Who hit the flattest ball among the current pros? Safin? Agassi? Grosjean?
Yeah I saw that match Berdych played agains Nadal in Cincy and he was hitting some massive forehands. Nadal's ball was landing right in his strike zone. Safin can hit pretty flat forehands at times too.Grigollif1 said:Thomas Berdych has a very flat ball. Maybe, to flat for his own good because many times he tends to make a lot of unforced errors but, when he is on he can out power almost any player in the ATP.
Agree, Hrbaty's game really looks old school, with flat trajectories and not too much ball rotation. Many of the other good flat blasters, like Blake and Agassi, still have alot of topspin the flatter trajectories. When the ball is hit in the old school fashion, it will almost slide, rather than bouce up, making it very hard to retrieve if your not in position.arosen said:Hrbaty. Unbelievable flat ball on every shot off both sides. Barely clears the net.

Sometimes when I crush a big fully powered flat fore or backhand, it mostly just lands in front of the baseline, and then I think, how is anyone like Agassi or Safin going to hit this ball even much harder and stil manages to keep it in!?

Mikael said:Unless you already count him as a retired player, I'd say Enqvist wins this contest. Sure, someone like Safin or Hrbaty sometimes hits pretty flat, but most of the time they don't take too many risks. Enqvist OTOH is like a robot, hitting flat bomb after flat bomb after flat bomb. It's really impressive and when you see him live he stands out from the other players because of this.
Schalken, Berdych and Soderling are the other guys I'd put in this category.
Topspin limits your pace not hitting flat !djones said:Isn't there a limit in pace you could hit the ball in flat?

How could you forget to include the flattest western grip forehand in the world? Andy Roddick's.Golden Retriever said:Who hit the flattest ball among the current pros? Safin? Agassi? Grosjean?
Not if you're hitting from above the net. High balls can be hit at a downward trajectory so you could hit it as hard as you can and the ball shouldn't go out.djones said:Isn't there a limit in pace you could hit the ball in flat?

fastdunn said:Nope. Video analysis revealed Sampras had ideal "ratio" of pace to
spin. His shots had lots of pace but also lots of spin(heavy balls).
In all categories of shots, Sampras ranked middle to high
in term of spin(rpm) among about 10 top players of 90's...

Flat hits really involve both trajectory and rotation.
Wonder if many remember Jimmy Connors ?
