Too many drop shots from Baggy, didn't really look like he was going for his shots. I mean, if your going to beat Nadal, you don't let him dictate and push you 10 ft (3m) behind the base line and run your ***. Baggy needed to attempt to dictate more, even if the higher risk meant a few more errors.

:(
really disappointing... without these big laps of concentration, he had it in the racquet... too much passivity too, probaby...
and this serve... 47% of 1st serve and 8 DF, that hurts. :(

now andreev... you have to do again what you already did on clay ! ;)

VAMOOOOOOOOS! :D

Nadal d. Baghdatis 3-6 6-2 6-3

Nadal was in control of the match after the 1st set, he played well on the 2nd and the 3rd. I´m happy for him and for all the haters out there ;)
Nadal leads 3-0 now...and they didn´t play on clay yet!

By the way, Baghdatis made 8 DF but 16 aces too. He was agressive with his serve because he knew Nadal was controlling the game from the baseline most of the times. So his DF were not a matter of luck.

This is the kind of game that i hate to see Baghdatis play (i didn't actually see it, thankfully, i was just listening on the radio and only caught the 3rd set). It just gets on my nerves. How could he let Nadal break his serve in the 3rd set when he was 40-15 up?!!!! And 8 DFs?!!! WTF?!!

It might have been a difficult match, but when you are 1-0 up and you have the chance to get rid of the second best player in the tournie this early on you make sure you take full advantage!!

He's just so consistently inconsistent and quite often painful to watch.

Rant over.

just give him some more time mario,it's not that he hasn't improved tremendously since last year..patience my friend ;) please don't be like the typical football fans that when their team suffers a big loss they kick the coach out and ask for a new president,eh?;) He has made some very good steps regarding concistency and he;s far more serious with his game now.

You're right about my football mentality, i'm afraid. I'm not very patient.

I just hate to see the same thing repeat itself over and over again. It's almost like he doesn't have any control over his fate in this kind of big matches. Like whatever happens he's destined to lose or something. It's frustrating.

We'll see what happens i guess. Hopefully he can win another tournament or two and then do reasonably well in the French Open.

Well sad to see Baghdatis still shows such weak mental game. He chokes and loses his composure and plays a super bad last two sets for monkeyface to win. Who cares though, Nadal's luck will run out whenever he plays Berdych who will overpower him like always.

hoho if he wins a couple of tournaments since the FO,then you know that he will be back well into the top 5,no?;p and mario, don't expect too much for the FO,because you will get dissapointed I am afraid..:( clay is not a good surface for Marcos, infact it's his worse.Except much for Wimby and USO but for FO,better..not so much.

ναι,και μου είπε κι ένας φίλος από την Κύπρο πως μετά ειδικά το ΑΟ,οι περισσότεροι τον έχουν ξεχάσει και ακόμα και τον βρίζουν όταν χάνει..Τι να πω.. όχι πως εδώ είναι καλύτερα βέβαι..γιατί εδώ ούτε καν τον ξέρουν! lol but When you are a fan you are a fan.I know in your heart you are good fan!;) it's just the football upbringing!;p

Nice job by Baghdatis. He finally won a set off Nadal. It's better than losing in straight sets again....maybe he'll win 2 sets next time.

I can´t believe how many people (Fedfans) in here actually thought Baggy would win this match. So much for hopeful thinking.

Nadal played awful in the first set, but raised his game in the last 2 sets (didn't faced another BP) while Baghdatis couldn't put enough first serves in. Baghdatis had 100% first serves won in the first and over 80% for the whole match, but if you just serve 47% first serves you'll lose. Still it shows that Nadal isn't a good returner on fast courts, but if he can get a second serve he'll has every chance to win the point.
Will be interesting to see how he'll play against Andreev. Nadal should win, probably in 2, maybe in 3. Andreev isn't in good enough form yet after his long injury break, but look out for him during the clay season. He's still the last man to beat Nadal on clay.

This puts the end to all doubters that rafa cannot play on fast courts. rafa just beat one of the best fast court player in the world and looked pretty comfortable doing it. How do you answer that doubters ?

I guess I do not really qualify as a doubter, maybe that's why I do not understand your question.

But I am not surprised at the final score of this match, if that means anything.

Raf is one of the best players in the world, period. On clay, hard grass or ... glass. He's just had an injury or two and he's got a very physical game. Bad combination.....bad few months since Wimbledon. What is the big deal? Who is doubting?

Granted, some of us may have been rooting for Marko. That is not doubting. That is rooting.

No actually this forum is full of people(you not one of them) who makes statement such as rafa is a topspin monkey who can only win on clay, rafa is helpless against federer on hard courts, rafa is not even a top 50 player on hard courts and so on and so on.

Rafa still has a taxing game.It almost took him 2 hours.I wanna see Rafa vs Fed in the final, the more matches against Nadal leading up to RG, the better for Fed, not to mention the 2 in a row against Nadal.

The most exciting thing about Nadal - which I noticed from the start - was how he is able to come back form being one or two sets down. Who wants to see a win in two or three straight sets? He is never really predictable and this is what makes his game watchable. Borg was often a set or two down and came back and boy was it great to watch.

This is yet another amazing justification for admiring a player....

"I like player X because they usually lose a set or maybe two and then win".... each to their own, I guess.

I didn't think Baggy would win it. But I confess that I wished that Baggy had won it. My wish has to do with the simple reason that I like to watch Baggy's game much more than Nadal's.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Federer. In fact, this result is also OK because a Federer-Nadal final is still possible, and I like to see that match-up as well. I can't believe how readily you choose to bring Federer into the mix. "Federer fan" does not have to be synonymous with "Nadal hater". If you only bothered to look, you might find a few posters who like tennis enough to look beyond the black-and-white division you repeatedly offer.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, not so fast there. "Possible" is the key word here. He still has to get past Berdych/Youzhny in the 3rd round. Can't just write him into the final just yet. And I think I may go with Youzhny because he his playing some darn good tennis now. I mean he took Ljubicic out in straights his last tournament.

That was why I chose my words carefully :). I just said that Federer-Nadal is possible. I didn't write that there are going to meet. I'm too bad with predictions to risk a statement like that!
