If you could just change one point in entire modern tennis history, what will it be?

Interesting, isn't it???
I mean, change one point and the entire tennis history or that particular match, tourney and/or season can be changed in your favorite one's favour...
I will go with one of the following points, in the descending order of my willingness to change its outcome....

1) That match point for fed on nadal serve @ Rome2006 final, instead of FH error, I would want fed to hit a monster Inside-in FH, and eventually forcing a short ball from nadal, rushing to net and ending the match

(Can change entire dimension of fedal rivalry)

2) That breakpoint on nadal serve @ Wimbledon 2008, in 5th set at 4-3 on 40-30. Instead of a cheap useless FH return, fed hits an agressive FH return right into nadal backhand, and nadal missing it or hitting out.... Fed then at serve 5-3, wins the match

(Can change their next 2 slam meetings' results at AO09 and FO11)

3) That missed dropshot by fed on nadal serve, in 1st set at 5-2, set point vs nadal @ RG11 final. Fed kind of disappeared after that point due to mental demons. Dropshot just lands in instead of out, and fed wins first set 6-2. The match maybe well and over in 4 sets with fed won, having boosted confidence. Or can go to 5 sets..

4) that missed backhand passing shot by nadal @ AO2012 final in 5th set against djoker when nadal was 1 break up. Nadal's shot lands just a few mm in instead of a few mm out... Nadal holds serve and then continues to get his victory

5) that unwilling net-touch by djoker against nadal In FO13 semifinal. Djoker played his best ever RG match that day. He was 4-3, a break up in final set against nadal. He just doesn't touch the net in that smash and wins the point which gave him ad. Wins the game, 5-3 on nadal serve. Then pressurizes nadal serve and win final set 6-3 or wins on own serve 6-4.

I don't have sufficient memory of the match, but Rafter fans might have one from the 2002 Wimbledon final against Ivanesevic?

  • Roddick wins second set tiebreaker(and match in 5 epic sets) with a successful volley in W2009 . Fedr gets his revenge next year by winning his 6th Wimbledon against Roddick in the final. (Nadal gets his second Wimby later no worries, probably 2011)
  • Prevent Seles stabbing somehow( I know this is not a 'point', but I'd change it nonetheless). Graf-Seles rivalry had more potential I think.

Surely everyone wishes that Federer's forehand that Nadal challenged on match point in the 2017 AO final was out.

Nah nothing changes the outcome in that match
Fed was clearly outplaying nadal especially in last 5 games...

And would have hit 2 aces in a row to win the contest...
No version of nadal was stopping fed in those last 5 games

If you could just change one point in entire modern tennis history, what will it be?

I would pick up tennis at 6 or 7 years old, use my athletic abilities to shine and garner support to have some coach/academy pick me up as I started my teens to develop me into the amazing phenom I should have/could have been. I would enter the ATP with a bang around the time Agassi and Sampras where making moves, and I would be able to compete with them, letting the cards fall where they may. But I would have been there.

If I want to change a point from that match, it's Nadal to take the game point for 4-2 in the fifth set.

RG 2013 semi Djokovic net touch

It's often forgotten that Djokovic won the next point after the net touch, despite going on to lose serve in the game. The net touch just became symbolic regarding Djokovic losing the break that he had in the fifth set and eventually losing the match.

Change nothing, because re-writing history could change the entire landscape and many beautiful moments then may not have happened.

Fed missed a drop shot at RG final against Nad in 2011. It was close, but it was out. Went on to win the second set if I remember right. That was a huge miss.

Federer had only three good sets of tennis in him. He was gassed by the fourth. I highly doubt Federer was beating Nadal in straights, even if he had won that first set. Nadal was physically too superior, and was ready to go for a five set match. Nadal was not losing that match.

This is a given, but that return ND hit in the 2011 US Open semis.. Wouldve loved to see a RF vs Rafa US Open Final and who knows if Fed winning that semi wouldve effected Novaks dominance.

2011 French Open Final, 2-5 in the first set, Federer misses the dropshot on Nadal's serve and goes on to lose that set. I think that may have really changed things if that shot would have been in. Not saying that Federer would have won, but he was definitely playing well enough that day to win.

Well, maybe on the previous point a Seles backhand goes wildly off, hits Geunthe Parche in the head and knocks him unconscious. He is taken to the hospital, and quickly diagnosed as mentally ill and receives proper psychiatric care.

How is that for changing one point in tennis history?
