Poly Strings: How to decide? or Should you always try new strings?

I love trying new strings. That slight chance of having a string produce better spin and have a longer playability duration. I just cant help myself. Over the past few months I have tried Volkl Cyclone, Volkl V-Square, Solinco Hyper G, Signum Pro Experience, Signum Pro Yellow Jacket, and Tecnifibre Ice Code. I happen to just about love all these strings except Volkl V-Sqaure. I just wondered if any one else out there has a string addiction like me? and how or if you ever settled on a string? Thanks Guys!!! :)

I can definitely relate! I'm still on the search for the poly that I like the best, but also I'm just interested in trying other polys. The only thing I havent figured out yet is how to not break the bank :)

(I haven't settled on a string unfortunately :(

Anyways, I have some RS Paris 18g if you wanna try. Just dm me

a long long time ago, years now, I found the string I like best, topspin cyber flash!, 17g,, price/performance/feel, are my considerations for a good string
but I never stopped testing different polys
from time to time ill string up topsin.CF again and remind myself of that sweet feel, but soon after that a new string comes out that I have to try
recently the new school strings have come out that I needed to try, such as yonex.PTP, head.lynx, luxilon.smart,, all of these are new kids on the block, and are a must try if you like soft strings
tecnifibre also has a new white string that's calling my name, I should try soon..

Awesome! You will really like Tecnifibre Ice Code.... Good feel, durability, playability and soft on the arm even at 55 and up

My limited 4+ hours experience with Technifibre Ice Code 17ga strung at 46lbs was good playability with so-so spin, however, my arm started feeling it in a negative way shortly after I started hitting with it so I proactively cut it out after the end of my second session with it before things worsened.

Based on a another thread on Ice Code, I think my experience is the minority, but I'm not alone.

I love Technifibre's multi's so I was disappointed that Ice Code didn't work for me. Glad it's working for you though !

It is a great string but I always come back to Volkl Cyclone 16 around 53 lbs and I wonder why I ever left!

poly is easy. volkl cyclone, sonic pro, sonic pro edge. sometimes vstar bc i got a bunch cheap.

when i get sick and tired of poly banging up my wrist and elbow and start trying to find a non-poly ... thats when things get ridiculous. ridiculous x 2 when you throw in hybrids ...

The best thing to do is find a poly you like and stick with it for a long time. There is a long adjustment period between strings, especially if you’re coming from a string you have used for a while. I have used Black Code 4S for almost a year and every time I try a new poly it never feels as dialed in as Black Code. That’s not necessarily because the new string has less control than Black Code, it’s just because it feels different than what I’m used to. I have used Black Code 4S for so long that I know the response I will get each time. The bad thing about using a racquet/string for a long time is that it’s very hard to switch gear and play at the same level. That’s why I think Federer made the switch to a 97 sq inch frame during his six month injury break. He had a long time to adjust to it. The same applies with strings.

My 2 main racquets are strung with Tier One Black Knight (mains) and Tier One Ghostwire (crosses). Love that setup. My 3rd racquet, which I use for social games and playing with my kids, I use all kinds of strings and tensions just for kicks and slight hope of finding a better setup than my main strings.

I have some leftover Technifiber Pro Red Code Wax 18g if anyone wants to try it. I'm open to most 17L or 18 gauge poly, preferably soft to medium firm.

I can relate to the OP lol...always in search of the holy grail. Don’t u find that cyclone’s sharp edges are short lived? My buddy says the string loses grip after about 4 hours. Anyways, u gotta try poly/poly hybrid with shaped mains and smooth round crosses. Signum pro poly plasma is my go to cross string cuz it provides soft low powered response with amazing feel. As for the mains, Tourna big hitter silver 7 tour has been getting a lot of rave reviews across the forum. In my short experience with it, I must say it provides great comfort power spin but 17g only lasts about 8-9 hours for me. It has the shape of diadem solstice power (another amazing spin poly but a bit harsh/low powered) while having the comfort/power of cyclone tour. It is a soft string so it is recommended to string a few lbs higher than avg poly. If you ever get arm pain, gut/poly or multi/poly hybrid is also good with SPPP. Spin production with shaped poly mains is absolutely splendid...cant play without it. Gut also gets good grip on the ball. As for multi, prince premier touch or pro’s pro clay court plus (similar to prince premier control) is quite nice because of textured surface for gripping the ball. Hope this helps!

Hyper G changed my life and is somehow semi comfortable, provides a small amount of free power, and gets great grip on the ball. I'm evaluating hybrid setups at the moment and currently am rolling with Klip / Ghostwire.

Yeah you have to stay with the same one. I stayed with RS Lyon for 3 + years and just recently have tried a few options. I found max power rough, which I think is a nice substitute for RS that I can switch in without much difference.

Main thing is to figure out your ideal poly and then just look at variants of that. For me, that is ALU power. It’s my gold standard. But ALU doesn’t last long and costs a lot so I look at similar offerings.

do not commit to a reel of poly until you know you like it
if you thought a reel of good strings last a while, wait until you get a reel of string you don like, it lasts forrrevvvverr.. haaa
