What's the shinny stuff on Connors' racquet head? Did he put lead tape on outer side of the hoop?

It's the first time for me to see him play with anything other than T2000. Was it permanent conversion or did he return to T2000? Thanks for the video.

Edit: Oh.. I checked with youtube and he is back to his trusty steel racquet in the US Open in 1985.

Lead is the shiny stuff.

Connors alternated between the T2000 and ProStaff at tournaments. He played the early rounds that weren't televised with his T2000 and changed to the ProStaff when they turned the cameras on. He finally cut over in '85 or '86 I think.

Interesting. He alternated two different racquets in a same tournament. I have seen a magazine ad where Connors was presenting the midsize ProStaff before but didn't know he actually played with it. First time seeing it in this thread. But playing different racquts in a same event wouldn't have helped him a bit. I guess that was due to the contract thing. Thanks for the info.

Did Connors actually make the switch to the Pro Staff full-time in 1985-86?

My recollection was that he never really liked it or it just never suited his game. But that under his contract with Wilson, he was “persuaded” to try it out on tour for a time around 1984. He then went back to his trusty old T2000, until he was dropped by Wilson.

When did he make the switch to graphite?

He was playing with that yellow-green Estusa in 1991. (I am probably wrong on specifics here, trying to recall this all from fallible memory.)

Are all those St. Vincent models selling online real? Suddenly appearing everywhere, for the money can't a butt cap be replaced to gain a few extra bucks?
