Kyrgios is way too talented

Kyrgios is way too talented to not win a major. Big serve, incredible shot making ability , movement and x-factor of courage and creativity. If he is able to manage health (physical and mental), he will have a great career. Tbh, he is blessed with something unique and hopefully he realizes it and works towards specific goals.

Totally agree. Such a big game(to me definitely the biggest to have emerged over the last 10 years or so), and unbelievably entertaining to watch. His only limit lies in between his ears, but if he can fix that I'd be very surprised if he wasn't a multi slam winner at the end of his career. His potential is HUGE.

Like the food of his ancestral homeland(s)...
Niko is bold, flavorful, fresh...
And he
might be lamb, but he also might be goat. Tough to tell.
I can tell you, i used to dislike him. Now i openly root for him against all but dom, stan, marcos, rog, or jo. Here's to niko as a slam threat one day soon. I hooe niko can get a set off Rafito tomorrow.

Why? did that lame letter about his granny stir up my compassion for gauchebaggery in blogging? Do i have a soft spot for him because he seems like a nice leedle Grrrick boy? Why do i want to take him to church tomorrow, then read from the books of Arthur Ashe? Show this malaka a proper one handed backhand, and a platform stance serve like Pete Samprras? Come train with me, niko. I bring the loukoumathes.

Lol guys, he just made the final of a 500 event. That's it. Take it easy

You think this alone is what our claims are based on? Not all of us are senile bandwagoners that can only remember one week back. I for one certainly am not.

The kid's talent has been clearly obvious for me at least since the day he took out Rafa at Wimbledon at the age of 19.

yes, he did. But it's his game and the manner in which he plays. My comments are not based on what he has achieved so far. There is not much has done so far I think. It's all about what he has.

Zverev and Kyrgios would make a great no. 1 and no. 2 pairing. Kind of like Borg and McEnroe lite.

They do match up reasonably well with those old players, too. Kyrgios has ridiculous natural talent and is a total head case on the court. Zverev is (lately) much more reserved and plays exciting but also very steady tennis.

I think (hope) that Zverev's success will motivate Kyrios (who knows he's the better player) to do just that.

I think their head to head is all in Nicks favor and I do think Nick is a bit envious of Zverev and he wanted to show he is top dog.

question - has there ever been a "headcase" that's actually been able to turn things around? I hope I'm proven wrong but my theory is once nut always a nut.. some people compare him to agassi at the beginning of his career but I think agassi was pretty solid even at the beginning: top 3 ranking, winning multiple tournaments, GS finals, etc...

Not to the same extent, but Fed was alos a bit of a head case

Headcase is a complex designation. Niko qualifies, certainly.
So, like RF, to a completely different, mild extent of a headcase who managed a surge or three .... Stanislas Wawrinka.

I'm going to give Jo, Gael and Grigor another year to see if they can make good on this.

Depending on yur definitiion of headcase...Nolé made a nice career with tumultuous beginnings. All-time great now, but the guy was flailing around calling trainers, retiring left and right not too long ago. Headcase.

But Mac and Rios have got to be the Godfathers of this genre. McEnRios. Nick McEnRios. Ilie Nicetase.

It's funny that a guy who has achieved **** all and won a few matches against the top guys is being put on such a huge pedestal. He is 22, and has not reached a slam Semi Final and not even won a Masters Series title yet. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and even Murray had achieved much more at the same age. Zverev who is 2 years younger has won more big titles but yet he is somehow put down by the armchair experts of this site whereas this bozo whose excuse for every loss is that he wasn't fully focussed is hailed as a genius

So true. Especially given the fact that after EVERY win over a top player he then lost to a nobody, most of the times in the next match.

Lol Djokovic wasn't anywhere close to a headcase...he retired because he struggled physically but he was already No 3 and a slam winner by that time. Tsonga and Monfils are not coming close to winning a slam now and it looks unlikely for Grigor though he still has age on his side and I think he can win a couple. Let Kyrgios consistently put a good string of performances before overrating him like this

Wont even be a match, only fed can put an end to nadal.

They say nadal held fed back, i think its the other way.

Nadal is like Venus

as soon as someone wins couple of winnable matches , reaches later stage of tournaments , hits couple of flashy shots this kind of threads are popping up, one week it's Zverev ,the other Thiem,Shapovalov.. so why not Kyrgios, he is the one who has most wins against top guys. Internet people are desperate for hyping and gloryhunting

That's why i'm not starting my own thread on this match :p

If i was Zverev i would be bummed right now. He has a very professional approach to the sport, yet he loses to a guy who showboats, eats ice cream and plays too much basketball. Zverev didn't even manage to hit an ace.

