Roger Federer out for the rest of the season

The best anyone can say is that they weren't sure of Federer coming back and certainly not sure of him winning 2 slams in 2017. I'm not sure if I wrote him off entirely in this thread, but I don't think I proclaimed a 2 slam winning comeback either. You never can be sure with injuries at his age.

Federer taking this time off might be the break he needs to be fresh--but he has to target just one 2017 major, not beat his body up on smaller, historically meaningless events. He must look at 2017 as "it"--do or die for the end of his career at the majors.

And he did just that and bagged TWO majors.

This thread is absolutely the greatest bump ever. :D:D

If Federer loses early at the AO in 2017 he'll fall out of the top 30. I think just like that this is the beginning of the end. He'll need at least a couple of months to get in the groove and (if all goes well of course) by the time he's in any kind of form he'll be 36 years old.

Yes they do. They deserve to be mocked. It was clearly obvious Federer's knee was the problem, not his game. Any person with half a brain could see it. People like to write obituaries on every player who is struggling physically. That's the trend on this forum.

Oh let me see just one of your posts in 2016 predicted that Federer would come back strong and win slam(s) in 2017?

Now, show me.

 Yeah. Had me fooled when I saw the title come up today.

When I revive a thread, it's more a generic commentary or poll; "who will end up with the most majors created back in 2011! Nole was woefully behind at the time and few thought he would routinely start winning like he did 6 years ago! He was testing both Federer and Nadal at the time, but I think Roger's made it all a futile endeavor trying to supplant his crown! :p ;)

Could the OP or mods amend the title of this thread to "... 2016 season" so that people won't get a heart attack every time it's bumped?

Hey, I made this thread last year. Blame the posters who decide to bump it (don't see the humor in joking with this, but whatever).

What a turnaround. This is why I don't rule out Djokovic's return next year, although things don't look as bright for Murray, to be honest.

His haters explained.

Last July:

  • It's over, can't make a comeback
  • He hasn't won a slam for 4 years, not going to win one now
  • Can't compete in this era anyway and this is the final nail in the coffin
  • Too many people can beat him now. Even the Thiems and Zverevs can. It's over, old man. Lool!
  • Will they give this old grandpa center court even though he'll be like 40th in the rankings?
  • Lool! A 35/36 year old isn't going to win **** because they never do and never have except for in prehistoric times LMFAO,; maybe he can reach a Halle or Basel final

This July:

  • Nobody there to stop him so easy wins everywhere
  • Probably peaking at 36 anyway
  • Everyone injured so this vulture comes out to feast
  • F****
