Is Gosen Micro Super a good replacement for Kirschbaum SG?

I will use 16L Super in the mains with poly crosses to replace KSG 17. I will use 16L Super full bed in an old, flexy 90". Does this sound feasible?

Much appreciated

Absolutely, the Gosen OG Sheep Micro is one of the best inexpensive synthetic strings on the market. Good all around playability with decent durability without the high price. It has been my string of choice for many years!!

The main properties I'm looking for to transfer from the KSG to the new string is soft feel and smooth coating. I have a reel of Pro's Pro Gold Spiral and a set of Solinco Pro Stacked, but these are different than the KSG. KSG is more like an OGSM that is a little softer and more slippery and mildly more muted.. The Gold Spiral lends an interesting soft feel to a string bed with the aramid thread running through it. Pro Stacked 1.30 feels quite fat and the next size down is 1.20.

pros pro has 3 types of syn.guts that I got to try
pp.syn.gut.power, soft/dampened
pp.syn.gut, middle of the road, predictable
pp.syn.gut #x, crisper

That's what I think too. But there's another string called OG Micro Super that might be what I'm looking for.

g.og.sheep.MICRO is what ive always tried!
I guess im not familiar with g.og.sheep.micro.SUPER, haaa

Another good question might be:

Is Kirschbaum re-naming their SG and moving it up their price ladder?

Kirschbaum is taking their synthetic gut off the market.

On Dec 20 from them:
"Yes, kirschbaum has replaced all its synthetic guts, for a new generation of soft polyesters like Xplosive speed or Pro line evolution"

"No more reels in the worked, not even un (sic) the factory"

I play with PL Evolution and used Xplosive Speed for the TW play test - not sure why SG is being killed off. Neither PLE nor Speed are comparable to KSG in comfort and play durability - my opinion, with confirmation from the specific user group for whom I have strung both PLE and KSG (with lower ref tension on the PLE, etc.)

I hope the SG re-surfaces at Pro's Pro.

Original Gosen Sheep Micro [OGSM] is very similar to POSG and slightly cheaper. Gamma SG w/o Wearguard is also similar and more expensive. I found POSG, Gamma and OGSM to all break between 12-16 hours in the 16 Ga version.

Thanks - that's an interesting move. Hopefully not a trend throughout the industry.

When Jim Courier's deal with Gosen expired, Gosen released Supper. I found it to play the same, slightly stiffer than the original BITD.

You should try either Babolat's synthetic gut or Gamma's. Both have a really slick outer coating on them. And both are on the softer side of synthetic guts. I would advise getting the regular version of either, not the longer lasting one like Prince Duraflex.

Gamma's is here:

Looks like TW is closing it out although I suspect it's everywhere.

and a big OOPS....TW no longer sells Babolat's regular synthetic gut. They just carry the SpiralTek version which is like Duraflex. But I would guess it's still available.

Before I got onto Kirschbaum's syn. gut, I was loving Tecnifibre for a while, but TW stopped carrying it. I stayed loyal to TW and started buying K-baum, but when they pulled the rug on their syn. gut I looked around and found reels of Tecnifibre through another store. Unfortunately I could only get the 17 ga. in black, but the 16 ga. was offered in black or natural (maybe gold?). No biggie aside from the coloring on the black version rubbing off on the strings just a little bit. I've seen worse.

The Tecnifibre SG seems to be rather close to the standard K-baum string, though probably not identical. I'm thinking that the K-baum was just slightly more soft, but I could be making that up. Gosen OGSM in the same gauge as these is definitely a notch or two more firm and crispy as far as I can tell, but I always have that string handy to use either for a basic durable full bed of SG or as a decent cross in a basic poly hybrid.

I think that if the Tecnifibre SG also disappeared entirely, I'd consider getting some Prince Original SG or maybe some Volkl Classic.

I tried Gamma SG in 16g in the crosses, poly main and I didn't like it. It felt too hollow for me. I'm thinking now about AK Power in 1.29, or should I give up on Gosen for a Kirsch SG replacement?

POSG is more comfortable and powerful than the other two but less spinny.

Do lightening XX and then you get the spinny as well. [emoji847]
