Dunlop CX 200 2021

I really like the cosmetics of the new Dunlop line and have not played with any of their frames for a number of years. The specs of CX 200 are very close to the Angell k7 red. I am wondering if someone could supply some feedback on the overall playability of this frame in terms of power, control, spin, comfort and feel?

This racquet really intrigues me as a players platform frame as there's alot of room for customization due to the fairly low swingweight. Feedback is always appreciated.

I have one on the way, probably delivery Wednesday. I’ll still have to sting it so chances are i won’t get a chance to hit until weekend or next week.

I just ordered one as well last night, lol and hope to hit with mine by Friday.

Do you think it will play like the K7 Red? I assume from reading alot of your posts that you will be adding weight to this frame?

The TW gave the 200 CX a decent review but mentioned that there is no free power. My thoughts are that with adding a little weight at 3&9 or 2&10 will bring this racquet alive with better plow and stability. The Dunlop tech seems really interesting and I see alot reviews on YouTube in Japanese.

I expect it will feel less muted, same ball bark of power, lower launch angle compared to Red. My plan is to try once or twice stock then add weight once i have a feel for the frame. However i most definitely expect to as it is light and SW is pretty low.

Less muted means a more direct feel and lower launch will suit my aggressive flatter and give better control. The 200 CX will most likely have better control than the K7 Red. I will need to add some weight to get the SW up to mid to upper 320's.

Yes, I am basing my predictions on a couple of things so hope I am right. K7 red plays more flexy then its RA and with aramid it does have a dampened feel. It also has a pretty open center of the string bed contributing to the higher launch angle. CX200 seems to get feedback of good connection and feel while center of the string bed from pictures doesn’t look as open. Hope my predictions have merit ;)

Yes, the K7 Red has a dampened feel but the newer ones felt a bit crisper. I did notice that 200 CX string pattern is more open towards the upper hoop and more closed in the middle. This should give better control and feel as well as more forgiveness on off center shots. Definitely an interesting racquet. I don't play with poly anymore so this frame should play well with a synthetic string.

I will be trying mine with a Toroline prototype string 1.23 poly 4 sided. Hope neither of us is disappointed ;)

Yes, I am hoping for a positive experience. I played with the Blade v7 98 16 x 19 for a while and thought it was a good frame but a bit too tip heavy and the control was a little sketchy at times as the ball would launch unexpectedly.

I expect a consistent response from the CX200 with good ball feel and comfort. I will probably just play with it stock for the first time unless it feels to whippy for me. I will most likely start with 2 grams at 2 and 10 as well 2 grams at the butt to maintain a nice HL balance. I am looking for fairly easy racquet head speed.

I just received mine today as well. I only have a small scale and it came in at 325 grams strung which is a few grams over spec weight. I strung it up with Gosen Micro 16 at 54lbs. On the throat of the frame it mentions a 64 RA unstrung. Just bouncing a ball on the strings, the 200 CX is definitely not as plush as the K7 Red or the V7 Blade. Not sure if it will be to my liking as I prefer a plush feel due to my sensitive shoulder. I have to analyze things a bit further. I would estimate that mine came in around a 325 SW. It probably will not need much more weight for my standard.

Is that with OG? Don't try to make any assumptions. Go to court with no preconceived notions and see what happens

No, that is not with the overgrip. I am not big on demoing racquets as I can't tell after 1 or 2 outings if I like it. It usually takes a few weeks but I will know right away if a racquet agrees with my arm. We are racquet junkies that like new technology, lol . The worst that will happen is it will be put up for sale, lol . IMO tennis is all about feel. It's difficult to buy a racquet just on specs alone. The 200CX does have a solid feel but a tad crisper than what I am used too. The plot thickens.

I bought the last year cx 200 and hit ok with it but didn't like the way it felt. I played around with a bunch of lead and just couldn't get it right. Finally I put some lead in the handle and added a leather grip and finally it felt absolutely perfect. Like a classic dunlop racquet. I prefer a crisp feeling and I think the leather really helped. I was excited to try the new line. Unfortunately I started demoing some other brands that have left me, after years and years of loyalty, disinterested in dunlop. I can't be bothered with all the customizing to get the racquet where I want and to do that to 3 or 4 racquets, especially with today's lack of quality control in racquets.

