Phone recommendation?

So unfortunately, my iPhone got stolen while playing basketball yesterday so now I need to get a new one, and I don't want to spend that much, so getting another iPhone is out of the question. The iPhone was the first smartphone I've ever owned so I honestly know nothing about current phones on the lineup today. I'm open to any carrier (Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, etc.) but I'd like the phone itself to be $150 or less. I don't need a phone that can run fancy apps extremely well, I just want a phone that does the basics but does them very well (simple web browsing, video/pictures, GPS/Navigation, Facebook).

Any recommendations?

I think you can get a Droid 2 for reasonably cheap and I have found it to be an outstanding phone.

The web browser in particular is really smooth and fast, plus flash support.

Get a phone with no features. Otherwise, the battery will be dead when you really need to make a call.

I thought those iphones have software so you can track a stolen phone.

You can go on e bay for an old phone. iphone 3 should be cheap.

What features DO you want? i.e. Physical keyboard?

Do you mind going on contract to get it?

You can get some awesome smart phones for little money if you go on contract and use a reseller like Amazon Wireless, Wirefly, or Letstalk.

Don't overlook Windows Phone 7 as well.

If you consider integrating with enterprise email services like Microsoft Exchange it is by far the best platform.

For other purposes, Android may offer you more options.

I've been looking into it as well, anybody have any experience with it? I asked two of my friends and they warned me explicitly not to get a Windows phone but I don't even know how much experience they have with the device but after reading about it it looks like it would suit me perfectly. Android seems very cluttered and slow to me..so far I've read that a lot of their phones from Verizon also come loaded with unremovable software unless you root/jailbreak the phone, which is something I don't want to go through. I just want a super simple phone, which the iPhone was but I don't really want to buy another one. I hear Windows is also coming out with a new batch of phones soon, but no pricing or release date is currently available.

get an iPhone, WITH INSURANCE, and chalk it up to experience.

going from an iPhone to anything else will be a long and frustrating road.

Second that. Using an IPhone for 3 years now, I recently got a friend's Samsung galaxy in my hand... after playing with it a few hours I decided to never ever buy anything else but an IPhone.

Everything seemed so slow, lacking something one cannot describe. It's like comparing a Mercedes with a VW.

Yeah, it's why I've been wanting to get Windows phone since it also seems pretty simple like the iPhone...but I wish I just still had my iPhone. I have enough money to get another iPhone but I really don't need anything powerful for advanced apps so I just want a cheap phone but I don't want my phone to fall behind in technology to the point where doing simple things seem very slow, like all of my friends' droid phones seem to be doing...

At this point I'm either going to wait for the iPhone 5 or one of the new Windows phones to come out.

What about saving some bucks by buying a used 3GS or a 4?
I still have my 3GS which is capable to cover all my needs. And I use it in private and for business.
Never found one single app not running on the 3GS.

Maybe I'll buy a 4 when the 5 comes out? The iPhone 4 was the first iPhone I've owned but does the old model drop in price as soon as the new one comes out? I'll definitely consider buying another 4 as soon as the 5 comes out. 3GS is probably out of the question for me though, the screen is too blurry for me at this point.

Yes, make a claim against your Homeowners Insurance, they should cover it.

I got an EVO 4G and Sprint service and it works very well. I've been happy with it the whole time, plus you can use it as a decent wifi hotspot.

Upgraded to a 'smartphone' recently. I don't use any of the apps or features except for the browser. The phone drops calls a lot more than my old 'not-smart'phone used to (it almost never did). Is this typical of 'smart'phones? I have a samsung galaxy, btw.

I got an HTC Arrive Windows Phone 7 from Amazon Wireless... For 1 cent plus I got a $25 Amazon gift card. So basically they paid me $24.99 to get the phone.

I'm not thrilled with Sprint 3G coverage. But I can deal with it.

The Win Phone 7 interface is incredibly smooth, fast, and simple. It isn't cluttered or complicated like other phones.

Microsoft finally got it right with this one.

The app selection is very good. I've found something for every purpose I've searched for. Slacker radio for my streaming music. A cool WWI flight sim for my gaming needs (and of course angry birds!). Lots of other gadgets too.

And I don't have to install the devil's app on my PC... itunes!

Yeah, the Windows phones look really simple and clean...I've actually been looking at the Windows phones offered through Amazon wireless but I don't want to sign a 2-yr contract and have my phone super outdated since Windows is getting upgraded soon

Well, unlike previous Windows Mobile devices, WP7 can be upgraded to new versions.

The "Mango" update will be able to be applied to existing phones very soon.

OP you might want to take a look at this:

RadioShack slashing prices of all Verizon smartphones by $100

http://www.phonearena.com/news/RadioShack-slashing-prices-of-all-Verizon-smartphones-by-100_id22030

UPDATE: And now, our sources have reconfirmed that the deal is real and it's indeed kicking off today, September 15th, and ending on October 15th. As you've probably heard, today is the day when the Shack officially ditches T-Mobile and embraces Verizon after a long time of not offering phones for Big Red.

All Verizon smartphones will see their prices slashed by $100, and that includes the hot new Motorola Droid Bionic, which will be sold for the reasonable $199. The Verizon iPhone 4 will be the only exception to all other smartphones and its price will be cut by $50 to $149 for the 16GB model on a two-year contract.

Our tipsters have also mentioned that the full QWERTY LTE-enabled Samsung Stratosphere and the upcoming Samsung Illusion will be available at the Shack as well, but didn't give an exact release date. Select cases and screen protectors will be discounted by 25% as well. RadioShack's initial Verizon lineup reportedly includes the following devices:

Verizon iPhone 4,
LG Revolution,
Samsung Droid Charge,
HTC Thunderbolt,
Motorola Droid Bionic,
Motorola Droid X2,
Motorola Droid 3,
HTC Droid Incredible 2,
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
LG Enlighten*,
Pantech Breakout 4G LTE*.
