Is Yonex Poly Tour Pro far more popular than PT Air, Fire, Spin, Strike?

For me, YPTP is the Honda Accord of tennis strings: it does everything ‘really good’, but nothing that wows you.

I get really good feel, good spin, good power, it doesn’t hurt my arm (strung at 48lbs), good tension maintenance, pairs well as a cross to natural gut. But...

You don’t walk away saying ‘holy crap! Everything I hit came in!’ or ‘wow, played 8 hours and the tension dropped only 5%’.

I tried Fire...meh. Tried Strike...not for me.

Of course, the fact that I can get it for around $90 a reel also helps...

Agree w @McLovin. YPTP is decent. I consider it a 1.5 generation co poly. Like 8/10 across the board.
Poly Tour Fire was disappointing. Very dead. Very stiff. Very meh. But super slick. Tried it as a cross but nothing to report besides meh.

Poly Tour Spin was good.
Poly Tour Drive is the best out of the bunch. Comparable to tour bite but better feeling.
Poly Tour Strike is an upgraded version of YPTP in terms of feel. Tremendous feel. I liken it to RPM Blast.
Air haven't used yet.

I’d agree that PTS is almost an upgraded PTP but not quite as soft. It still has a nice feel but it’s got a touch of something. Not quite sure what it is but I enjoy this string. I almost felt that with PTP, I got lost in the stringbed when the tension dropped. I don’t quite feel this with PTS. I’ve put in about 5 hours on PTS and it holds tension well.

I’ll agree with a post from about in regards to PTP just doing a lot well but nothing stands out apart from its smooth feel at impact. Just a solid string that I could use a lot. I’m just really enjoying PTS right now.

Tried it all

PTP is indeed the most popular and I always have it because it's good value and works great as a hybrid with PTSpin. For me, it's too mushy as a full bed or with other soft strings

PTA looks coolest but drops tension fast

PTF works great as a cross for almost anything

PTSpin is my favourite because it has the best control and spin in my opinion. Colour looks almost as cool as PTA too. I would use it with PTP or as full bed

PTStrike is strange. I find the grey has low power but the black has a lot of power. I've tried afew sets and like it as a hybrid with gut but wouldn't buy more because of the price

Agree that Poly Tour Pro is a great all around string that works well in every racquet. Doesn't blow my hair back but I know its going to be there for me in tight moments. Great control, good feel, good spin, good tension maintenance.

Poly Tour Air is just too soft for me. Too "Airy".

Poly Tour Spin is a great shaped string but lacks a little feel for my game. but better than most other shaped strings out there.

Poly Tour Strike has a tremendous feel to it and great "pop". When you lay into the ball and hit the sweetspot, it is truly something special. But if you don't hit the sweetspot, its too stiff with no free power. Poly tour pro is better in this regard.

Poly Tour Fire is my current string of choice in my Ezone 98 at 47lbs. Its got great control and a little more "zing" to it than poly tour pro. and I just enjoy the feel over poly tour pro. It has a little more spin than poly tour pro as well and call me crazy, but i think it is a little easier on the arm.

Cant go wrong with any of them!

Currently using PT Drive in mains with Rexis in crosses, 49lb and 52lb respectively in VCore 98.
This combo plays nice, plush feel and less harsh for my ongoing arm pain, good power with reasonable good bite/spin, but Rexis gets shredded real fast.

Poly Tour Pro is one of the most popular strings of any brand, let alone Yonex. Poly Tour Spin is also awesome and Poly Tour HS but Spin/HS are really designed for 1% of the rec tennis community (huge hitters who need control and control only) whilst PTP can play very well at many different tensions and in different frames. I currently use Poly Tour Fire as a cross with nat gut (only because it's slippery and has a silicone coating, otherwise I'd use PTP 120) and it seems to be a version of PTP with a little more crispness. Hope this helps.

I have recently tried poly tour pro yellow and black 1.25, and now poly tour strike 1.25. Hard to beat poly tour pro. Just a solid choice.

PT Spin - very underrated string, good control, spin, and tension maintenance, more comfortable than peers like Hyper G

PTP - extremely soft and comfortable, but I thought tension maintenance went out the window after two sessions, no control after that

PT Strike - great tension maintenance and control, very comfortable, not quite as much spin, overall my favorite

I loved Spin in the Xi98, but haven't found it suitable for other EZONEs. PolyTour Pro is my go to in an Ai/DR98, but it never felt great in the EZONE 98 2018 (used Fire in it). I'm liking PTP again in the EZONE 98 2020 (but I need to try out the other strings before deeming a go-to string for this generation). Strike worked well in the VCORE 98, but only lasted about a week and then drastically dropped in feeling. I never got behind HS (too stiff) or Drive.