This is only a 500 anyway, looking forward to the Shanghai masters where Shapo will be back :D

Actually Zverev was mad , did you see him smashing the racquet and his reaction when he DF at match point. Kirgyos made him look like average servebot without serve, even his BH fell apart lol .Today I'm fully expecting Nadal to make the same out of Nick
I think that large part of Kyrgios "I hate tennis, I don't care" attitude is acting due to his inability to cope with pressure of huge expectations in such tough individual sport as tennis is .

Yep, and Murray done all that with guys like Fed, nadal and Djoker at their best. Kyrgios cant do anything consistently against these guys being way past their best. Doesn't say much for his talent.

Watching Kyrgios today you have to wonder, how do people really believe this guy has the mentality required to win seven matches at a Major?

Some people do not realize how much of tennis is played between the ears.

If you are talking about talent, it's been very obvious from the start that he's very talented, but this thread was made fresh off a very impressive win against Zverev.
Unfortunately, he's a headcase and this couldnt be more obvious than right now when he's down a set and almost 2 breaks against Rafa on a fast HC

Agree. He could not get past the bad line call in the 1st game, and he let it affect him the rest of the set, constantly shaking his head. He will never reach the potential of his physical talents due to his mental weakness.

Today's performance is another evidence of his ability to win slams in the future.
Yes the score looks bad, but it was kyrgios who was dictating the way match was played. Nadal was just defending but did it very well. It was one struggle for Nadal and he is #1 in the world. Kyrgios was dishing out his shots at will. The match lasted more than 90 minutes. It was offense vs defence and Nodal is all time great defender.

Kryios like all the new "talent" has zero talent and will never win a slam - or maybe when NAdal is 40 and past it he might scrape a 5 set win past him, but by then some lad born in 2005 will be the next big thing since the current young guys are absolute dross that Id probably give a run for their money...

RIP Tennis

Brilliant talent as most will agree, fear for the guy mentally though. He needs to learn to deal with himself before he can deal with external factors.
What the answer is for him I don't quite know but if he leaves the stage with no major accolades in 10 years time it will be a travesty for tennis and for him.
The more I see him play the more I think this likely. He is almost the anti hero and seems to embrace it.
He may be the Big Lebowski of tennis. Which by the way gives him a certain Kudos in my book.

Absolutely. As I stated in my post, his head is a big issue for him and until he finds a way to fix that(which he might not even do ever) he's not going to achieve much. I think we both agree here. Doesn't keep me from hoping, though. When he's on he's a real pleasure to watch.

2 out of 7 matches don't win Majors............. you have to play like that for all 7 matches.

Nicholas Kyrgios is no better than Ernest Gulbis.

Both overrated.

Servebot prone to massive mental lapses. A better John Isner, no more.

So much unwarranted hate for this guy. Yeah he could win more but he plays the way he wants to and is more entertaining to watch than 99.9% of the other players on tour.

Has a loose arm and knows how to slap a ball with great power. Now if only tennis was won by hitting big shots.

And way too mental and emotional currently
This is, and has been, so true. At Wimbledon, when he wasn't allowed to change his socks, he threw the match. This evening in Beijing, having a break point at the very beginnig of the match with Nadal (serving), Nick broke down mentally. Why? The linesman made a mistake calling Nick's ball out. Sure that after the replay, Nick got another chance to convert his break point which he did not for his "feelings". He kept turning his head and complaining till he lost the game and 7 balls in a row. After Nick calmed down (at 2-2 I think), he realized that he couldn't see well enough. He went to the chair umpire to whine about the lights in the stadium which most likely caused him to lose his focus. My view of the Nadal-Kyrgios Beijing final is that Nick lost to himself at 2-2 in the first set as Rafa kept his cool (which he usually does) throughout the whole match. That's what separates Nadal and Federer from Kyrgios. Had Alex Zverev prepared his first service for the semifinal match against Nick Kyrgios better than he had, he would probably have handled Rafa more manly than whining Nick has on Sunday.

it looks to me he really doesn't have a desire to dig down deep when things aren't going his way.. not sure he can overcome that considering how he always says he's not that committed to the sport
