My 16 year old son switched to the new model (black) standard Pure Drive a couple of months ago. He has a really bad habit of banging the frame on the ground after a bad point, and yesterday in a match he had pieces of the flimsy bumper guard loose and hanging off the frame. My question: is the replacement bumper guard / grommet set the same for all the assorted standard Pure Drives? I was about to order some replacements, but some were listed for the GT, or Lite, and I wanted to make sure the frame grommet system had remained the same for the newest model frame before ordering something that won't work. Thanks for any input.

I have done this several times for my apd and pdgt. I bought a second hand pdgt and replaced the bumper, grommets and it looked like new (for a while). Very nice.
drak is correct. It was very painful and frustrating to put on. You'd need the right tool. Initially I planned to change the whole set then after 1 hr I just settled with replacing the one that was broken. LOL.
Don't order just one set. These stuffs are flimsy and don't last long. Order a few and save on shipping.

Wow, they sound really hard to replace. I've replaced the top section on the Becker London's I play with and they are a hassle, but the Pure Drive sounds worse. I agree they are flimsy. My son's frame bumper guard he uses most of the time is just falling apart, pieces chipped off, hanging loose, etc. Might just have to go the old route of athletic tape on the top to keep it together. I doubt he would notice the slight change in balance and swing weight.

Since your son is the person responsible for damaging the grommets, why don't you order several sets and let him try to put it on? It will teach him not to do this to his own frames since he would now know the effort required to replace them. :twisted:

You would need a strong ice picker like tool like this one:
The tip needs to fit through the grommet tubes but doesn't stretch them and gotta be strong so you can pull and guide the tubes through the racket holes. Smooth metal is a plus cuz the grommets won't come out along as u pull out. Flimsy one can't pull, and don't force or the tubes will flare up.

Push it in from the outside, and using an Awl or small screwdriver helps a lot, why don't you invest in some headguard tape, cheaper and protects the frame even more, it is what I have on my set. Nothing wrong with them yet. Although I take care of my frames.
Thanks for all the feedback. The info actually sounds alot like the issues I dealt with in replacing the grommets in the Becker London, which I've done a few times. Sounds like the exact same headaches. Just my luck... ordered 3 replacement sets, son broke both main and cross strings yesterday, has high school conference tourney Monday, and shipment won't be in until Monday night. Guess I'll have to restring this weekend and use tape until the next string job at which time I'll replace it. Excellent suggestion about making son do it to teach him not to damage them. I'm ready to make him sell $200 of video games to pay for a new frame!

when i try to take off the headguard and grommets, it is very tough. they made the grommet hole on the top expanded so it won't come out easy. Is there a easy way to take the headguard off ? I scratched my racket trying to take it off with a cutter.
