Does Djokovic match his triple career slam with a triple career golden masters if he wins Cincinnati?

He is missing 1 Cincinnati and 1 Monte Carlo title to do it.

Personally, I don't see it happening anymore. He can potentially win Cincinnati again, but Monte Carlo has become the worst tournament to play in for many years now for a variety of reason. Also, I don't think he cares as much about these masters anymore, it is about slams for him, he has put in some half baked performances in them in recent years and uses them more match practise and warm ups. That said, maybe he might change his view especially if he wins Cincy again.

I give him a very small outside shot at doing it, but highly unlikely it will happen.

If he does win, what do you think? Can he do it?

So there are two ifs here. And I don't talk in hypotheticals..

Yes and no.

The question is, if he wins one, in this case Cincinnati, does he change his attitude for the other and really go for it, compared to how he has phoned in some of his performances at Masters over the past few years.

I would like to see him win Cincy one more time although I'm not confident he'll succeed. In my opinion, Novak will put emphasis on USO. But if he does, than there's a chance for triple CGM at MC, which if completed, will be even bigger accomplishment than triple CGS, at least in my eyes. It's an extremely difficult feat, no one else have it, even once...

Too early to think about it, imo. Novak didn't win 3th MC and who knows for how long he will play Monte Carlo. He is at tail end of his magnificent career. Goals are now GS and maybe 400 weeks at No1. , if he wins Masters great but he will not overextend himself there

2024 I don't think he will want to overplay on clay before RG+OG t'nt combo. Maybe Rome and that's it.
In any case Double Golden (love how fedal fans are irritated by ATP naming it , btw :D) career Masters is such magnificent, unique achievement, testament to Novak all round /surfaces/whole season/s greatest versatility& consistency. I highly doubt it will be matched /surpased anytime soon

You make a very valid point here, I didn't think about this.

You speak about this coming event, or just him in general for the rest of his playing career?
Either here or in a future year. I actually think late career Djoko’s game is better for Cincy than ever, (he was obviously always good here), he can use the speed and lower bounce to his advantage.

IMO Djokovic was always good in Cincinnati, he just ran into Federer too many times there, otherwise could have had three or four title already.

But I do consider fast courts ideal for his game the more he ages, which is funny since he won RG and lost W.

He doesn't really need to do it a third time given 2 times has already set the record for a long time to come (if ever). The CYGS and an Olympic gold medal (preferably single) are the only goals left for him to pursue now.

I would be extremely surprised if he ever won Monte Carlo again; I would (obviously) not be surprised if he won Cincinnati this year.

He still can try to get the outright record at YEC though. Currently, he holds the outright record for slams and masters, but shares that one.

He's still got two titles that take up that 7th slot no matter which way you cut it.
Yeah, the “but he didn’t win the real Cincy“ argument is so ridiculous. Masters change every so often location, even surface. yet we still compare records across time. Novak won a Bo3 tournament with all rules and requirements of any other masters. Just held in a different venue. And as I recall the surface at Cincy was (is?) very similar (or the same?) to that of the USO.

Federer won one of his Miami titles in a parking lot instead of Key Biscayne, on courts that play completely differently , but lets not mention that, because that sort of stuff only applies to Djokovic. 8-B

And yes, the surfaces are closer now between the two venues in Cincy and USO.

Don't think so...He will play MC but I don't see it happening for a few reasons...He last time reached final and won it in 2015...

Cant see him even going all out in Cincy. So if theres strong resistance in matches, i believe he wont really kill himself to try and win it.

All about getting in peak condition for the open.

Although if he were to meet Carlos in Cinci, it might be a different story, regards his motivation.

Not happening. 2 cycles of masters is already unreal
A triple career Masters set would be incredible, but it's a record that wouldn't resonate much as the years go on. It's a tremendous achievement, but obviously slams and weeks at #1 are the two big deals on any tennis resume. I don't think he has much of a chance to do it and I doubt he cares. He has the important records, winning another Cincy or MC is utterly meaningless in the scheme of things.

Still trying to figure out the "golden" part of winning all the masters? Is it the YEC? But, didn't that used to be called "Super" or something?

Great marketing ATP...
Ruins:love:
Imagine being upset over tennis gov body naming achievement Golden . Achievement is so special that ATP felt the need to emphasize it naming it Golden. Boo hoo!
No it's not YEC since 9 Masters were named 1999 by ATP as Super 9. YEC is separate category

Exactly how I see it. Don’t see him doing it and he doesn’t really need it at this point. All he cares about is slams now until he retires.

fed misses MC and rome for 1 GM and 2 of each + paris for 2 GM.
rafa misses miami and paris for 1 GM and 2 of each + cinci and shanghai for 2 GM.

the question is if nole is closer to his 3rd GM than rafa his first?

It could be said that way .Nadal would have never won Paris indoors.
