Greatest Canadian player ever

Andreescu without a doubt on the female side...although if our beloved Prime Minister Trudeau has his way, trans athletes will be allowed to compete in women's tennis, and exercise massive muscles to terminate the women players from ever winning anything again. Brilliant idea, PM, another dandy.

Thank you for sharing this brilliant thought and reminding me to place you on ignore.

Why don't you tell me how you really feel....you think that trans athletes cannot take over the women's sports and terminate the age of women athletes in tennis?

Here is the rest of the quote which you left out,

"That would be a distinctly Canadian contribution to progressive left-wing change in sports. Thank you PM, another dazzling idea."

The official clip, some tough match, top class of this season.

Sakkari served for the match in the third set. Have we seen a greater exhibition of fighting spirit?

I still think Raonic over Bianca. She needs a longer career, imo.

He is one of our own, and was trained here with Canadian development funds.
On his Wikipedia bio, you will see TWO flags, Canadian and British. He is a dual citizen.
Rusedski basically switched to GBR so he could get more fan support. I was there that summer he broke through at Wimbledon. The British were so excited to have anyone who could get past the second round at Wimbledon.

The Canadian tennis public has hard feelings, because they paid for his training but he acquired British citizenship to get on the well-funded British team. Or so goes the story.
Personally, I have no hard feelings, and Rusedski continues to claim that he is a proud Canadian.
The typical fan cares not one iota about that so yeah. You think anyone in Russia cheers less for any of the -ovas because they live in Florida?

Rusedski, according to one well-known Canadian former player, indicated after leaving to Britain that he would have stayed in Canada if Tennis Canada had offered more support.

There is that too. the LTA was so desperate for a decent player they would have forged papers if need be. but if he had stayed with Canada he would have just been another player. But by becoming the British number 1 he earned a bit of cachet. And that’s worth more than a title.

Shapovalov is getting a chance to win another ATP title in the Geneva Open. Federer has lost, so Shap is the ranking player left in the field, now in the semi-finals.

So for the men in singles, how do we look at Masters titles vs. Slam runs that didn't result in a trophy?

Raonic is near 0fer even at 500 level. If Shap did with a couple Masters but never got Slam SF would he be better?

The funniest thing I have seen on television was John Lloyd's commentary of a Rusedski match just after Greg joined the British team, when Lloyd stated "Greg actually played a couple of seasons in Canada and picked up his fighting spirit there."
Actually, he lived his ENTIRE life in Canada until he switched Davis Cup teams. Some joke.
I seem to remember him and his wife (IQ of a flip flop) struggled to know what a musket was?

To be fair. The whole family seemed fairly dim and vacuous. That said Why on earth would such a term come up in the tour?

No one can top Jeff Tarangos wife who slapped an umpire and accused him of being corrupt. It’s like thanks honey. I’ll take care of my own work problems.

Andreescu earlier today at Eastbourne, learning how to play on grass at a higher level. This surface is better for her leg injury problems.

#99 The Great One
For some years, I lived in the same city as the Great One & Family, and had some contact and dealings with those good folks.
We belonged to the same country club, although we never teed off together. Had many mutual acquaintances.
I almost arranged for a musical event with them and our symphony orchestra, but somehow despite all the excitement, it did not quite happen.
The Great One's son-in-law, Dustin Johnson, won the Canadian Open a few blocks from here, at the same golf course where yours truly was hitched a few years back.
The Great One provided Johnson with personal coaching on each hole, free of charge.

Big wins today for both Felix and Denis. Two Canadian men in the singles quarterfinal, never happened before.
These two young men look especially at their best at Wimbledon.
Rusedski was in some ways ahead of his time. I just watched a Canadian born Romanian Chinese woman who grew up in London play against a Croatian-Australian who trained as a teen in Florida.

Looking at the draw I’d say they both have an excellent chance to make the semis. Wouldn’t that be something? Two Canadians in the Wimbledon semis?

Here is the ATP review of today's Canadian men performance in historical perspective.

"Auger-Aliassime is the fifth Canadian to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals, following in the footsteps of Robert Powell (1908, 1910, 1912), former finalist Milos Raonic (2014, 2016-18), Vasek Pospisil (2015) and 10th seed Denis Shapovalov, who earlier on Monday defeated eighth-seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-1, 6-3, 7-5."
And Greg Rusedski reached the quarterfinals in 1997. So that is now six Canadians to do that.

So had Raonic managed to do it in 2015 as well this would have already happened.
Nonetheless I am not a betting man nor Canadian but if I was I might be inclined to bet that we see two Canadian men in the semis.
