Question about hybrid stringing....

I'm a recreational player, but I bought a stringing machine because I'm a chronic string breaker due to the heavy top spin of my semi-western forehand. I break full poly setups somewhat frequently, depending on how often I'm playing.

So my question is this: Is a fully poly setup more durable than a hybrid using synthetic gut in the crosses? I wouldn't see why it would be since I'm always breaking my mains. I figure it would be the same.

And by similar reasoning, would a hybrid with synthetic gut in the mains be less durable than a full synthetic gut, since the synthetic gut mains would be quickly notched by the poly strings?

Thanks!

I am not a string breaker but when I break full poly I break the mains.
I am now playing with poly mains syn gut or multi crosses and I break the crosses more often.
I think the mains saw through the softer crosses.

Theoretically yes. Because poly is the most durable (except for kevlar).

But if you're always breaking the poly mains, than what have you got to lose? Try synth or multi crosses--you certainly get more and better feel.

I just ran into this issue when speaking with a friend earlier today. I'd like to know the answer to this also. I want to say that the crosses do affect the durability of the mains; I broke a full poly set-up in a day once, but when I used the same strings with OG Sheep Micro in the crosses, it took me a week.

did the mains break in the hybrid, or the crosses

it also depends if you have a rough textured poly, because I certainly dont saw through my syn gut crosses in a hybrid set up

If you hit flatter (which I assume you do since you're not a breaker), I would imagine that you would break the synthetic crosses first in a hybrid. But I think with my topspin, I'd still be breaking my mains all the time. I've only strung a hybrid up once and I broke the mains first.

I have a friend who uses poly mains (big hitter blue) and multi crosses (tf multifeel). He always breaks the crosses first.

The softer string will break first. If the strings are the same, the mains should break first.

This is all to do with wear.

I tried Big Ace 16 mains with both PSGD 16 and Gamma synthetic gut 16 in the crosses. The Big Ace always broke first with the Gamma. In the PSGD setup, I just cut it out before the strings broke because the PSGD was fraying so badly. If you do try a nylon cross string, I suggest you go with a smoother string to prevent the poly from sawing into it.
