Have the days of Nadal at no1 world rank gone forever ?.

This year - not a chance.

2014 and onwards, I would have to see Djokovic (and even Murray) in action first before predicting anything.

If I were a betting man, I'd say no but it's far from impossible.

If he can't dominate clay then he sure ain't going to dominate on the other surfaces. The French Open will prove a lot. If he doesn't make a very strong showing there then it's going to be a pretty steady descent for the bullock from Bullorca I'm afraid. I have to say I think he's going to struggle and may even suffer a Rosoling or at least a Soderlinging well before the final. He had a hell of a good run though; he should be happy.

I miss the days when Nadal was number two. Entering every game, it never looked like he was going to dominate anyone--his game was not technically overwhelming or smooth. However, he gave you that "raw", unrefined feel--it's almost as if a talented caveman came out to play tennis. He grinds every point the way he hit his topspin forehand--with relentless brutality and murderous instinct. When technically overwhelmed, he finds a way to beat you; when in the worst possible situation in a point, he finds a way to pass you. He gave you that feeling--the feeling that he was never going down even if you threw the kitchen sink at him.

Now, he is more consistent and complete than before, but he never gives out that "raw" aura anymore--it was gone with his capri days, his no.2 days.

I haven't seen that "raw" Nadal on a consistent basis since the 2009 Australian Open. He's made some brief reappearances since then, but not often. That style was impossible to continue with in the long term, so he had to change many things.

Slim to no chance of Nadal ever being No.1 again...unless Djokovic decides to take a year off...fat chance of that happening lol

Last 1/2 of the year

Golly it is all cream for Nadal the 2nd half of the year. In every event he enters he is guaranteed to gain points - a lot of them actually. (Because he didn't play the second half of 2012 so he has nothing to defend). I can't see a scenerio where he will be less than 3 in the world at the the end of the year - I expect him to be 2 and has an outside chance of being number 1. The other 3 in the top 4 will hate it - because he will be making outstanding progress in the 2nd half of the year and there is nothing they can do about it.

It doesn't matter. Federer beat Djokovic in the semi final, and Nadal beat Federer in the final to win the title. It's that simple.

You're just saying what happened, not what potentially could have happened. We all know what actually happened, so what's the point in reiterating it again and again. The purpose of a forum is to discuss all possibilities and combinations.

I could just as easily say that Federer beat Soderling in the 2009 French Open final, Soderling being the man who beat Nadal but that Nadal could have beaten Federer had he got to the final instead. The point is, it doesn't matter, because Nadal lost to Soderling, and Federer beat Soderling in the final to win the title.

I agree with that. I think most people with any kind of brain would have predicted Nadal to beat Federer in the final had he gotten there. Yourself included, so please don't even go there. Yes Fed beat the man who beat Nadal, but so what? Are you this illogical? Ever heard of matchups?

Nadal is close to retirement. His body is a wreck. He is playing because he has obligations and contracts. To get to number 1 he has to pass Djoker and Murray.

Murray has been in the final of last 3 majors, so he has improved big time.

Djoker is the one who can consistently beat Nadal on any surface and he just proved he is in good shape.

Now how a limping Nadal can take over the two? Why instead of dreaming you look at the numbers and the facts buddy

Players have challenges through their careers, that defines who they are.

Fed made it back to #1, a remarkable achievement at that time of his career.

It's up to Nadal to meet the challenge.

Something seriously wrong with you.

I thought you were asking for opinions and able of a normal conversation. Seems like you have mental issues.

if you think what you poasted was 'a normal conversation' and wasn't trolling then YOU really have got mental problems, ODDjack.

what other crazy ideas have you got ?, lets hear them, why stop at Nadal is only playing because of contractual obligations and he is close to retirement?, I know, maybe the mafia are forcing nadal to stay on tour for some reason

I don't think its impossible, but he has to dominate the clay season as he's always done in the past. It seems pretty unlikely to happen prior to the 2014 Aussie Open.

Nadal still has a shot at No. 1. 2014 may be his year.

Let's see, Ralph is odds on favourite for RG and if he wins RG he becomes a strong favourite for Wimby too. He's gonna participate in the USO and by doing just that he'll gain a ton of points by just reaching the semis/finals(though if he wins both RG and Wimby,he'll most likely pull off another 2010). 2014 he participates in the AO so more points in the bank by reaching just the semis/finals(it's a given these days that the big 4 make the semis at the very least.)

As a sidenote I have to say Ralph doesn't really care about the #1,if anything he prefers being #2 as that allows him to trash talk in the press about how he's the underdog. His goal is to overtake Fed's slam and he'll put out all the stops to do it, any records that get broken along the way is just a sideshow imo.

He has a chance, no doubt. He'll be #2 in the race if he wins Barcelona. It is definitely possible he could make it to #1 at some point. He can't afford another long injury break though.
