Yonex multis, hmmm, wonder if they are trying to cut into that market as well. Some fun colored multis could be fun and marketable. Poly Rev is a nice bright orange, hopefully their multis are same as well

Good luck everyone! I'll be passing on this playtest at the moment but will be looking forward to reading the reviews...

I've yet to try a Multi from Yonex but their Synthetic is a great and prob one of my favorite synthetics

I'm going to throw name in the hat for this. I usually do a hybrid of poly/multi and need to compare this multi to Velocity.

Wonder what the stiffness will test out to? Looks like regular rexis 16 is 150. Looking forward to some new soft multis on the market. Been messing around with multi hybrids for arm protection

When will this be available for general purchase? Looking forward to trying those thinner gauges!

Given I took that pic on my kitchen cutting board using my cell phone, Ill take that as a compliment.
Just wondering since announcement was just made yesterday and didn’t know if you had your own personal stock of string.
What racquet do you plan on using for this test?

Looking forward to the reviews. Still a newb when it comes to the strings, especially the multifilaments.
What do you normally hit with? I have had some experience with multifilament strings but I think the characteristics of them are so vastly different.

Got on my first TW playtest! I am stoked.

I got the Rexis Comfort. It's marked "Average" on their softness scale. The illustration on the back is different from the Speed — looks like Comfort lacks the (poly?) core bit.

I got chosen as well, not getting the shipment until Tuesday though. Any recommendations on tension for these Multi's? I typically string poly's at 53lbs and haven't played with a Multi in awhile.

Already went on my Gravity Tour @ 53 lbs.

I had a chance to give it a few feed with and had a few hits with one of my student yesterday, reminds me a bit like TNT. It's definitely firmer than X1 or NRG which I exclusively used in my yesteryears. It does play crisper than Velocity or Ytex Microfiber X which i thought was a bit muted.

I personally string synthetics/multifilament 3-5#s higher than poly

I tried some from Prince, Volkl and Wilson, but my only full bed experience was with the NXT. I did like the soft feel and nice control. I wasn’t sure if it would be better for my game than my favorite poly strings, though.

BTW, how is the snap back for the newer multi strings? Any resemblance of the poly strings?

The speed version have some resemblance to poly given (what I would refer to as) there is a semi core design to the string. There’s definitely a noticeable dwelling on contact, but it resembles closer to a soft poly more than anything.

I also drew a set of the Rexis Speed, which is what I was hoping for! I've been playing poly/poly or poly/syngut hybrids lately, so I'm not sure what's the best comparison I can test that would be valuable to write about.

I have matched VCore Pro HDs, so I'd like to do side-by-side comparisons that would be useful to the other hybrid stringing enthusiasts here.

My instinct is to hybrid against Durafluxx, which is Tier One's ALU-ish shaped poly offering. I'm finding the Durafluxx in the 93P to be a little overly stiff and harsh, so maybe Durafluxx / Rexis Speed as a test of the Rexis as a multifilament cross for softening up firm mains.

What should I do with the other halfset?

Could run it as a main with Ghostwire crosses. Could also test it side by side against another multifilament cross, but the only multis I have on hand are Sensation Comfort and Tier One Triumph. Plus, my options for mains at the moment are limited to the reels of PRCW and Genesis Trionic that I'm familiar with.

I wanted to give an initial review for the Rexis Comfort 16 I received as part of this play test. To preface I am a 5.0 all court player and recently switched to a Diadem Elevate Tour and have been messing around with multiple poly poly hybrids but my fall back has always been Hyper G 17. I wanted to try to hybrid setup with the multi mains and tier one ghost wire crosses @ 48 to see how it felt on my arm which can be sensitive at times.

Out of the package the string felt soft and slick almost like it had a coating on it. Compared to the other multis I had laying around ( prince premier, gamma live wire, babolat addiction, and diadem triumph) this felt less "gummy" and more closer to poly as far as the coating. It had minimal coil memory out of the package and was easy to string.

Today put in a 1.5 hour session drilling/hitting with a buddy outdoors. Was in the mid to upper 50s with a small breeze. Initial impressions were it felt nice, not overly muted or powerful with the setup I used. I definitely noticed there was less free spin compared to a shaped poly setup I normally use. The spin was there with proper technique but sailed on me with lazy footwork/strokes. My shots dipped less and my kick serves had less jump than usual. I was still able to direct my shots where I wanted with control. After about 45 min I checked the strings and they already had started notching pretty significantly. Picture attached.

