Minus their best surface, who's the greatest?

Federer minus grass;
Nadal minus clay;
Djokovic minus hard.

Probably been debated but I didn't see it. Who's the best if you take away their best surface?

This test skews matters to Federer as the grass season is short and he is excellent on the ubiquitous hard.

Given where Nadal has his hand before serving, I'm not sure the image of Nadal flinging poop is one we want in our minds as we watch our screens.

Cover everything with tarps, because vamos will be here soon to start flinging poop like planet of the apes

Nadal is the only one of the three to win multiple majors on the surfaces he doesn't favour.

Federer is the only one of the three who has failed to beat both of the others on their favourite major surfaces..

Why you would do that doesn't make sense, but yes it's true that if you remove Nadal's best result, Federer and Djokovic' are better, but still...
Nadal on Clay > Federer on Grass
Nadal on Grass > Federer on Clay
Nadal on Clay > Djokovic on Hard
Nadal on Hard > Djokovic on Clay

Agreed that life doesn't work this way. But, it's raining here and I'm bored. I thought it might make a fun debate. :unsure:

Perhaps thinking about this in a slightly different way might produce a more robust debate and better reflect real life. Who's the second best Grass, Clay and Hard court player? Or, rank Federer, Nadal and Djokovic on each of the major surfaces.

This has been debated before ... wait for the vb storm (currently they must be drooling over the sight of their god as he wins another one on his best surface).

Um, Joe has won 5 Slams away from HC. #realitycheck.

How about we count the titles won ??

Tennis is not about h2h and more so irrlevabt between players with 5-6 years age difference

Technically, the legendary Spencer Gore is correct in the sense that he feels Rafa does not favor HC (he has 4 overall) AND Grass (he has 2).
For Djokovic and Federer, they don't favor Clay (and have only 1 each here) which also implies that they excel at 2 surfaces.
In a way, it is an admittance that Rafa is a surface specialist (as he has only one surface which he does favor). There's nothing wrong with that.

Difference is Rafa has two times a year to win on hard courts, Fed and djoker have one a year to when on clay. So over 15 years that is 30 chances for Rafa and 15 for Fed and djoker.

I can tell you who the worst is lol.

Probably a toss up between Fed and Djoker, slight edge Fed maybe