Spin: very low powered, good control
Strike: indeed a bit like RPM blast but slightly less spinny, nice feeling if you also like RPM Blast, sort of pockets quite nice
PTP: never liked it from what I remember, people call it mushy and I understand what they mean

A hybrid of Spin and PTP that Ruud uses seems logical

-y.ptp is best IMO, comparable to lux.rough but better in many ways!!, specially tension maintenance for a med.soft-ish copoly; it feels like it also has texture, not really sure why??!!
-y.spin-G is another one of my favorites, testing now, lasting me a good while, softer IMO than yptp
-y.pt.FIRE(red), not a hughe fan, a bit too soft, great for the first few hours, then it changed, not worth the price IMO
-y.pt.STRIKE, not a fan of the crisp feel, great cross string though
-y.pt.REV, im liking so far, could be the 1.20mm gauges i got/tested, easy spin, cool color, might be my "orange summer favorite" (y)

-i have yet to try y.pt.SPIN and/or y.pt.AIR

Hello
Yonex Poly Pro Tour comes in three colors.
I know that yellow and black are slightly different.
How is the color blue?
Are yellow and blue the same?

Which one is more powerful yonex Poly tour pro or the Poly tour strike?
-YPT.PRO is more medium soft power poly, round is shape
-YPT.strike is on the "crisper" feeling side of a round poly

-but YPT.FIRE(red) is more powerful than either of these ^, not my favorite!, because it gets too mushy fast
-seemed to drop tension before the first set was over ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Interesting because I find Strike more dead/muted — do you use the black or grey version?

PT fire had amazing pocketing and feel for the first 1-2 hours.
seems in line with what most people say about it's short life.

PTP is good value, esp if you buy a reel

-i got totry the BLack only, y.pt.strike, 17g and 18g
-feels crisp and slick IMO
-i mean its not horrible feeling, but i like YPTP best!, and the color is nice too

Been using PTS since 2013 and still have found nothing better for my spin baseline game. Spikey black shark is pretty good but i have to cut it out after 3hrs.

I'm surprise of the fact that yonex has so many good round poly strings!
A while ago i played with the YPTP thinking it was a good string than covid came and all went to hell. I can't wait to try at least the strike!

Ah, smart. I hate the groove so much because my fingers have to sit on something flat — I have to take them all off and replace with a Head Hydrosorb.

I used to be the same way, but then I accepted the stock grips and have come to prefer it now.

PROTIP: The material of the stock yonex grip is soft, and will eventually rip from the adhesive of the overgrip. As well as leaving the adhesive behind.
Take a small piece of electrical tape / finishing tape, and place it where you plan to have the overgrip start.
This will allow the overgrip to be removed cleanly everytime.

On a side note, i noticed that adding weight to the hoop really affects the way the Yonex sticks feels. (tried on both ezone 98 2020 and vcore 98 2021)
Even as little as 1-2g felt more drastic than other brand racquets. Perhaps the isometric is more sensitive to weight?
Anyways been playing my yonex sticks at stock weight. They were all slightly underweight, so threw in a few grams in the butt to bring it to the listed unstrung weight.

Agree that it does do that. I recall that happening when trying to get used to the stock grip.

Interesting you note that personally about the head weight. I actually have always needed it because the stock frames usually lack stability in the EZONE line that I use. I do feel the sensitivity to small weight, but I’ve been more or less that way with all the frames I decide to mod. I’m very finicky as the user.

A lot of users of EZONE just need a leather and they’re set. I played a UTR 11 last night who just does that to his frame on the green / black version and calls it a day. Incredibly quick racquet head speed, but he loses some free plow for his serve with such a headlight balance.

before the EZ tour, i messed around with the regular 98 and different grips and weights. never felt quite right.
i find that modern racquets are surprisingly stable at stock weight.

Interesting. I just added weight at 12 to match my two 2020 EZONE. I don't think I feel a difference between the two.

Been going back and forth on Poly Tour Pro. I like almost everything about the string but I just find it maybe a half notch too mushy for my liking. Anyone have any recommendations on what plays similar but just a little less mushy? I actually don't mind a bit of muted and mushy response, but I'm looking for something just a bit less mushy than PTP.

I feel the same way about PTP. try poly tour fire. It's similar but stiffer/crisp.

Or try use poly tour spin on mains and poly tour pro for crosses. thats the combo I like the best

Solinco confidential 1.20. Similar but crisp. It is textured though.

PT Air (only 155 stiffness rating) is significantly softer than PTP; it’s a great cross string, especially for shaped poly mains/round poly cross poly/poly hybrids. I think it’s still only available in 1.25mm though.
@g4driver has posted extensively about his experiences with it, and in comparison with other soft polys, such as Isospeed Cream and Ghostwire.
Durability, especially of the multi crosses - although still ballpark for multi - notwithstanding, PT Air is also very nice as a main with, for example, white Volkl PFII crosses; if your arm can’t handle this set up, you should probably avoid poly altogether.
