In your case, if probably go with the TW 1.3 grip. If it makes your grip too small, take the grip off and add a couple of lengths of duct tape to build the grip up and then put the leather back on. The duct tape will add a negligible amount of weight.

Oh the chance that it isn't enough weight off, what is even lighter than the TW grip? Preferably without reducing grip size too massively.

Thanks, Joohan! 15 years average lifespan for a cow, if you can believe the interwebs.

Cheers to a Czech from a full-blooded Slovak ( the poor relations to the East )

You're very welcome. Actually, I'm a full blooded Slovak too. Studied in Prague at the time I subscribed here and I'm too lazy to change it now (plus I change addresses far too often to be bothered...).

P.S.: Czechs like Slovakia very much (all the jokes about Czech people in High Tatras etc...) and they like Slovaks, too (especially our beautiful girls). Only sometimes they(certain individuals, to be precise) can't bear the fact that we are often smarter than they are and "take their jobs and places at universities".

I totally agree. I am a racquet junkie, and rotate between several racquets depending on my mood, and I have to say I don't like leather on all of my racquets. I like leather on the square shaped grips, like Prince, and Yonex, but I prefer synthetic on more rectangular grips like Tecnifibre and Head. I also like my racquets slightly more headlight than stock, which the leather grip helps with nicely without having to add lead to the handle. But, like Backhand Compliment said, I prefer the feel of leather on most racquets at the net and on serve, especially around the net. Sometimes I add a thick leather grip if I am feeling like a grip size might be too small, just to see what a slightly larger grip would feel like on a stick, before I (semi-) permanantly build it up with a heat shrink sleeve. Leather grips are also more durable than most synthetics. I've got a couple of old woodies than have the original leather, and I use them all the time without and overgrip. But, in serious match play, I always use and overgrip because I sweat too much.

Right now, I have been enjoying the Head Leather, they aren't too thick or too heavy and have been super consistent. TW's house brand are pretty good too, but I find them less tacky and stretchy than the Heads. Over the years I would often try Gamma and Pro Supex, because they are a few bucks cheaper than most other brands, but I always found them too bulky. Never bought Babolat or Wilson and installed them myself, but I've played with them and they good grips, I would say on par with the head grips I like, if not just a tad firmer feeling.

When I opt for a synthetic base grip, I usually go for something firm like Gamma Hi-Tec or Tourna Pro Thin

With Fairway grips always out of stock, what other brands of leather replacement grips would you recommend? I'm looking for consistency in width and thickness and of course pretty supple as well. Thanks in advance, Doug

I like Volkl leather even better than Fairway.

Volkl and Becker leathers are nice, but thicker and heavier than most, both of which can make them problematic

I've used Volkl and Fairway and prefer the Fairway; of course, these were Fairway prior to mad cow disease.

I like using leather just so it is much easier to feel the bevels for me. Gives me better control with my racquet. I can get a bit lost on grip sometimes

Leather grip has a very nice feel. Very scarce and hard to find. Same as proshop as more and more getting closed in Malaysia.

I just wrapped my precious PS 6.6 85 with Tourna Leather Grip. So nice feel. Cant wait to try it out tomorrow. Just a photo of before and after.

I sweat a lot and I like the combination of leather and tournagrip. . . along with a sack of sawdust in my tennis bag, and a wrist band. The sawdust is great stuff to have.

First the band gets wet, then the overgrip; the leather sucks up some moisture that gets through the overgrip, so that's a plus. I'll change overgrip at times.

Can't stand the smushy feel of so many plastic grips.

Everyone has mentioned really good leather. Don't sell yourself short and would add Pacific leather to the list. Good price, top notch quality.

For a bit more sweat absorbancy and less slip, do like Ivan Lendl ( and subesquently, me ) and wrap it suede-side out. The suede has more surface area, and can take the sweat.

Warning: the extra friction can and will cause blisters more than the smooth side...but IMHO, it's worth it. Has a nice feel once you get used to it. Like a Tourna-Grip on steroids.

Just received the Oehms leather grips....They are the same as the Head Finest Calfskin!!!! I got a couple black and a couple tan to try out!!! First one is going on my NOS LM Rad MP :) it is going to be beautiful!!!

Are they the same thickness? In the grip sticky thread, Head Finest Calfskin is 1.20 mm, whereas Oehms leather is 1.50 mm.

Thanks in advance to anyone that answers. I have a Yonex DR98 and it is well known that the Yonex grip-handle is bigger than most companies but the original grip they use is smaller. Is there a company that makes a thin leather grip? I would like to make the racket a bit more head-light and always preferred leather grips over the synthetic.

TW offers their own version of thin leather grip. There is also Kimony.

@NastyWinners Kimony Techni Leather is your answer if you want the thinnest possible leather grip 0.8mm

@Slapper I haven't experienced that, the over-grip lasts just as long as any other leather grip I have used. Also, maybe the really old Head Calfskin grips were 1.20 the current generation are pretty much identical to OEHMS leather

Thank you. That’s helpful.

I've only used Tourna's leather grips, and I've been satisfied with it. Seems thin and allows one to feel the shape of the bevels.

I read somewhere that the Kimony Techni doesn’t absorb much moisture, so it causes the overgrip to become slippery quicker.

Can anyone confirm?

It’s really thin, so I 8magine, it could happen. It’s probably safer going with the TW private label thin leather grip.

The TW leather grips seem to go dark brown and smooth, or a miniscule bit slippery (to me).

The tecnifibre leather grips are nice, tad thinner, and they keep their texture, or that bit of grab on the surface.

I use them with no overgrip. It's only a problem in summer with sweat/slipperiness

Why not give them a treatment with leather wipe or moisturiser to try and keep them more supple?

Has anyone here used any of the RP NY (Roman Prokes) leather grips? Obviously he's a legend in the industry so I would assume he has quality leather grips, I'm just not sure if anyone has used them before and what they thought.

Added leather grips to my Babolat Pure Drive Plus, promptly had one of my teammates mention that it makes no sense to do that. "Pure Drives are a super modern racquet, it doesnt need leather grips" he is my age minus the affinity for feel or good taste so I cut him some slack.

What's the difference between OEHMS Premium and Pro leather grip? 15EUR vs 12EUR from their website. Weight/length/thickness all look the same.

I have some RP NY leather grips on my C10 Pro Tour racquets. I like them very much.

For sure. Bike analogy is that leather bar grips were the rage on old school classic steel bike and they are also an improvement on the new carbon fiber bikes, IMO. Many new bikers have not tried just because the new syn bar wraps are pretty nice.

I don’t know the difference but I love the premium, excellent quality.
Thanks. I don't mind paying the extra since the leather grip is gonna stay with the racquet for a long, long time. However, looks like the Premium version only comes in black colour :/

Does the TW leather look similar than the Oehms?

TW leather grips are very good. First thing I do with a new racquet is replace with a leather grip (I prefer head light racquets). Leather grip pulled tight accentuates the grip bevels.

The thing that's a shame is the fact you can't get a picture of a TW private label on a tennis racket to see how it looks.

Lately I’ve been liking Kimony Techni since I play with an overgrip. The bevel definition and firmness are off the charts, and the smaller grip size lets me flare my butcap and still have my hand around the rest of the handle. I used finest calfskin before kimony and they were great as well. They add a little more weight and give a thicker, more dampened feel.