My conclusions after the 1.5 hour initial test are as follows. My arm was no less/more sore than usual playing with that racket and the notching was pretty significant. We will see how much longer it lasts. This racket does chew through strings compared to my blade 98 v7 16x19 and ezone DR 98. Considering the cost of this string will probably be around $17 for a set I don't think I would buy it. It just isn't durable enough and nothing special for me at least. I will update this review once it pops. The other half of the hybrid setup will be used as a cross probably with tier one black knight mains or similar poly on my lighter regular Diadem Elevate.

Thanks TW for letting me participate in this play test. Happy to answer questions others have.
  • What string and gauge did you receive? Rexis Comfort 1.30 (16)
  • Did you install it as a full set or hybrid? Hybrid
  • If hybrid, what was the configuration (mains/crosses)? Rexis Comfort Mains/Tier One Ghost Wire crosses
  • Tension(s) used for playtest 48lb
  • Regular string set up: Hyper G @ 48
  • Racquet used for test: Diadem Elevate Tour
  • Control/Power of test string: Middle of the road power and control, nothing special
  • Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?) I would call it a comfortable semi muted compared to a full poly bed I regularly use
  • Spin- I would say pretty average for 2 round strings. You definitely have to work and have good mechanics vs having some of the crazy shaped polys that give you added spin
  • String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?): I didn't have any
  • Durability & Playability Duration- I don't think this is going to be a very durable setup, at least for my hitting and frame
  • Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?) I think the tension was fine

Rexis Comfort

ATTENTION Potential Hybrid users

I did PTSpin/Rexis in a Solinco 100. The poly is so sharp that it was cutting the coating while on the machine. Off the machine there was no snap back

I intended to do the other hybrid in a vCore 95 but changed my mind about using PTS and instead used Poly Tour Pro. It didn't cut the coating but there was no snap back as well.

I should have done a full bed or went with the multi/poly hybrid. Let's see how this plays. 43/45# on both racquets on an electronic machine.

Was this with the Rexis Comfort or Rexis Speed? I'm hoping to test mine with Trionic 18 Mains, which I've confirmed don't cut into Sensation crosses at least on my crank. I might change plans and use Pro Red Code Wax or some other slicker poly if it's super delicate.

comfort. Is the Trionic the Triangular string from genesis? I personally wouldn't do that as it will probably lock up right away. I'd say go with the PRCW.

I've got Speed, which is the polyester-ish one? I'm hesitant to use PRCW given that it's not that common of a string (and also discontinued). Then again, I haven't heard of any other Trionic users on this board. Perhaps I'll wait until my Polytour Pro gets here to string up the Rexis

I got about 30 minutes of rallying with the vCore 95/PolyTourPro/Rexis Comfort. Comfortable, low powered (this combo), muted feel, good control with PTP in the mains. No snap back but didn't move too much out of place. Low launch angle.

Another 30 minutes plus a doubles match with Solinco 100/PolyTourSpin/Rexi Comfort. Comfortable, moderate power, muted feel, decent spint with PTS in the mains. Strings stuck out of place, fraying. medium launch angle.

I was pretty happy with the way it played and felt. I know that some multis won't pair well with a hybrid if snap back is important to you. I've had some success with some multi's that had a slick cover and a smooth poly in a multi/poly hybrid. Maybe that's what I should have done...but it's already done. I thought that the coating seemed slick enough but what happened was that it is a delicate cover.

More testing to happen. I am slightly curious to get another set and try it in the main for a poor mans gut/poly hybrid. Some parts of this string reminds me of Dunlop Max Comfort.

Got the strings yesterday evening, and planning to string it up tonight. But some tough decisions to make.... should I hybrid or go with full bed of Rexis Speed on my RF97 ? If I use this as a regular string, I may prefer this in a hybrid, but at the same time I am also curious to find out how it would behave in a full bed... and I have only one pack to spare....

Going to recommend you string it up fullbed. I also thought about using it in a hybrid, but it's an extraordinarily delicate string.

Sharing my initial thoughts having just strung it up in a VCore Pro HD with Genesis Trionic 18 mains at 53/56 (Rexis Speed 1.25).
It's super soft, very little coil memory as with most multifilaments. However, this string is both extremely slick AND extremely delicate. I set my clamps to the bare minimum where the string wouldn't slip and it was enough to leave white marks on the multifilament.

