What do people think here? Not sure much has changed but Nadal is a proud, proud champion and might have one good match in him to get revenge for the beating he took on a court named after him.

Wait what happened to the thread for this match which was rightly calling out the rat pusher for his visually offensive tennis? At least there is another one now so I can do it here instead. De Minaur out ASAP pls, Nadal in 2

De Minaur in a very straight foreward 2 I think. All Rafa's first match told us is that his opponent is not ready for the big stage and companies with money shouldn't be deciding wildcards.

I'm going with Rafa in straights. He deliberately was holding back in Barcelona against Di Minaur, not giving more than 70%. If Rafa ups it to 80's, he wins fairly easily. And Nadal already said he was going to give more physical effort in Madrid.

A Nadal at 60% would be enough to finish off rivals like De Minaur on clay.
Is he?

Vital match for Nadal. No one is going to take his come-back seriously anymore if he loses twice in a row on clay against a guy who hates this surface and played like 19 finals but 0 on clay. He isn't even injured according to him... he isn't at his best and he's still dealing with issues but he's fit enough to play, so... I don't think he would play if he didn't think he could win this kind of matches. De Minaur lost in 2 sets against Djokovic who played his worst match of the week in Monte-Carlo. He received a beatdown against Fils in Barcelona. He is just not that dangerous on clay. His ranking #11 is well-deserved but on clay he is hardly a top-50 player. Nadal losing to Tsitsipas, Zverev, Ruud, Rune or Sinner would be encouraging, but not De Minaur...

I think Nadal should win this one. Conditions are more favourable and there is the element of revenge too.

There’s no such thing as a “vital” match for a near 38 year old.

Honestly, I've got no idea - how can anyone know outside of Nadal's camp, maybe - but I have a feeling Rafa can win this, IF he can go for more on his serve, which he's been holding back on.

But I think Rome will be where he'll go full in, either way (as much as his body allows).

He didn't just lose to AdM, he got smoked. I can't imagine he will just flip a switch
The opposite actually, De Minaur was a couple of points from losing the 1st Set, which took 67 minutes, 7-5.
Nadal doesn't even have to improve to win the 1st Set.
De Minaur only won because it was Nadal's 2nd match of his comeback...

How many people have hung a breadstick on Nadal in a deciding set on clay?

In order to keep up the air of invincibility, the great man and his fans are now saying "He only lost because he tanked"

Vamos Rafa

Also @ the mods or whoever closed my original first thread on this… all I have to say is… SAWFT.

De Minaur actively chooses to sport a Hitler mustache. It is a choice he makes every morning when he looks in the mirror. It is his and his alone. So yeah, I won’t be tricked into believing he’s a good guy.

After Nadal's 1st Round Barcelona victory over Flavio Cobolli he said he was saving himself for Madrid and Rome-
“There were things [I could have done] today that [could have given] me the possibility to play better today, but don’t give me the possibility to play the next day or the next couple of days, or in terms of weeks, in Madrid or Rome."
See at the beginning of a comeback, its not a good idea to rush or skip steps in your return to form.

The fans are really going to cheer hard in this one and ADM will feel it, they all know he beat him in Barcelona.

Roof closed, advantage AdM
Nadal's never lost on clay indoors... and he schooled Djokovic 60 62 75 in the 2020 RG Final indoors.

And now we are cooking! Rafa has already hit more forehands in this match than the last match.
