Shaped Polys and notching

And of course, you are scared to hit a wide serve, see how high it bounces on the backwall, and THEN come back here on the internet to say you are sorry you grossly underestimated my first serve speeds.
It's OK, you can be scared, and you can protect your image but blindly closing your eyes.
Look at the vid again. I hadn't played more than 3 times in the 4 previous months, and that ONE semi first serve, hit with some sidespin, hit around 30" high on the backfencing, the camera placed atop a fully stretched out 48" tripod.
TRY it, but you're scared, you won't.
Can the yellow streak up your back show up more?

As usual, you're full of excuses, and quick to shift the blame toward other things, and other people.

Wait.... :):)
So you're scared to hit some wide serves to see where your serves bounce, and I"M making excuses?
If my serves are "86 mph", how fast are yours, after you try hitting some and see where they bounce?
I hope you are not one of those guys who talk and talk, but never go out on court.

At what point in time did I say I was scared? Maybe it's time for you to go to the home, so someone can take care of you, and you can reminisce about your glory days gone by to them, instead of on here.

So, after seeing my pathetic attempts at serving, are you telling me you didn't later (later) go out on the courts, hit some wide serves, and see if YOUR wide serves bounce around 30" high at the backwall?
Are you telling me you just didn't think it would be worth your while, to double check if MY serves were "86" or whatever speeds?
If you didn't, you have no right to say my serves are whatever speeds, because you didn't try any yourself to see the bounce of wide serves on the backwall.

I hit wide serves all the time. Depending on the kind I'm hitting they vary from 2.5, to 4 feet hitting the back fence. My serves are faster than yours are, end of story.

So, your superlative serves bounce around the same height when you hit them wide, but your serves are faster.
OK.
You DO know that old painted cement courts have the lowest bounces, don't you?
And when I serve or HarTru or indoor carpet, that weak slow serve easily bounces around 4-5' high at the backwall.

You're a big boy, you can take care of yourself. You need none of my concern.
What? Me worry?

take a chill pill and go have a conversation with the wall. Much more effective. You're expressing your idiocy, but no longer annoying anyone.

Lee, you used to be funny, now you're just turning into a mean troll. I would suggest you leave the thread or contribute to the topic.

Wow...I was gone for a few days and look what happened to the thread :p

Anywho, thanks for all the info/advice. Anyone have a recommendations for a slick poly cross? I usually play with 17g strings but I can diversify.

That truly depends on your price range. IsoSpeed Baseline, Signum Pro Poly Plasme, and Gosen Polylon Polybreak are decent choices. There are others that I'm sure are more expensive.

Here are the slickest smooth polys that have been tested in TWU:
-Solinco Outlast 16
-Isospeed Black Fire 17
-Head Hawk 17 (though I believe Hawk 16 will be even slicker!)

Just take any poly string from this table that is farly slick and has the properties you are looking for.

Dunlop Ice is so smooth it's almost shiny, but for some reason, seems to grip the ball just fine on medium to hard shots.

In my next string order, I'm going to try the Gosen Polyon Comfort, based on the combination of price, low friction, and softness as cross string. Gosen also makes polymaster I & II, which I've tinkered with. The smoothness and rectangular shape facilitates (as a cross) main string movement and theoretically increases spin. I think being slippery and soft helps to forestall notching of mains. In fact, I've been wondering what to make of some of the comments above or elsewhere on talk tennis that seem to suggest that notching occurs in cross strings. I've never seen that in my racquets and I don't think I've ever seen it. Have I misconstrued someone's remarks, or are there really instances of cross strings developing notches?

cross strings notch when you use a softer string in the crosses (poly/multi) or when you go full poly. Gosen Polylon Comfort may be worth a try, however, durability will not be the best as its profile will accelerate notching.
Ideally, for a hybrid you want the softer string in the mains, as this will increase the playability duration immensely (check out the explanations on the TW University site concerning string snapback, friction, snapback, etc. for more precise explanations).
I didn't know Gosen Polylon Comfort was shaped, sorry for the confusion :-?

I think most strings notch on the mains after a bit of time, but it might not mean the strings are "DEAD", or unplayable.
To me, older notched mains seem to play just fine with flatter shots, light topspin and fast moving balls.
Heavy topspin, maybe not the best, but I"m not a fan of hitting with heavy topspin anyways. Save that for the few times I need to bounce one really high at the baseline to neutralize a point I've been running and fetching in.