After stringing this up, I noticed that my outer mains were already starting to stick out of place. Upon further inspection, it looks like the crosses are already starting to notch just from the passive pressure of the stringbed. Going to play two sets with this tomorrow, but I'm not super optimistic given how it looks on the stringer.

Since the majority are going the hybrid route, I'm going full bed just to see what we are working with here. This will be going into a G360+ PP. Currently having some GE issues so we'll see if this helps out.

I received my playtest set, Yonex Rexis Comfort 16g (1.30 mm), yesterday (4/20/2021) and I am very excited to play with this string.
The package looks nice and definitely, feels like upper-end multifilament string.

I am going to use as a cross string for Yonex Polytour Rev 17g (1.20 mm) main and Head Lynx Tour 17g (1.25 mm) main on my matched Head Prestige Liquidmetal Mids (18x20, 93 sq in).

I am not a regular multifilament sting user; however, all my previous TW tennis string playtest experiences were very positive.
I just enjoy testing different strings, and thank you @TW Staff Tennis Warehouse and Yonex for this awesome opportunity!

Found your recommendation after I strung it up in hybrid. And I totally get what you are saying.

But frankly I don't regret doing hybrid, after a short hitting session today early morning. Of course I am not expecting the setup to last a long time, and understand durability maybe an issue when hybriding a soft string with ANY stiff string. By the way I chose to use Rexis Speed 16 on mains for the first test, with a very low powered poly in crosses (Luxilon Bigbanger). I don't expect this to be a very durable setup, purely because of the cross choice, but will still give me a very good idea about the spin potential of Rexis Speed. Based on how this first test go, I will either use the Rexis as a cross in the next hybrid, or use Rexis as mains with a bit more softer cross to test out the durability. I also came to know that a friend of mine got in the play test, and possibly I will get chance to hit his frame as well to test out the full bed.

Quick feedback about stringing. It was really easy to string, and had very minimal coil memory out of package. Yes this is a soft string, and so need to use extra caution about clamp tension and when doing knots (but nothing unusual for a soft string). It is a stretchy string, as you would expect from any soft multi-filament string. So if you use a lockout machine, consider this extra stretch when you adjust your reference tension.

Durability for me personally isn't too much of an issue. If the arm is happy and the ball has some action...I'm happy. I've done a few multi mains with Black Pearl Rough and have been really happy. The BPR is kind of greasy and the mains slide nicely. It is not rough like Alu Pwr Rough but it is shaped like a clover.

Writing up the initial review now that I've put some solid match time on the Rexis Speed hybrid.

Shaped Poly / Rexis Speed Hybrid

String Received: Rexis Speed 1.25
Configuration: Genesis Trionic 18 mains at 53 lbs, Rexis Speed 1.25 crosses at 56 lbs
Racquet used for test: Yonex VCore Pro HD 18x20

Regular setup:
Yonex VCore Pro HD 18x20 with Genesis Trionic 18 | Gosen OGSM 18 at 50/53.
TW brand leather grip + overgrip, 1.5g lead at 10 & 2

Stringing Impressions:
Very soft and slick. I had to tighten my clamps to the point where they marked the Rexis with white compression marks in order to prevent slippage while stringing crosses. The stringbed immediately started notching just from the passive pressure of the triangular edges of the Trionic. Would definitely not recommend shaped polys or tensions above 50lbs if you can manage it.

Control / Power:
Excellent control while still having easy access to power when used as crosses at 56lbs. I find Trionic to be quite dead at 50 lbs normally, and even with my mains at 53 lbs I could still feel the crispness of the Rexis. Super comfortable, with very good pocketing and clear feedback on off-center hits without being harsh.

Feel:
This string was definitely crisp and comfortable. I like the deadness of Trionic, but found it to be too low-feedback for practicing my strokes and knowing exactly when I hit the sweetspot. Rexis provided excellent feedback without being harsh or sending unpleasant vibrations up my arm.

Spin:
Great, for about 30 minutes. Nowhere near as much spin as I get from full-bed poly, but significantly more than the Trionic / Sensation combo that I tested in parallel.
Mediocre, for the next 90 minutes. Fraying starts at the 30min mark on the sweetspot. Comparable to OGSM crosses that have been played for a week, where there's moderate notching.
Close to locked up after 2 hours of play.

