Coric was totally gassed from his previous three-setters. I'm not making excuses for him, but he wasn't 100% tonight.

The same Coric who would have battled through Fed if Fed was slightly below his decent level?

Coric has played many back to back 3 setters before as well when he battled Fed in good 3 sets at IW last year.

Actually one of the worst Corics performances ever. Must be tiredness or something. Nothing to do with Federer.
Roger was on a recieving end of a bye today.
Coric was the yo-yo on the end of fedr’s string today, drop shot after drop shot, penetrating serve after serve.

Frankly, your fedr hate is so predictable; almost as predictable as a sweaty towel off time violation after being aced.

He wasn't moving like his usual self. That's why the Fed's DS tactics was so successful today.

Tiredness should have been the reason if Fed lost today after his 3 setters and not a valid reason for a 22 yr old kid.

Coric played only 1 set extra compared to Fed in the entire tournament. Lame excuse this tiredness is.

This clearly isn't the place for me to get an idea of matches I have yet to watch... Watching the highlights I saw nothing to get excited about other than drop shots and Fed's ability to get returns in the court; Coric was awful. I'll take Fed's inside out forehands from the previous match plez.

Fed’s age advantage over Coric wasn’t fair today. If they play again this year, Federer will be required to wear 10 lb ankle weights to equalize his age advantage.

Tsitsipas should be given 3 serves tomorrow. He deserves a 2nd chance at a first serve bomb, given his age disadvantage and the fact that he couldn’t put away Monfils in two sets.

Monte-Carlo is the most prestigious clay masters. I’d sooner take out Madrid or Rome.
Compromise: we take out all of them?

unless they make Madrid blue clay again, then it can stay

I'm watching a replay now. I'm speechless. Federer's shot makings are out of this universe. He uses every part of the court and delivers magic killer shots everywhere.

Edit: dang not that serve and netted volley though.

Edit: Coric's volley is diabolical.

Talking like someone I know you are. Unusual it would be, if Yoda here is! :D

A minus with Federer:
I was preparing a lasagne while the match was played. My Mac behind me on the island. And every time the commentator went bananas, I turned around for a replay, and the old geezer was already preparing for his next serve. Partypooperer!
Ya gotta record Grandpa! He'll serve a love game before you can make a quick stop to pee, and if you have prostate problems, you'll miss the whole match. :D

Coric already admitted he was tired in his post-match presser today. Your analogy to IW last year is also not accurate. Coric played three straight three-set matches in Dubai which all ended in TB's. His match against Basil last night ended at 1:30 am and lasted three hours. None of that happened in IW in 2018. He played two two-setters before Fed and had bagel matches against Young and Ramos Vinolas, then played two three-setters which didn't end at 1:30 am.

I'm not making any excuses for Coric since I'm no fan of his, but the dude was tired today. If Fed fans want to get complacent about him in the future, do so at your own peril.

Nice revenge match for Fed.

Good to see he still has the ability to avenge a loss. To hear most of the posters here tell it...He can no longer flip that switch and ghost a younger player like that.

If he gets another nextgen revenge win vs Tsits, we may have to reconsider this narrative.

Ok, Coric was tired, and Fed was so nice to send him to rest quickly.

I agree, but let's also not forget that when a player has to play so many long matches, that's a sign that said player did not finish the job quickly enough, and that's on him. This guy will be 23 before the end of this year, and I don't think he is going to get much stronger. Part of being a top pro is completing matches efficiently, so he got himself into the pickle he was in. There is a very good reason why even young players need to win matches in straights, or find ways not to exhaust themselves in 3. Remember also that in terms of winning games smaller events are as difficult as majors because there are fewer easy rounds, and the lack of days off make winning in 3 day after day almost as physically challenging as winning in 5 when there are extra rest days.

Only at the end of smaller events does the competition actually get easier, for obvious reasons.
