Five sets in men's tennis at slams is everything! Nothing beats watching a five setter with all the twists and turns.
Three sets can also be good, but it's an entirely different contest.
Still, yes, for Federer it would help him out.
Btw, getting rid of them in the Masters is one reason why I think Next Gen haven't broken through. They just don't have enough experience of a big five set match.

it would make sense to shorten matches a bit somehow, but best of five is much betterer at bringing the top players through without an upset. So it tends to make for higher quality at the end of the event over a Masters 1000.

We can tinker with best of five, but bottom line you don't want to go full tiebreak lottery or something as that ruins its favoring the highest quality players to win.

I'm a Tennis Classic Fan, not a fan of Fast 4 or Ultimate Tennis Showdown on the actual tour.

But, I wonder if to keep the sport popular do we have to make some concessions to avoid it going to Fast 4?
I might be able to swallow:
Tie Break at 5-5 instead of 6-6.
No toweling between points.
Make Lets faults.
Play just one deuce.
Replace line judges when possible with Hawkeye.

Would this slow the decline of Tennis Classic or speed it up? I'm not sure.

Across the sporting world, people except for die hard fans don't seem to watch full sports, just highlights or near the end of events.
I could see people watching a 2 hour match if it was once a week (something like football), but to really watch a tourney now you need to invest several hours in a week.
Maybe tennis needs better highlight shows or better editing of matches in a 1 hour format at the end of the day or beginning of the next?

I agree. The antiquated scoring system should also be amended to award points for artistic merit, like in rhythmic gymnastics (outfit, exertion yell, pose at end of shot, etc). Roland Garros shouldn't even be played with a ball, it should be like a combination Air Tennis/fashion show/Mr Olympia pose down type thing.

Never!! We would no longer see legendary matches like were the finals of Wimbledon 1980, Wimbledon 2008 or Australian Open 2012. We would be impoverished about epic turnovers, like were the final of the French Open 1984 or the semi final of the US Open 2011.

The score is irrelevant with tennis, 70-68 taught us that. Compacting quality of the product could be beneficial.

Its cool to see djok and nadal 20ft behind the baseline runnin like greyhounds, but this is tennis. We expect skill, not endurance