Durability:
Doesn't seem to be any significant tension drop, but Rexis is an extremely fragile string. There were significant notches from the outside mains as soon as the racquet came off the stringer, and the mains would stick out of place before I'd even hit any balls. While this wasn't a problem because coating is slick, this coating wears off quickly and the sweetspot begins fraying almost immediately. I don't think I can get more than 3-4 hours out of Rexis at peak performance, even if I were to use a slick poly (which will be the next test, with Tecnifibre PRCW crosses against Rexis mains)

Tension Findings:
I found 56 to be very comfortable (I usually play poly at 50/52). However, I am going to drop tension significantly with the second half of my playtest to 50 Rexis / 47 PRCW to see if this manages to extend the playability or delay notching of the stringbed.

Comparison against Wilson Sensation as a multifilament cross:
Better control, better feel, better spin for about 2 hours. Significantly better pocketing at a comparable tension.
Much lower durability; this string is far too fragile for my taste, especially for almost $20 a pack.

I played a tournament with this string. It looks like the string is going to break any moment on me. I have to say it has more power than Velocity and better directional control but it looks like it's not a durable as Velocity. I'm going to upload some pictures here.

Include the following in your review:

Background:
I would describe my play as a counterpuncher when playing singles and serve and volley very often. I do not like long rallies. When I'm playing doubles (most of the time) I like to chip and charge to get to the net as often as possible.

Racquet used for test:
Yonex Vcore 98+ (tango red).

What string and gauge did you receive?:
Rexis Comfort 16L

Did you install it as a full set or hybrid?:
I did two hybrid. Rexis as a cross in both racquet. I've been transitioning away from full bed of poly. I've been experimenting with multifilaments in full bed and as hybrid both as a main and crosses. I've hit with Dunlop Silk, Head Velocity, Tecnifibre NRG2, Tecnifibre X-1 Biphase, Tecnifibre Triax, and Pro's Pro Multi. I have Wilson NXT and Babolat Addixion waiting in the wings.

If hybrid, what was the configuration (mains/crosses)?:
The first racquet I did Red Devil in the mains and Rexis in the crosses. The second racquet I had Black Force in the mains and Rexis in the crosses. I played in a tournament with the Red Devil/Rexis Hybrid. I played in 4 matches during that weekend. I also played in two league matches and a couple hitting session. Black Force/Rexis I had 4 hitting sessions with it. These hitting session are an hour to an hour and half long.

Tension(s) used for playtest:
Both racquet the poly was strung at 53 and Rexis both at 50.

Regular string set up:
My normal setup is Red Devil 16g in the mains at 53 and Head Velocity 16g in the crosses at 50.

Control/Power of test string: This is where it's somewhat interesting. The Rexis pair with Red Devil had more control but pair it will Black Force and you have more power. Even on the serve I noticed slightly more power with Black Force. During hitting session when hitting forehand crosscourt I was consistently getting them in with RD/Rexis but when I needed to hit down the line winner the BF/Rexis combo was the consistent winner. Once tension dropped on Red Devil/Rexis my forehand and backhand was lacking depth.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?): I would say the feel is very similar to the Velocity. Both strings are very slick with Velocity slightly slicker. Rexis is a softer than Dunlop Silk and Pro Pro's Multi. It was not as powerful as X-1 Biphase or NRG2. Overall they are really comfortable strings. I didn't experience any arm/wrist pain playing with this string.

Spin: Spin was okay for a bit. I will say the setup with BF had decent spin so far. The Red Devil/Rexis setup tension is noticeably down and spin is not there. I will say both racquet when I'm chipping and charging they were clearing the net and have a nice depth that back the opponent into a corner when I'm charging hard towards the net. This is better than Velocity which tends to float a bit on me.

String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?): I didn't notice this. It appears the strings lock up in place quickly. I had to adjust the polys few times during match play and during hitting session.

Durability & Playability Duration:
I would say the durability isn't great. See pictures below. I feel like the string is going to break at an moment. If you look at the pictures above you will notice Black Force was cutting into the strings before stepping onto the courts.

Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?): Next time I would probably lower the tension a bit to see if doesn't fray right off the bat.

