What happened to Sharapova?

Did all her endorsements dry up that badly?

So, if the earnings from endorsements remain roughly the same, Federer would be knocking on the $100 mil mark per year from endorsements alone.

And people question whether Federer should keep playing.

I'm surprised Nishikori makes more from endorsements than Nadal and Djokovic.

I thought Nadal and Djokovic were really popular?

They are. Japan just so much richer than Spain or Serbia and Nishikori is the best tennis player they have ever had. He'd probably make as much as Fed if he were from China.
I know he is popular in Japan, but I would think that given how many grand slams Djokovic has won, his overall worldwide popularity would bring him more endorsements than Nishikori.

I doubt it. China doesn't have a free market.

Kei's endorsements are from Japanese brand names like Uniqlo.

Wealthy Chinese own factories that manufacture products with some foreign label on it.

Evert economy in the world has regulations in place to protect consumers and prevent monopolies. China exhibits all the elements of a free-market economy, with a healthy display of consumerism and a liberal sprinkling of capitalist greed and exuberance.

Ummmm... no. Every industry in China is dominated by state owned enterprises. Competition from publicly owned enterprises is a no no in the free market. Let alone complete dominance of the nation's economy by them.

There is no true free market, but we use the term loosely and China is pretty damn far from a free market.

The socialist market economy (SME) is the economic system and model of economic development employed in the People's Republic of China. The system is based on the predominance of public ownership and state-owned enterprises within a market economy.

Japan's industrialized, free market economy is the third-largest in the world, surpassed by China in the year 2010.

I looked up Yao Ming's former endorsements and his largest Chinese sponsor was Yanjing Beer, a majority state owned beer company.

Kei has been earning more in endorsements than Nadal and Djokovic for the last 2 years. Before that, they were banking over $30 million and making more than him. I'm surprised to see Nadal making less than a couple of years ago considering the last year he's had.

Rafa's academy has also been sponsored (by a lot of sponsors) for the last couple of years.
