Federer’s actual Frame specs!

I hit with Curren's Kneissl model back in the day; only 'stiff' in comparison with wood racquets. Wasn't it amazing how many ski companies jumped on the tennis bandwagon?

That’s true not all but more than I ever imagined . And for some odd reason all of my faves too. But I’m old so I dig the players from the late 80’s and early 90s:)

So is the OP still around, and does he still intend to post any actual specs??

BTW, this is not the first time a thread like this pops up.
And it seems that invariably these racquets fall in the hands of people who have no clue how to measure balance, or anything else really.
Hmmm.... Makes you wonder.

I was curious too ! I was excited to see but I was able to find the info on his racket when he still used the 90 sq inch pro staff online for pro st@#$ Tennis frames that give you specs . I was surprised by the ra I thought he played with a softer frame that would be in the low 60,s not 58 RA. I too enjoy softer frames like a lot of us here .. what’s funny is if you spent an hour on these boards you would come to understand that there is a large volume of good players that buy tennis rackets waaaay tooomuch . I’m one of them as well . And you’d also find that there are a ton of us with real jobs that make real money that spend their hard earned money on tennis rackets . And the majority of us are probably men , and the recurring theme I’m seeing is that folks are screaming for softer frames from the manufacturers of tennis rackets . I’m still shocked every time I see a new catalog from Wilson or Babolat or head etc .. and still they refuse to offer just one frame in a mid or mid plus with an Ra on the lower scale .. for instance I too was very excited to see the Wilson ultra tour come out but when I saw the RA I was saddened . Same on the project Babolat frames . Not a single one with a low RA.
All this expensive alternatives to keep a frame comfy with a stiff racket seems so wasteful . Cortex, flex carbon, counter vail all things to offset frame stiffness. Wouldn’t it just be easier just to loosen the matrix and make them more flexible ? Or get a ladder and climb up on the top shelf where the fiberglass Is, blow off the dust and throw some of that in the mix ? Jesus . How hard is this to do..

The "all pros use low RA-dogma" is obviously wrong. Take the PS Classic for instance.
This is a valid point and I agree 10000000 %. The PS classic is a wonderful sought out frame . And many a pros have and still play with this awesome stick. I think this racket had a 72ra , but it was a misleading spec. The Kevlar used in the layup was what made this racket play and hit so well . The numbers say stiff but if you have ever payed with it , the Kevlar breathes when you hit the ball in a amazing way . So it states 72 but feels like 52.. which I don’t care what the numbers say if that’s the situation . If it “ feels soft” I’m gonna enjoy it more than it feeling hard and stiff. But this is just me .

If the demand was high enough this type of frame would be sold. That's just simple business sense. Unfortunatly it's simply not high enough. As much as people on here are quite vocal and believe that the demand is there, the reality is that the TT mid-frame diehards (myself included) actually make up a very small number of the racquet buying public.

The 58RA you see there is for a USED racquet.
It is entirely possible that it was 65RA stock spec when he first got it from Wilson.

The racquet stiffness will decrease, with the number of re-strings and matches played.
Wasn't that the reason why Del Potro held on to his old racquets for so long?

Dang it ! But surely they sit around in a room and try and come up with the latest and greatest . And they surely have to know that with any new line they are coming out with one of them will not sell hardly at all ...almost like a filler song on an album by any artist .. so instead of that frame being a huge power granny stick that will be double the price of all the other ones .. happens with most manufacturers every year , give us a “throw away swan song midsize with a absurdly low ra so we can all be still and shut up for a season :).. I’m kidding but it’s actualky not a bad idea .

Now vlad does bring up a great point here ,
I’m a professional racket stringer . And I’m embarrassed that I can’t answer this question perhaps because there are way too many variables considering this note of , rackets flexing out after times of restringing them .. does anyone know of a good range of lost stiffness from a restrung racket ? How many points is reasonable after 10 restrings.? I have NO idea , I will say only personally to me I’ve never had nor have I ever played with a racket that I felt was too flexed out due to too many restrings. That’s I’m sure due to my love of soft even softer than most folks like . But I still never have an answer when anyone asks me .to me most of my stash of sticks are all old as the hills anyway . And every time I restring them I never am awAre of them getting any softer than the previous string job. Granted I’m also not cracking A THOUSAND 100 mph FH AND BK a day like the pros do ..
but it does bring up a fun topic . So if say 4 of Rogers frames start out at say 65 Ra.. and he plays with thOse 4 frames for 3 months daily or almost dAily . In rotation ... all 4 getting restrung when he wanted them .. what would the ra be say in 90 days on those 4 rackets ?
62Ra? 59 RA? Maybe 48 RA ? Just don’t know .

I am the same way but not too that degree. But I try to stay with 2 of my 8 head rackets as they are the softest outta the bunch .. but del Potro . I wonder if he had at one time 10 or more that felt “ right “, but for whatever reason the others cracked ?

Hello all,

I was lucky enough to receive an actual Roger Federer frame through my contact at the Wilson pro shop in Chicago IL yes this means it was the laver cup edition and would like to share a little bit as to his actual playing frame.

I will have to admit that the retail version we can all but in stores is very smillar and probably as close as you can get to the actual pros frames with a few minor modifications. As we all know top players use pro stock racquets not available to the general public and just simply endorse or promote and sponser the user friendly racquets we see for sale in retailers around the world.