Compare to string used most often: Comparing this to Head Velocity, durability would lean towards Velocity. As for power, I would lean towards Rexis. I feel like I didn't need a full loopy swing with Rexis. I feel with Velocity because it low powered I have to crank it back a bit in order to generate pace and depth on my shots. As for volleys I say they are both are about even. During the tournament I was able to drop some shots in against some of the younger lads. One thing I really like about Rexis is the directional control I was able to get. With Velocity when trying to hit some placement shots the ball would head towards the opponent for a kill which Rexis allowed my to slice the ball away from the baseliner or the net person which I really was on point during crucial times. I would say the slice game would favor Rexis. There were multiple times where my backhand and forehand slices had nice depth if I was approach and when I'm dropping it short I won the point.

List any additional thoughts (optional): It's a bummer I didn't get try this as a main or full bed but I think it would probably work well as a main but don't know if it will in full bed. I'm a flat hitter so it would be an advantage for me but for spin heavy game it might not be there for those players.

Thanks TW and Yonex for this opportunity. I will say this is my second playtest for Yonex playtest and both strings have been solid. I think a member described their strings like "they are the Honda of strings. Their strings does everything well but nothing spectacular" which is a fair assessment.

Now that I've put a solid 6 hours into the Rexis / PRCW hybrid, I feel pretty good about writing part 2 of my playtest.

Rexis Speed / Slick Poly Hybrid

String Received:
Rexis Speed 1.25
Configuration: Rexis Speed 1.25 mains at 53 lbs, Tecnifibre Pro Red Code Wax crosses at 50 lbs
Racquet used for test: Yonex VCore Pro HD 18x20

Regular setup:
Yonex VCore Pro HD 18x20 with Genesis Trionic 18 | Gosen OGSM 18 at 50/53.
TW brand leather grip + overgrip, 1.5g lead at 10 & 2

Stringing Impressions:
A very soft and slick multifilament. Stringing at lower tensions with Rexis in the mains resulted in none of the notching / sticking issues that I encountered when I used poly mains / Rexis crosses.

Control / Power:
Easy power at 53 lbs. Not as controlled as I'd like, in part because I am very dependent on topspin to rein in my groundstrokes. Great touch on volleys and slices.

Feel:
This string was definitely crisp and comfortable. It began to feel a little trampoliney around 6 hours, though I'm not sure if that was due to my PRCW dropping tension or my patience running out and longing for my usual shaped poly strings.

Spin:
Meager bite on the ball, but snapback was fast and easy thanks to the slick poly crosses. I was able to get looping topspin shots, but I had to really work for it and my normal rally balls were much flatter than what I'm used to. I had to put in a lot more effort to hit hard and deep, whereas I could usually just lean on topspin to bring them home with a more spinny/bitey string.

Durability:
Rexis does FAR better as a main with poly crosses than in the opposite configuration. After 6 hours of hard hitting, I observed some very minor notching on the Rexis. Strings did not stick out of place at any point, and the amount of notching on the Rexis mains is comparable to what I'd expect on a full-bed of poly after 3 hours.

Tension Findings:
I found 53 to be very comfortable with great pocketing. Any lower and this would be a rocket launcher.

Final thoughts:
I'd use this as a main with poly crosses if I were no longer able to use full-bed poly. The durability issues disappear in a multi/poly hybrid, and it's quite comfortable if you are able to live with the lower spin potential.

I finally strung up and tried out the rexis speed in my yonex vcore duel g 310 at 55#. Upon hitting for a couple hours my first impressions are that it is a firmer multi and is decent for control. Firm and crisp but also comfortable is probably the best way to describe it. String movement is common among multis but I fell like this string was a bit faster compared to others I've used, moving and sticking at around 20 mins of hitting. So far it's a great multi.

got out and hit with it again today. String movement is ridiculous. it gets locked in with the largest gaps I've ever seen from a string. I think tension also dropped, or the string movement make the center feel a bit looser. I was launching more balls out than last session, and spin was noticeably less than before.,

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. My RacquetTune measurements show about a 12% drop in tension after just a few outings (strung at 58, last reading was ~ 51). That's worse than some polys I've used.