I am just the opposite as I like a very plush feel. There are alot of good racquets out there that make it hard to stay dedicated to one stick. I am kind of getting tired of selling racquets and losing money. Not sure if I will venture to try the 200 CX since it has a crisper feel than I like.

I am sorry but I decided to send my 200 CX back to TW. The feel is not plush enough for me coming from other racquets that I have been playing with recently. Still curious how your play test goes. Thanks. I ended buying a reverse Blade V7 98 16 x 19 as the feel is one of the best IMO. I also got a racquet well within the spec weight which is something that didn't happen last year.

Those of you who have played with both the 200 Tour (16x19) and the regular CX 200, is there a big difference in "free" power and forgivness to the advantage of the latter?

I currently play the CX200 and some time ago I had a brief fling with the Tour 16x19. I seem to recall the power was definitely less with the tour but for me it was the smaller head size that made be choose the regular CX200. Now that I’m playing more singles I’ve been thinking of giving the CX200 Tours another try.

I've been playing with the Tour (both string versions) but I think I could use a bit more mercy and help from the tool, especially in fast and tight match situations. When only playing for fun without any stakes there aren't many racquets that are more fun than a leaded CX 200 Tour.

Played a match with it early morning but I had made adjustments to it with leather grip and 5.5g distributed in the head. It weighs 339g and 32cm balance strung with a toroline prototype string they sent me. Played nice soft for me and zero complaint on comfort. Might be the prototype, I don't know but also added weight. Took me a couple of games to adjust to the softer feel on serve. On ground strokes it was fine but a little launchy on volleys. Maybe the string is too soft @50lbs, i should have strung with a string i know but i had promised to give feedback on the prototype so went with it. So seems like a good a stick but don't think it will get me to put away my BPs

Wow, you really added alot of weight. I know that the BP is a hot racquet these days but also has a very high swingweight. My cut off is about high 320's to 330 max. A BP would be nice to add to my collection if I could find a used one in good shape.

Both my BPs are in the 339/340 static weight. Balance 33.2cm and the SWs are 346 and 350. They play extremely well with that SW

I agree that higher swingweight frames play better. The Blade v7 98 16 x 19 is not quite at the level of the BP but the feel is incredible and a decent SW.

I found that even at 62x62 the racquet could be "launchy", albeit I use a poly/syn gut hybrid. I didn't really get that feeling under control until I added enough weight.

Aah. Thanks for that. Sounds interesting but probably not for me, I have hit with a couple of blade iterations and haven’t got in with them.

This racquet is a Pro Stock version of the Blade and is a real beast of a frame with the high swingweight in the mid to upper 330's, even possibly higher depending on the one you get due to issues with Wilson quality control. You need to be very strong player with excellent technique and footwork. Tennisnerd and AC Tennis reviews mention that you need to be 5.0 or higher to get the most out of this frame. Otherwise, physically strong to handle the very high swingweight. I am a strong 4.0-4.5 player but would consider buying a used BP just for the experience. In my younger years, I only played with racquets that had a SW of 340-350. However, at 53 330 SW is my max these days that my shoulder can handle.

This isn't a blade! In fact, zero resemblance to a blade. Its an H22 just sold under blade moniker. Amazing frames but demand good foot work and early prep. They are also high on SW so may not suit everyone. Mine were 346 and 350 strung SW but interestingly still nicely maneuverable.

Oh. I get it now. I currently have a very leaded radical mp (first graphene version). It is 343gms strung and 342 swingweight. But as much as it suits it is on its way out. I’m getting on a bit now and although I still play similarly to what I always have done I really want a little more, rather than less help from my next frame.
It’s hard to work out what to try when switching from a modded frame. Spec comparisons go out the window a bit.

intrigued by the OS... 21.5 flat beam and 61 flex, platform city. Anyone try this yet ?

I am also interested to know about the OS, i am looking for a soft stick, with os head and not to heavy to gain ease of play. And if someone could compare it to the blade 104 v7 and gravity s it will be great.

There are a few reviews posted under in the Dunlop racquet section. From the few reviews I saw, they seem quite favorable.
