When do we expect them?

First week of December?

Let's gather all our data points and such in one place.

Should be a doozy.

Yes, should be on/around 12/1. Does that mean morning of? Night before? Night of? My guess is the night before, but we'll see!

I think most like 99% of the players will retain their same rating. This year on most part is a washout. Also all those teams that won the nationals should have asterich behind it saying this is Covid year championships

I don't know if everyone got the same email from their section but we (MAS) have 50% of rating comes from post-season matches if there are more than 3 post season matches on record. I think I'm right on the edge of a 4.5 bump and I ate some really good loses at regionals. I feel like I have a root canal appointment on Dec 1st.

Is this a recent change or always been there ? I didn't know that or saw any emails regarding this. So eating all those bagels after Regionals might not affect the ratings as much ?

You're upset about not being promoted to 4.5?

I know they are doing it for this year.

I went 2-6 in postseason 4.0 matches (and one of the wins was vs. a 3.5/3.5 pair ), so I'm likely closer to being bumped down than bumped up. I did have a nice run at 4.0 tourneys this year (6-0 in singles; 5-1 in doubles with the lone loss being a retired loss being up in games), but I have no idea how much weight the Section gives to tourney results.

I don't think it's a recent change. Here is a document from another section circa 2008 that explains the weighting: http://assets.usta.com/assets/558/Microsites/dps/usta_master/usta/doc/content/doc_90_106.pdf

Also, @BallBag said his losses were at Regionals, not after.

Yes - I was referring to myself eating some bagels after Regionals. I tend to do well there. No one likes the 90+ degree matches at noon down in VA Beach - but a bit of suffering is part of life. :)

I'm really curious to see how I shake out. I'm assuming I'm a goner, but maybe there is hope I scrape by at 3.5.

What really hurts me is I spent 6 months in another state for work and at first the only captain that would let me on his team was 4.0 captain. So I played a bunch of 4.0 matches. Then when I came back home my club needed help at 4.0 so I had a few big wins there. But I was terrible at one district, great at another district then 2-2 at sectionals. Hopefully the fact my last 16 matches were at 3.5 helped drop my rating some. Before districts, Schmke had me around 3.6 so probably not.

I am also curious how my rating will turn out.
I’m in the race to qualify for tournament nationals at 3.5M 18&O singles. Currently ranked 3rd in my section. But, I have a high rank because I traveled and played in a lot of tournaments, not because I am dominating.

2021 tournament record is:
3.5 Singles: 18-18
3.5 Doubles: 0-3
3.5 Mixed: 1-2
4.0 Singles: 1-1

2021 Leagues record
3.5 Singles: 1-0
3.5 Doubles: 2-1

Depends on your region. Many regions do not take tournaments into consideration for a C rating. Maybe a T rating. Too many players have used tournaments to tank their rating.

You have *just* enough matches in league to even qualify for a C rating this year ...

I don't care much about my ratings anymore and I found a nice spot of competitiveness for now in 4.0 leagues. What I am curious to see is how dynamic ratings are effected by any mass bump or adjustment. More so, how all the SRs pan out and play into things. As mentioned in another thread, just saw a sweep of some SRs and high rated C players (who should have been been up a rating) get DQ'd in our 4.0 league.

That number seems a little high for retaining the same level. I guess it could depend on the section.

I wonder when they will stop counting new matches. In our area we have early start leagues and prolific players like myself already have 5 to 10 matches played for the ”2022” league season — but some of those usually still count for the 2021 rating.

Some have said 10/31 and others said 11/14

Does 2020 results count? I went 19-4 in singles (4.5 & 5.0 tourneys & flex league) in 2020 and then 8-5 in mixed & doubles (8.0 & 4.5 leagues & tourney - 1, 3 set singles loss) for 2021. Wondering if my losses this year will hinder the bump?

I would encourage everyone to pay for @schmke to do his Estimated Dynamic NTRP report for you, at least one time. His stats are more accurate than anything available for free. He puts together a nice graph showing how each match has impacted your dynamic rating, and I found it both interesting and educational to get a sense of that. I was just looking back at the 'report' from a few years ago when I advanced to sectionals. It was wild to see how a tight win against some very good opponents actually dropped my rating, but another win against a far weaker (in reality, not rating) team launched the rating up.

