I agree with competitive eating. I remember watching a news report once where some eaters were saying they wanted to be recognized as professional athletes!!!!:shock: HUUHHHHHHH?????

Cant believe GOLF hasnt been mentioned yet!!!! I hate how tennis and golf are bracketed together !!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is this? Apart from one being fast paced and one being slow paced, tennis and golf are remarkably similar.

Mainly individual sports (save for doubles), heavily momentum-influenced, and one must be very strong mentally in order to be good at either one. Also, it is very, very easy to tinker with different equipment if something goes wrong, or just for fun, in both sports. In tennis, it's adjusting strings, tension, grip, frames, lead. In golf it's heads, lofts, shafts, flexes, etc. And believe it or not, it is much, MUCH worse in golf. There are people who are willing to spend upwards of $1500 for a golf driver, which they'll hit AT MOST 14 times per round of golf. Can you imagine paying $1500 for a tennis racquet, and only hitting it 14 times every time you go out to play?

Also, as you've so ignorantly shown, people who don't play them think both are not sports!

PS - If you can't tell, I'm an avid golfer, as well as tennis player, and don't like when people criticize things they don't really know that much about.

ESPN broadcasts the spelling bee? That wins the "most ridiculous sport" hands-down. It's not even a game. It's a memory test. why not broadcast people reciting "pi" to however million digits???

Curling.

I mean, seriously, what on earth can possibly be more pointless and boring than curling? It's just a bunch of guys frantically sweeping the ice with a bunch of brooms in front of the puck-thing. What's next? Competitive vacuuming?

You can't be serious. Curling is awesome!

Poker
Spelling bee

Why does ESPN broadcast these events?

Because ESPN is run by a bunch of men who would classify nose picking or distance urination as a sport as long as it means listening to the sound of their own voices. Poker is a game and a spelling bee is a competition.

Competitive eating (gross)

That is no more a sport than toenail clipping. At least with toenail clipping we are spared the grotesque sight of grown men (many obese) gorging themselves. Gluttony at it's worst!

the league is called dwarf tossing

They are called LITTLE PEOPLE!

Curling.

Spoken like a true southerner. What you don't understand or can't do, you insult. Boooooo!

Chess boxing has got to be up there.

Poker is not a sport. I do realise that a big tounnament like the WSOP main event could be several hours of play over several days. Nonetheless, I can't call it a sport, particularly with the amount of luck involved.

Hunting is a stupid sport, if it is a sport. Men with small ***** getting their thrills killing animals. I understand the thrill of the hunt, so why can't they just painball them?

Second. Can you imagine training for years to be the broom guy?

As far as competitive eating, I don't know if any other eating event is televised other than the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition, but that's become a 4th of July tradition for me to watch.

I think it's fascinating to watch eaters like Sonya "Black Widow" Thomas who only weighs 105lbs, yet was able to put away 41 hot dogs. She holds the record for eating 65 hard boiled eggs in under 7 minutes. If you've ever seen the movie "Cool Hand Luke" it was huge deal for Luke to eat 50 eggs in an hour.

I can't stand WWF or whatever its now called. Its disgusting that they show it on sports channels.

Polo? that one especially sucks. I remember I was dragged to a match when I was a kid, and every one in a while you hear the horses slamming the ground with their feet, then they turn around and chace the stupid ball to the other side of the fiel which is soooo far away. Talk about ridiculous..........

I would agree with most of these...except Ballroom Dancing. If you think about just dances like the waltz, foxtrot and slower styles yes it can look rather ridiculous. But Ballroom Dancing also includes dances such as the Cha Cha, Mambo, Jive and in some competition West Coast Swing and all of the dances that come with that. Dancers are extremely athetic, the men especially for all the lifts they are expected to be able to do and the women, especially in the latin division are in pretty good shape to, need to be to be able to do those fast paced dances that they do. You can say only dancing for 90 seconds or 2 minutes isn't an athletic feet, but a championship caliber jive routine can be draining...ask the people who do dancing with the stars just how challenging and difficult it is, and they do very simple versions of all the dance styles (no lifts, no complicated footwork) and they struggle..including athletes like Monica Seles, Emmit Smith, Kristi Yamaguchi...etc. Maybe defining it as a sport can be pushing it..but there is not way to deny the athleticism ballroom dancing involves.

My Personal picks:

Poker (I love poker...but it is not a sport)
Fishing
Competitive Eating

According to Seinfeld: the biathlon and looge.
Some of the events in the Olympics don't make sense to me.
I don't understand the connection to any reality...
Like in the Winter Olympics they have that biathlon.
That combines cross-country skiing with shooting a gun.
How many alpine snipers are into this?
Ski, shoot a gun... ski, bang, bang, bang...
It's like combining swimming and strangle a guy.
Why don't we have that?
That makes absolutely as much sense to me.
Just put people in the pool at the end of each lane for the swimmers...
And that other one that I love is the looge
When the guy wears this slick suit...
This is on the bob-sledge run, but it's not even a sledge.
It's just Bob.
It's just a human being hanging on for their life.
This is the whole sport.
"Oh, he pointed his toes. Oh, this guy's a tremendous athlete."
The looge is the only sport that I've ever seen
that you could have people competing in it against their will
If they were just grabbing people off the street...
"Hey, hey, hey... what is this?"
"I don't wanna be in the looge."
You put the helmet on,
you wouldn't really hear them screaming...
You'd just... "You're in the looge buddy."
World record.
Didn't even wanna do it.
I wanna see that event next year: 'the involuntary looge.'

I have nothing against Curling. Sure it can be boring to watch. But I think it is more of a sport or at least equal to Ice Dancing, and Ice Skating. Or any other event that requires judges to primarily determine the winners and such.

I would actually like to try curling, as it looks like it would be 10 times better to do than watching it.

curling is as much a sport as darts, billiards, and its "summer" quasi-equivalent petanc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZkZnC91eOY

it looks like it would be fun to play at times but a sport???

winter olympics are kindof a joke, there are only a few events that can really be considered a sport, and only a handful of nations can participate.
