Is outdoor tennis for peasants?

OP, and let me guess, not before 10AM. You certainly have to have a proper breakfast, get your portfolio update from your financial planner, and bark out orders to the nannies, butlers, and grounds staff.

Nothing like a sunrise hit outside; clean ocean air.....

Arizona is the warrior state with only outdoor courts for the real, hardened players. Let those pasty, weak roayls sit inside while the dogs of war battle on the true fields.

Do you shout out "are you not entertained" when you finish them off?

I like them both for different reasons.

Nothing beats the precision and speed of indoor.

Nothing beats the hot sun and mild breeze of a nice outdoor court.

I will say I play mostly outdoor, indoor tennis around here (DC area) is more a problem of availability than cost.

Here in New England if you want to play a lot you have to play indoors. Even when it’s not snowy or icy it’s often wet or windy. The outdoor season really only goes from late May to October.

Only the mentally weak refuse to play in the wind or outdoors. Under 30 degrees is an acceptable excuse too unless it’s been under 20 degrees for two straight weeks.

A warmup to 25 degrees with a light southerly breeze is time to celebrate with outside tennis. Put on a toboggan, hoodie, under armor shirt, and some shorts and work up a sweat!

I can also excuse winds above 20 mph as long as the courts aren’t protected with either windscreens or natural protection such as trees.

The next biggest peasants other than the ones who perform manual labour tennis outdoors are the ones who play with trimmed fingernails and don't have bound feet.

If you don't have at least one foot bound and 4 inch long nails, you're a plebeian.

The indoor thing is for those with a lesser constitution or the tennis bourgeois - you know all the gear no idea crowd ;)- with their perfect whites, perfect balls and freshly strung rackets. Get them on a park court and its feeding time lol.
Or below zero temps, after 5 pm tennis with no lights, winter tennis, poor outdoor court surfaces, tennis after October 31st....................................the usual

Recall playing outside on Thanksgiving with a wool coat on, started snowing. Told everyone just don't let the balls bounce. Only the balls listened. They didn't

For those that shun the sunlight - just take a cool bag outside with you to keep the prawn sandwiches and chardonnay nicely chilled. You'll also get the added benefit of Vitamin D from the best source available, sunlight. Explains how this thread got started, Vitamin D deficiency does cause depression, fatigue, tiredness and muscle pain - all factors contributing to a negative skew on the world. Get some air, take a racket and go hit.

Played today in 20mph winds gusting to 45mph and strong sunlight. Isn't mother nature glorious.

I've done that many, many times. Some of our outdoor courts are like that due to geography.

My club is opening in June. I don't know whether or not they will be opening up the tennis courts right away.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for the courts, hope you get out to play soon. It was so good to be outside hitting balls. Whilst not perfect conditions you learn to play them which helps you in matches against players who avoid such weather. Very good for your footwork to as you have to adjust quickly to a few random balls and improvise some shot making. My squash shot wide forehand was useful when the wing blew it wide on the fh side and the slice equally so on the BH side. Serves were a joke so we played some hand fed stuff.

The worst thing about playing outside is playing next to 3.5s and 4.0s, I sometimes lose my appetite for playing tennis watching them.

My indoor courts have curtains between the courts so there are practically no balls that go into adjacent courts. Outdoors, there will always be some number of balls in the other court. You can do that with just an angled volley.

Are slams no longer technically outdoors? The stadiums reach so high up and have a small amount of lighting that’s natural, so technically yes/no? I’d say they aren’t anymore, especially AUS and USO.

First time getting a ball kicked back to our court after an angled volley. Of course let it roll onto the next court. Why **** off just four guys with a double or nothing move? KaChing!!!!!!!!

I’d never played on an indoor court until I travelled overseas as an adult. The weather in my country is too good.

You’d struggle to convince people to play indoors here, half the attraction of tennis is getting out in the fresh air.
Posted before, could not convince anyone to play on clay outdoors when they paid for an indoor hardcourt.

Chickasaw Park are public courts. Have several clubs with three, four, or five clay courts. Nightmare trying to access them with soooooooooooooooooooooooo many boomers.
I’d love to visit a clay court before I die, and I’m not planning on going to Europe to fulfill that dream lol. I just wish they more clubs knew a little about the friction or courts but what can they do? They aren’t exactly court experts like somebody from the US open is about the speed and friction of the courts.

I'm lucky enough to have 3 clay at my club. They are high maintenance but worth every second if you're a baseline grinder.