After stripping the racquet, I was able to conclude the following specs and modifications as his actual playing specs.

His frame is a Wilson prostsff RF97 autograph in 4 3/8 grip (leather priority one leather grip and custom molded Handle) with a Wilson pro conform over grip and of course he uses the old school power pads to help preserve the playability of his natural gut main strings.

His only modifications to the weight of the racquet is he placed 3 grams of lead at 12 oclock in the tip and he had silicone injected in the Handle. To help figure out exactly how much of silicone is in the Handle, keep in mind that unstrung the racquet actual weighs 345 grams (without overgrip and strings ). When I get it all strung up with the power pads later this week I can give string weight as well. Thanks all and I can figure out how to post pictures I will.
Bay list no 13323543392 also has lead tape under the hoop plus silicone in the handle (not sure how much in each case), note how the beige leather grip + butt cap is different from the retail version (which is black) and certainly not identical. Now the retail laver version does not have leather (it's black and synthetic) and the buttcap is different. Does your frame have a beige leather grip with the reddish silicone buttcap? Just curious.

Positive , the seller is pro_stock_rackets though you are correct in the sense that the search does not return a result. It's a black rf 97 autograph for $1499 (12 images). Hope it helps.

If this racket is really one of Federer's (not sure if we are claiming that or not) then why does it have a Wilson leather grip? I thought that he uses P1 leather.

Not only that, but none of the P1 installed buttcaps I’ve seen have a trap door. Could it be a pro stock from Wilson during the test phase? Dunno either, this racquet looks unused....

so if you watch the lavar cup this year you'll notice his swingspeed was unreal, much faster than his previous and post tournaments. due to the amount of doubles federer had to play for the laver cup i believe its safe to say he used a different spec with possibly a lower swingweight or static weight, so while im sure that was the spec he used for the laver cup its probably not what he used for the majority of the past few years. especially the 2017 australian open.

I've been very skeptical of that seller's pro stocks for a while... Specifically what's mentioned above about the lack of P1 leather, trap door buttcaps and in some cases decal placement.

Most sketchy, they recently listed a Burn FST 95 saying it was del Potro's... Can't recall their exact wording - not that he played it but was prepared for him or one he would have used... Only problem is the frame is clearly (throat notch near grip) a retail FST95 *not* a Six.One 95 mold. I was about to email the seller and ask WTF, but the listing already changed to say "Top 100 Player" & removed delPo's name...

On the Fed frame, why would P1 have added lead tape but a brown Wilson leather?! The lead is to equalize weight/balance which would differ with P1 vs Wilson leather. I just don't buy that the Wilson Pro Room put that lead and leather on prior to sending to P1.

They also have listed a "pro stock" RF85... Are there honestly pros out there requesting/getting prostock versions of the RF85?!?! Sure its possible, but I really doubt it.

He's also fairly superstitious - that was a factor as well.
Hence my hunch (wild guess lol) that they (Wilson Pro Room or his customizer) took the older HPS/nSix.One style buttcaps off his old KFactor PJ sticks and put them on his new ones after coloring the small red square black! I can see clear as day that the buttcaps on his current "Burn FST" PJ are in fact the HPS/nCode style caps. Perhaps he wanted some (any) piece of the old sticks on the new???

This is the truth that most of the members of this forum can't handle.

Here’s the thing: people don’t know what they don’t know. I’ll call it the Dunlop-Kruger effect. ;)

For example: I played some rec doubles a couple of weeks ago. One player had broken the strings on both of his Youtek Radical Pros. One of the other players handed him a random Walmart esque Wilson I had never seen. After warm up, I handed him one of my Zebra Radical Tours. Figured since it said Radical on it, he might have some psychological comfort with it. Anyhoo, at the end of the night he grabbed me and said “man, this is the greatest racquet ever! So much control, amazing feel. what new racquet plays just like this?” I had to break it to him that there really isn’t anything like that being sold anymore. So, is there no demand, or do the racquet companies just not offer what people would actually like if they knew it existed?

Do you really think that people spontaneously demand fake pro's racquet made in China with poor quality control at a made in Swizerland price? Or they are drove by lies that advertisement vehiculates? @PeterFig

I fear that all we are doing on this forum is creating the formula for people to defraud unsuspecting fans. I am sure the next versions of the Pro stock fed copy will have P1 leather and lead. Why not add $20 worth of parts to a $200 racket and charge $1,500?

No, I think legitimate questions are being raised. For example, I missed the fact that feds racquets don't have a trap door from what I have seen. Ultimately, it's up to the buyer to make an informed decision. Of course there is a lot of information to process but that's called doing ones due diligence.

All my retail RF97's had silicone in the handle when I purchased them. The RF97 handles are not sold hollow. Interesting story is that I purchased a 4th RF97 locally and it vibrated like crazy. Turns out that Wilson forgot to put silicone in the handle, it was hollow. I contacted Wilson and they sent me a replacement frame. I did however end up adding silicone to that one frame as Wilson let me keep it.

Figured when it didn't come up on the ol' google.

Yeah, you can only get them from P1, or off Rackets customised by P1.

is p1 leather better than normal Wilson leather ?

IMO, yes, the Wilson one's don't stretch as much, they don't give as good-a-bevel as the P1 ones, I got 4 from Ron, they went straight onto my Strike's and haven't come off.
