looks not quite interested or able to keep the concentration.
his actions the last two tournaments (+ cincinnati) are more more in the style of old novak (or maybe he never changed).
however, if he suddenly somehow his shoulder magically will heal for the wtf (as it did for the us open) then this puts a BIG question mark on his credibility.

Yeah but his shoulder complaints became much more serious after the US Open final, I think Nadal broke the camel's back. Either way, it couldn't happen to a nicer douch3.

If this guy was actually injured, he would have retired in that third set. Were talking about the clown who retires in a masters final and a Davis Cup semifinal when he's only down a set. What would keep him from retiring from a 500 event? You Djoko lovers and sugar coat this 1st class annihilation all you want, but the truth is your hero is past his brief prime.

At least Novak is showing up. Errr...where's Rafa by the way?

You've also been talking about the demise of Nadal, and the supremency of Novak. Pick a side and stick with it. Novak looks quite weak at this point, and looks like he'll be easy pickings for WTF folks. Or are you saying this is a total sham, and that Novak will rise like the phoenix in 2 weeks?
he rises
