Coach gets a lot of bashing as always, but if your players hardly able to get to ball to someone in the same shirt, tactics don't matter much. Yes he could have made earlier substitions or play with one or two different players (Rashford, Vardy) but that's about it. They also would had a hard time, since there's no service whatsoever from midfield.

I agree. Roy didn't do a good job, but at this level it's down to the players to perform really. Doesn't matter who the England manager is, we've been crap since '98 essentially.

Pretty much. I used to love watching them back in the day. Was pretty gutted for them at Euro 96. Such a team they had then. And it never hurts when a team plays as a team. You're a unit, not individuals. Awk well.

Looks like I was wrong. Didn't need a decent side.

Best thing for England though as Hodgson's gone, but Gareth Southgate coming in is hardly going to improve things much. Foreign managers are ok. There aren't many good English managers, why restrict yourselves?
I feel the best option would be van gaal.
Get him in considering what he did for netherlands 6 years ago

Yeah, those teams in 96/98 probably weren't as talented as the golden generation a decade later, but they were superior teams imo.

Iceland were too good. Maybe we'll get lucky and draw Greggs, Farm Foods and Pound Land in 2 years. We can only hope.

Yes, but for us Dutch the English actually did something right. In hindsight, the defeats agains Iceland in kwalification are now alittle less embarassing.

You mean 2014? yeah that was a good job. We didn't qualify for WC 2002, though. That was his first stint, and we had pretty good players back then.

2010 we reached the final under Van Marwijk, but the amount of luck was incredible. Game was also not nice to watch most of the time.

That's true. We'll have to hope Iceland go on to win the whole thing.. That way we can both say we lost to the champions of Europe ;)

You know its all in fun and we rip on England. But in reality this is what makes soccer such a great sport. Very few sports can an upset like this happen. It just makes the game more popular.

Special offer at Iceland tomorrow everything is 2 for 1.

There manager is a dentist our manager was the top paid manager 4M+ a year.

Perfect! I'll have to pop in and get me an 80s style prawn toast/spring roll party ring :p

Ha that right? You'd of thought Roy would be the dentist, it certainly felt like teeth were being pulled watching that crap.

What a joke, an absolute shambles. He needed to go, stick a fork in this England team, we are simply finished.

Rashford was man of the match for England - he played 5 minutes. Kane moved like a three legged donkey, Rooney was sloppy, we suck at our own sport....

BBC five live said part of the managerial staff but in my head that means the manager.

There is only one way for England to go now Harry Redknapp.

Blame must go to the FA, how they let Hodgson carry on after the World Cup fiasco is beyond me.

4 minutes for Rashford, crazy. Did more in those 4 minutes than half the players. There was nothing to lose, the match was taking place in one half only. Get the kid on.

Glad the Joe Hart myth has been shattered, The English Neuer?? lol

Delighted of course, what a story. But England, a shambles.

It's time to get Sir Alex in!

Even De Gea has made some mistakes this tournament (who is truly the only GK who comes close to Neuer). Having said that De Gea was fantastic today. Hart wasn't the problem, it was the team as a whole. Did they do a Safin and get drunk the night before? We looked like a conference side, can't believe what I've just seen tbh.

I think it's a problem with the grass roots game personally. Watching England, it's like we're stuck playing in the 90's. The game has moved on and adapted, we haven't.

We have talented players with potential, but we don't develop them the right way imo. Doesn't matter if it's Sven, McLaren, Roy etc.. Different manager, different players, same dross time after time.

Conte, there is a proper coach. You can see the value of caching (and overall structure) with Italy.

Yeah, structurally wrong. However Hodgson exacerbates it imo. He is not a England manager, he is a guy who should manage an underdog, good organization etc.

Under Sven (team better tbf) It was 3 QFs, 2 of them on penalties. The other a loss to Brazil. Ever since it has been even worse.

That's completely irrelevant. PL is the most competitive league in the world, without a doubt.

I reckon she would do a better job then woy..:p
The most competitive against teams that are average all around. I couldn't name you 3 players from leicester for example that would get into a real madrid/barca/bayern side.

I always look forward to England losing on penalties and everything that goes with it. This has been better, still laughing.

The best league by overall quality. The very best teams are better in Spain but other than that the English league is better. A team finishing 8th in the English league being favourites for a European tournament with the 4th and 5th team in the Spanish league being an example of that.

Leicester is a bad example, it was one of those seasons. They don't have the best players in the league, nobody would think that, how many players from Leicester would get into Chelsea's squad, a team finishing 10th? Not that many, maybe Mahrez and Kante. There are players in a number of Premier League teams that would get into such teams. De Gea, Aguero, Lloris, De Bruyne, Hazard, Coutinho, Kompany and Sanchez to name a few would get into at least one of those sides and many more.

I'd take a team finishing in the top ten in the spanish league over a team finishing in the top 10 in the british league in most days.
When you have teams like valencia, villareal, bilbao...and others then you see teams at the top of the premier league struggling to beat these teams in the champions league and usually not getting far it speaks volumes about the group of players that the british premier league have.

Don't get me wrong. Those players you mentioned are all good players. But their not great players. And tactically which is more to do with the managers and coaches in the league...they aren't as good as players and managers outside the league.

Looking forward to Portugal-Poland, Poland's been my Bandwagon since before the Euro started due to Glik and Milik and made a handy bet on them making the QFs, an SF or Final would be amazing

Germany to win though, been my thought process the whole tournament and no reason to doubt it.

When? Not recently, remember Liverpool who finished 8th in the Premier League narrowly losing 1-0 to 4th place Villarreal before comfortably winning 3-0 in the return leg in the Europa league last season. Valencia, the less said the better about last season. Those players I mentioned are among the best players in the world in their positions so how you can say they are not great players is ridiculous.

It's the typical reactionary response to England losing in the Euros to say the English game stinks, the league stinks all the way. Which is just silly, so the state of the game in Iceland is better? A country without a professional league. The English league is the best league in the world, you look at teams like Stoke, Southampton, West Ham, Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea. All teams finishing 6th and below last season, but all have quality teams. Would beat the majority of the teams in Europe aside from a small number most days.

Yeah got to be the favourites Germany, sleep-walked through with no real troubles, could easily kick into gear. Apparently Italy got a bit of a midfield crisis for their quarter final so could be tough. Guess Belgium likely to get to the final with that half but one would think Germany will be too strong in the Final, probably France or Italy too if they make it. Belgium have a lot of quality but it doesn't look like they are maximising it at the moment. A great opportunity for them though given how the draw has opened for them.

The English League has arguably the best 'depth' in the world but given the rise of Atletico and the squads of Villarreal, Sevilla, Bilbao and Celta even that's arguable.

But by no means is it the best League, it's the third best behind Spain and Germany and it's proven everytime in Europe.

Most exciting yes, but excitement doesn't equate to best in any respective measure. It has money flung into it, but instead most teams make vastly overinflated purchases instead of buying legitimate quality.
