I don't think it was any kind of beatdown. Nole served well and was very consistent. Nadal had a few lapses and didn't take all his chances. This will be a close rivalry

The scary thought is that Djokovic could have won all three majors this year. I think all that build about the consecutive match-winning streak distracted him and eventually hurt him in the semifinal.

Fed with mono wouldn´t have passed the first round at Wimbledon.
Ralph is nothing close to his best, what´s your excuse about Novak losing to Ralph at USO 2010 and winnin the AO2011.
He´s a completely different player???- Stop talking crap man, a player cant change in such a short period of time.

Sure he can. The guy is 5-0 against Nadal this year you ****. Get your head out of your asss. Idiot.

Nope.

Nadal will be kicking himself for not getting that break in the 4th. I felt the momentum was going his way and Djokovic was getting a bit tired.

Novak played better today and he deserves to win.............RAFA looked really angry though....not sure why ??:)

Amazing performance from Djokovic. Glad he was clever enough to have S-Ved on the last two points (well, the last but one was pure S-V)

Less amazing from Nadal.

mono did affect fed in the earlier part of the season

yes, they can ... Novak of 2011 is by SOME distance better than in 2010. his serve is back, his confidence is sky-high, RoS, defense and crosscourt FH have improved

take another example - that of fed in 2004 , in 2003 only won wimbledon ( slam ) . Then he won the TMC in 2003 and then went on a roll to dominate for years

I don't think he was angry...he just hates to lose! Djoker deserved this trophy, though, and his number 1 ranking. He's had one helluva year.

Who can't? Novak or Nadal?

As for Fed, in 2008 he didn't reach a HC final until 2008 and was losing to a variety of players he never lost to. Nadal on the other hand was never as consistent in reaching the final stages of tournament as this year, this is his 8th final in a row.

On a side note, I think this is the curse of Borg, remember in 2008, Fed was trying to surpass his consecutive Wimbledon record, and Fed failed, And now Rafa try to tie with him the RG-Wim double, and he failed too. Man, what kind voodoo is that! Xd

The next period will be EXTREMELY interesting.

I wanna see how Djoko handles his new nr.1 status, how Rafa is gonna respond, if Fed has life in him still, if Murray is gonna troll everyone and win USO.

Anyway, Djoko should be the top dog for the next 1-2 years me thinks(not necessarily with the top spot, but with most major titles), with DelPo and Murray rising up and Fedal slipping into the background.

Not a day passes that mono doesn't come up on this board.

Are you sure? Nadal has done it many times.

He surely deserves it. Still Nadal had a chance to make it 2-2. He was low on confidence for obvious reasons. Murray would have beaten him the way he played today I feel.

The Nadal era is over. He will have a losing record to Djokovic from this pt forward.

His basic strategy isnt effective against Djokovic so he has to go outside of his comfort zone to beat him, and we've seen that it's not likely.

Djokovic is just as big and fast, has a better serve, better return, defends probably better, and most importantly, perhaps, has a 2 handed backhand that he can take on the rise consistently, unlike Federer.

Seeing McEnroe reminds me that Nole has a very good chance to beat his year-long W/L record. Can Nole finish the year with only 1 more loss? Maybe tie at least.

No offense but Nadal from the get go had no chance today. I thought Nadal would have the edge today because Novak had never beaten him in a slam but that was reversed today. Djokovic has Nadal's number.

Yeah definitely, it was the same Djokovic at the US and Nadal just played lights out, totally aggressive and that's how he won. That's how Federer beats him too. He fell back into defensive mode here too often, and when he did play aggressive, Djokovic mostly played some outstanding defense (except in the last two sets). Nadal could have definitely taken it to five. He played two very poor service games to give it up in the last set. If Nadal can get back to 2010 or 2008 level he will still beat Djokovic. But that's the thing, I don't think he will. Just too many miles on the body. Nadal NEVER made those let ups and mistakes in the past.

By far the best player in the world currently. Nadal was schooled in the first two sets. Djokovic choked the third set and finally played well enough to win the fourth.

If he continues this way, he could become the greatest player tennis has ever seen. I have no doubts he has it in him to be the best ever in this sport.

Ding ding ding, we hava a winner. Good observation.
Though I doubt Ralph is done, he just needs to play with his brain again, he is in pusher mode this year.

I'm with you. But a break chance is still a chance;). I felt Djokovic' level was dropping as the match progressed.

We need some new blood. Hopefully Tomic, Raonic, etc. will also be up to this task. It is time.

yeah and what was the tune you were singing a few days back - djoker is over-rated ?

For the US open the only thing Nadal has to do is work hard on his serve. It needs to be better.

Huh? Rafa served damn good all throughout this match I think but Novak is probably the best returner out there.

Rafa lost the first set while serving 90% and had easy holds for most of the first set.

Look, I feel for Rafa but there is absolutely no way around 2011 Djoko unless he starts to make some UE. Rafa has NO COMFORT ZONE with Novak while Novak does and Rafa can only slip in once Djoko starts giving some points.

For most of this match(with the exception of the third and early in the fourth), Rafa played against a guy that was pretty much unplayable, making winners at will and getting EVERYTHING back.

Sure, I suppose we could speculate that if Rafa won the first or sunk his teeth early in the 4th, he could have won but that's kinda pointless.

The point I am trying to make is that Rafa isn't comfortable with this Djoker(hence the uncharacteristic dips in Rafa's game). He had a hard time with Djoko of the past that would give you an error or two. This djoker is simply unplayable for Rafa, matchup and all that.

I think winning over Nadal in five finals this year and on all surfaces has pretty much proven that.
