Softest Polys other than Lux Element?

Hey TW,

What are the softest polys other than Luxilon Element? Element gave me adequate spin, feel, power and comfort, but still not plush enough for my taste.

Thanks!

Yonex poly tour pro is a pretty soft polyester, I’d give that a try. Also what tension do you use?

I had that one in mind, but never tried it before! I usually string Element 125 at 40 lbs in my Gravity Tour. But for you, how is the spin and power on the YPTP?

It’s got good spin, power is not it’s strongest skill but of course the lower you go the more power and spin. Another poly to recommend if you don’t mind a little extra price is Babolat rpm blast rough, that will have more power and way more spin the the poly tour pro.

How’s the comfort though for RPM Blast Rough?

Some of the ones mentioned above are good choices, specifically Volkl V-Star & Gosen Sidewinder. We also like ISOSPEED Cream, Kirschbaum Xplosive Speed, Volkl Cyclone Tour, Topspin Cyber Flash.

Thanks all for your suggestions!

Yonex PTP seems to be the most interesting of the bunch for me.

Considering that I currently use a Gravity Tour with Element 125 @ 40 lbs, how much tension of Yonex PTP 125 in a 360+ Speed MP (racquet I’m looking to buy) ?

I’d say 48-46. Good tension and keeps it comfortable, you can definitely drop the tension if you think it’s too stiff or just want more power, spin and pocket.

I have gone as low as 42/40 on the ptp 1.25. I am liking 43/41 right now. Considering Tiafoe is playing this string at 44/44 (from 43/43), the 1.25 is very amenable to lower tensions. iirc Fuscovics is at ~47 lbs. I have yet to try hyper-g soft but would like to give it a shot in the future. Always looking for a better string.

Did you try Element or Element rough? Also, Isospeed Cream is one of the softest polys on the market.

Despite stiffness ratings on TWU, I find Element to be way softer than YPTP (both 1.25 mm).
Both Isospeed Cream and Tier One Ghost Wire are softer than Element, but they break rather easily.

To be honest, the "breaks rather easily" comes to a surprise to us. Comparing GW with other polys with very similar mm diameters, we thought durability of GW was rather a strength... :)

Prince Warrior Response 16g is a great soft ploy. It's Luxilon Element for $5 a set. No kidding. It feels stiff as heck when you string it, but it plays soft (weird, I know). It also has good tension maintenance. If you're looking for soft with good performance, durability and tension maintenance, try Gamma TNT2. Yes 16g, it's a syn gut, not a poly, but it plays great and does what you're looking for, plus it's $8.95 a set.