  • What string and gauge did you receive?
    • Yonex Rexis Speed 125
  • Did you install it as a full set or hybrid?
    • Full Set
  • Tension(s) used for playtest
    • 55# on crank machine
  • Regular string set up
    • Last string job on racket was babolat origin at 55#
  • Racquet used for test
    • Yonex vcore duel g 97 310g with some weight at 3 and 9 and at the butt
  • Control/Power of test string
    • I thought with my initial hit that control was quite good for a multi. power was initially lower than I expected for a multi. As the tension decreased, which it did quickly, the power increased and the control decreased immensly.
  • Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?)
    • Yonex Rexis speed is a stiffer crisper feeling multi. Definitely more comfortable than a poly, but if comfort is what you want, look elsewhere. Kinda feels like cheap plastic if that makes sense. kinda stiff and boardy without the solidity of a poly.
  • Spin
    • Its a multi, spin isn't gonna be great. it was decent at first but didn't last more than a couple games.
  • String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?)
    • it locked up and moved around like no other string I have seen. It started moving after a good 2 games, and during my second outing with it, it would get stuck in ways that left gaping holes in the middle of the stringbed.
  • Durability & Playability Duration
    • Durability is a bit below average for a multi. It started fraying pretty quickly. Im not a string breaker and this was just not good. Tension maintenance was absolutely horrendous. the difference from my first outing to my second was crazy. usually multis maintain their tension pretty well so this was disappointing. balls that would be easy when the strings were fresh were launching out the next time. Right now, its so bad, Im just gonna cut it out. Something i never have done before with a multi and synthetic gut.
  • Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?)
    • My initial tension was great for me. If i had gone tighter, I would not have had enough power to play relatively aggressively. Lower, and i would expect myself to be launching balls over the gate after a few hours.
  • Compare to string used most often
    • If i compare it to the babolat origin that i used on the racket before, the origin was far superior. more spin, less stringbed movement, more comfort, and about the same amount of control. If i compare it to polys that i normally use, tension maintenance is better on the poly which is a shocker to me. control is also better along with spin. About the same amount of power as I string my polys a bit lower than my multis, and it kinda evens out.
  • List any additional thoughts (optional)
    • It is sad for me to say that I cannot recommend this string to anyone. From its performance as a full bed, I doubt it would be a good option for a hybrid too. It would be better to choose something like prince synthetic gut with duraflex which is significantly cheaper. I think the black color feels a bit crisper and is more comparable to the rexis speed. the only thing is that the prince has better tension maintenance and less string movement.
Though I did not enjoy this string, thank you Tennis Warehouse and Yonex for this playtest

UPDATE: went for a final hit with it today, and it popped. Just 5 hours of play and it popped. Im disappointed. Note, it usually takes me a good 10-15 hours to pop a synthetic gut.

  • What string and gauge did you receive?
Rexis Speed 1.25

full bed strung at 55# on an Ektelon H

my regular string setup is Gamma Synthetic Gut 17 or Live Wire XP 17 both @ 55lbs

Racquet used: Babolat Pure Drive "Swirly"

The first few hours of play with Rexis right off the machine felt nice. Ample spin, power, and comfort. I didn't notice anything extraordinary, but it played soft and a bit more muted than I am used to with Live Wire.

I thought the first couple of times out with the string were nice and crisp, but once the tension drop happened, I was desperate to have a bit more tension. I got a lot of trampoline effect and wondered if I should've strung higher.

Spin was average for a multi.

I had above average string movement after about 3 hours of play.

I am not a chronic string breaker, but I did manage to pop this after about 7 hours of pretty heavy hitting with my usual drill partner. Average expectancy of durability for a multi.

Compared to Live Wire XP, if this Rexis were priced the same, I would still probably go for Live Wire XP. I thought Live Wire XP has better tension maintenance and stays crisp longer and avoids the trampoline effect for me.

What string and gauge did you receive? Rexis Speed 16L 1.25

Did you install it as a full set or hybrid? Full Set
If hybrid, what was the configuration (mains/crosses)?

Tension(s) used for playtest: 52 lbs

Regular string set up: Head Lynx Tour 17 at 52 lbs

Racquet used for test: Wilson RF97 Autograph v13

Control/Power of test string: My initial thoughts when first hitting with the string is the control was good but it lacked quite a bit of power considering it is a multifilament. I soon realized the firmness of the string was causing the lack of power for me. As the tension dropped I started to lose more and more of the control, but it was still manageable in the 4th session.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?): On my first initial hit I was surprised by how soft and comfortable the strings were. The more and more I hit with them, and as I started to swing a little bit harder, the softness in which I initially felt became more of a firmness. They had a nicer crisp sound and were still very comfortable especially on volleys. I did not feel any kind of arm pain while using them.