For what it's worth, the doubles team sucked because they had a guy who was clearly a singles specialist, and his game didn't translate well to doubles.

I also really enjoyed the breakdown of matches by doubles partner. That requires a good # of matches for the results to be meaningful, but I love the analytics behind it. I figure the NTRP is going to annoy you in all kinds of ways, take whatever enjoyment you can get from it.

11/14 might be the earliest ever release.
That’s the cutoff date for matches that count for those of us in early-start leagues, not the ratings release date.
What he said. Cuttoff, not release date.
You get emails from your LC like that?
It was a long email about upcoming leagues and what not, but there was a small paragraph stating that new ratings would come out 12/1 and that the cutoff is 11/14.

2019: I was a bench warmer with a losing record that played on a very successful 40s 4.5+ National team.
2020: I didn't play any USTA League or tournaments.
2021: I only played two USTA matches all year, a close win and horrible loss, in doubles.

My USTA membership expired in October and I've felt no need to renew. With no membership and only two matches since 2019, I'm not sure what the computer is going to do. I'm assuming I'll stay at 4.5, but maybe it won't generate anything and I'll have to self rate to get back in someday.

Right now, I'm unhappy with many of the changes that have happened in USTA League and I'm not particularly motivated to participate anymore. Having won literally hundreds of League matches over the many years (I'm old) and been on a team that made it to the top, I guess I have nothing left to prove. I only played on a team this year because a good friend of mine begged me to join since he was short on players. I didn't care too much, but felt like we got screwed by losing only one team match all season (we were 5-1 against other teams) but losing out on going to Sectionals because another team had more points from individual matches than us (they were 3-3 and we beat them). This kind of BS only strengthened my disdain for the USTA.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with tennis in the next few years. I still love the game and occasionally play really awesome between injuries. However, in my personal life, I recently got a promotion at work that is sucking up a bunch of time and I'm also attending grad school to finish my PhD. So basically, tennis is great, but it's not the most important priority for me right now. My kids are almost all grown up, so when I finish my doctorate, maybe I'll take a high paying gig somewhere else where it's sunny and nobody knows who I am. Maybe I'll move to Houston or Salt Lake City and join a 3.5 or 4.0 team under a new name.

Wonder if I'll have a rating this year. I played 8 Tri-level matches between 11/1/19 and 3/1/20 (half in 3.5/4.0/4.5 and half in 3.0/3.5/4.0 league, though 2 of the latter were with/against S rates), along with a number of mixed matches, and then nothing until this summer when I did a USTA flex league.

The flex matches never count, and mixed doesn't count unless you have only mixed. I'm never sure if Tri-level are counted or not (located in Middle States section). I think they must because I ended up with a year end rating in 2019 even though I also only played mixed and tri-level, but those were all in a 3.0/3.5/4.0 league.

How many of you are on the border of being bumped and nervous for the announcement, vs being in the middle of your rating range with no suspense or excitement?

I can't wait. The whole process is great and pure entertainment everyone it happens. You have folks that are angry they got bumped and frantic to appeal down vs. ones that feel the algorithm has to have made a mistake because they should have moved two levels up.

So I'm safely in the middle but I'm nervous for what bumps will do to my men's team and to the 8.0 mixed team I captain.

The captain of the 8.0 mixed team I am on forwarded an email from the league coordinator saying cutoff for matches counting is 11/14, and ratings will be released at midnight on 12/1 - everyone set an alarm on your phone! ;)

I'm solidly in the middle of my level, but very interested to see what happens with a few individuals in my district.

I think I’m on the border. Some people on my team think I’m getting the bump to 5.0, some don’t. It’s hard to say because I played a lot of postseason and did well. Definitely excited for the announcement.

for me it’s a bit of a win-win. If I don’t get bumped I get to play 4.5 another year and I think I will do very well. If I do get bumped then I get some bragging rights and try my hand at 5.0 again.

Are there 5.0 leagues in your area?

Looking at the ratings on TR it looks like a large number of 4.5 players in my area would get bumped down. How sticky are the ratings as most of the ones that look to be below the 4.5 cutoff are truly 4.5 caliber players?
