I see Milos Raonic as the 2011 Wimbledon champion

I have seen enough, this kid has it all. ALL. Serve, poise, atttitude, cool, smarts, mental toughness, sense of humor and class. I can feel it now, he is going to win Wimbledon, if not this year then next. MILOS RAONIC has arrived and he going to be around for a while. Todd Martin said Raonic does compare to his own playing style but "he does everything better."

Todd martin was #4 in the world and played in two Grand Slam finals and should have made the Wimbledon final against Krajickek but he choked to Washington in the SF.

I dont think he played one grass match yet at ATP, Challenger or Futures level.
Wait and see. Looks like he will be effective, but Wimbledon champ this year?

I doubt it, I think Nadal might do his usual French-Wimbledon-USO thing again this year.

Nothing is set in stone (well, besides Nadal winning the French) bt in all honesty, Raonic won't be winning any slams this year. I foresee some 3rd round, 4th round appearances, maybe a quarter final if he gets a good draw but no slams for Milos this year

I agree - USO QF at best for Raonic this year. Maybe a couple of rounds at W, but nothing at the French for Milos yet.

He's missing experience ;)

Perhaps might have a shot in the future if he improves his BH a bit. The rest of his game is pretty solid.

Its a mirage, things look closer and bigger in the distance then they are. That tall 6ft5 looking figure is actually a 6ft1 Majorcan.

Somebody bump all the old Ernests Gulbis threads, the deja vu is getting loud.

Well, I'm now convinced the hype is greater than what gulbis had. The bandwagoning is just sad, you wait in a few months time when raonic won't be having the good results people will start calling him a fluke etc.

Can you blame the youngens? They have 5 second memory thanks to facebook and google.

Come on now, I'm all for young upcoming guys, but this is where typical TT overhype begins. Wimbeldon champion? Crowning anyone Wimbledon Champ in February is preposterous, let alone a guy who's just broken through and barely competed at the highest levels. Ridiculous thread.

It's like people see a new guy and forget how great guys like Nadal, Fed, Djoker, etc still are, and that Milos is still a notch or two (or three) below those guys.

Omg the hype around this place is insane! You'd think we were on the Oprah set.

Yes, let the bandwagoning begin! Of course Nadal, Federer, Berdych, Soderling, Murray, Djokovic better not bother, it's written in stone!

I think that at least we should be starting to see him with a more updated pj from Wilson... the kid earned it. Wimbledon 2011? I do not think so.

There are many people who can beat him on grass....you know they thought the same things about Isner and Queerey big serve! Many of the guys on tour...especially the top 8 can return those serves well enough!

Milos might win a slam one day......I don't see it happening in the next two years! Defintly a 4th round appearance at Wimbledon is very possible!

Taking out Verdasco in a FINAL like this is excellent, far better than Gulbis who took what two years to finally win his first event in Delray vs. Dr. Ivo. Raonic is something special, he is improving at an unbelievable rate and this could be Boom Boom Becker all over again. That serve is going to drive a lot of top player crazy like it did yesterday to Verdasco who punched himself in the head three times after blowing that BP at 4-4 in the second set. I see absolute greatness in Raonic, he can win Wimbledon. Nothing phases this kid, he was down 6-2 in the first set TB then stormed back. Anything is possible now.

Experience to make adjustments(returning serves from 20 ft b the baseline like yesterday), much better return(needs a lot of work), strategy and improve consistency with more power. He has a bright future if He keeps working hard.

Gulbis has as much potential, but he doesn't want/need it. Raonic is actually going to win, unlike Gulbis.

Verdasco didn't blow a chance, Raonic blew him up with the serve. Understand it, that match was played and decided by Raonic, verdasco was just a passenger.
I agree He can win Wimbledom, but not this year, however He will do really well there IMO

LOL, that's why he need two tiebreaks and for verdasco to choke 4 SP while leading 6-2 in the first tiebreaker. But yeah, it was on his racket :)

Yeah ...
winning against Verdasco doesn't prove anything ...
but the boy got skillz :)

I wouldn't say that but verdasco is notoriusly up and down for a top 10'er so I wouldn't read too much into this.

Milos was good(from what I saw in AO not in SAP) but he is still primarily a server IMO, and while he does have a easy flowing fh I would like to see him against other top guys over time to get a better opinion. But he already has a huge weapon at such a young age and that's a major plus for him.

I remember another guy with a very big serve and easy flowing game that came on the scene not long ago. His name was Cilic and he has been in a lull for most of 2010, though he has recovered lately.

Does he move as well as martin?
for a tall man martin moved extremely well. he didn't make a lot of errors even when under pressure.

a lot of those tall players hit the ball well in their zone, but their errors shoot through the roof, if they have to hit on the run and are moved.

raonic is for sure a very good ballstriker, but before he proofs that he can move as well as martin I won't label him as better than martin.

players that make errors when moved around will have a hard time, when opponents figure that out.

but he for sure hits the ball a lot harder than martin.

He will probably lose in the 1st round at Wimbledon - very possible, with a bad draw, he could exit in the 1st round like Davydenko did at the Australian.

Ha, can't believe people have to refer to this man as a child or kid. He's 20 years old and he'd tower over all of you, so I'd quit the 'kid' talk.

Unfortunately this is the slow court era of tennis, not the best time for a youngster with a big serve and an aggressive all court game to come on the scene.

All court tennis is now a tough style to play consistently at all of the majors including Wimbledon.

Its a shame, a kid with this much potential and skill, will not be rewarded as much as he should for it over his career, because the game has been slowed down to favor defense over offense.

true ...
he might make it to the latter stages of a major tournament but win it ?
don't think so ..
you either have to be able to bash as hard as Delpotro or Soderling (on gravel) or to defend like nadal (and djokovic like he did in ao)

and about my previous post saying that beating Verdasco doesn't mean anything i just mean that Verdasco is not really a reference because he might win against anyone at any given day but more oftenly lose against anyone at any given day :)

no disrespect, the guy can play tennis but he's too busy thinking about wozniacki during rallies

Great result for a wildcard invite to the SAP open. Add me to the bandwagon...this Milos guy is going places:):)!

Verdasco is a turkey and no longer top 10, for good reason. Again, I like the kid, think he has potential top 10 in him, but guys these days know how to handle big servers maybe better than ever in the men's game, since so many guys have big serves. It's a huge leap of faith from taking out Verdasco in a 250 final to having what it takes to beat the likes of Fed, Nadal, Djoker, Murray, Sod, etc in the slams.