Spin: When the strings were fresh, I felt like I was getting comparable spin to poly strings. But as I got into the 2nd session, the spin quickly died down. I was still able to give the ball height over the net, but after the ball bounce, it would kick up no higher than to my hitting partners waist. And no matter how I tried to adjust my stroke, I could not it the ball to kick up.

String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?): Yes. Halfway through the 1st session, the strings started moving around and getting stuck. I will say, the coating that was on the strings, allowed for the strings to pop back more often and easier when I had to move them with my fingers.

Durability & Playability Duration: Currently I am 4 hitting sessions in, about 6 hours. I can see a significant wear in the middle of the stringbed. 2 of the strings have shredded more than halfway, and I anticipate them breaking in my next session. These strings definitely played the best during the first hour of hitting with them. As time progressed, I lost the ability to spin, less control, and the strings felt more firm.

Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?): As it stands, I do not think a tension change would help in making the strings play better for me in any way.

Compare to string used most often: I currently use Head Lynx Tour 1.25 17. The only upsides Rexis Speed had for me was the comfortability and feel. Everything else did not match up to the Lynx Tour. The Lynx Tour had more spin potential, comparable control and power, much better durability.

List any additional thoughts (optional): These strings are very very slick and have a god coating on them, so when I strung these strings, I had to tighten all my clamps quite a bit. The other thing I noticed was the strings are quite light. I noticed a significant swingweight drop with these strings compared to other strings that im used to using. Which meant I had to swing a little harder to generate some power. Overall for me, it has been love/hate with these strings. My 1st session, the initial hits were, I loved these strings. Everything about it felt good. Very soft, no arm pain, great feel, good control, decent power. But there was something in the back of my mind, and I just couldn’t fully get on board with these. As I started to hit more and more with them, I started to see the bigger flaws and why it would not work for my game. The lack of spin is the biggest no for me. I think a player that likes to hit flatter balls and get up to the net to volley, this would be a good choice for them. And maybe if its 16 gauge.

Update: 5 minutes after taking this photo, I was warming up and the strings snapped.

What string and gauge did you receive? Rexis Speed 1.25mm

Did you install it as a full set or hybrid? Full bed

Tension used for playtest: 58lbs on a Wise 2086 (constant pull, no pre-stretch)

Regular string set up: Laserfibre Native Tour 17g strung at 55lbs

Racquet used for test: 2021 Yonex VCORE 98+

Control/Power of test string:
Control: From the ground, I had a few minor issues with control. I was swinging my normal swing and the ball seemed to be flying a bit long on me. This was likely due to the combination of increase in power and decrease in spin (going from a poly to a multi). However, after a little adjustment I was able to dial in the depth. Serves seemed fine as I was able to move it around the box well, and volleys were excellent.
Power: While not a powerful multi by any stretch, it definitely had more power than my normal setup. Serves & volleys seemed to have a bit more pop, and as I said above, my ground strokes were going a little long at first.
Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
For a multi, I'd put this in the medium-firm category. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it wasn't what I'd expect from a string in the 'multi' category. I was reminded of the Tecnifibre HDMX Floro playtest a couple of years ago. I did have some nice touch volleys during the doubles sets I played with it. There was never any arm pain.
Spin:
My strokes are fairly flat off both sides, and this string did nothing to help me out in the spin category. Launch angle seemed to get higher as the string wore on, which made it harder for me to control given the lack of spin.
String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?):
After using either gut/poly or full poly for the last 15 years, I forgot how much strings used to move. I was straightening them within the first 10 minutes, and continued to do so for the entire playtest.
Durability & Playability Duration:
I got about 8 hours of drilling, singles, and doubles (~ 2 of it on clay), and they were starting to get a bit uncontrollable. I'd say durability-wise, they were good for another 3-4 hours if it was desired to play them until they break.

Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?):
If I did it again, I might bump it up to 60lbs to see if I could get a little more control from the baseline. However, I was a little shocked at how much tension is lost over the playtest. The following RacquetTune screenshots show (1) off the machine, (2) after 2 hours, (3) after 8 hours:

51183096782_87158e462d_z.jpg
51184858870_ea85d1393c_z.jpg
Compare to string used most often:
When I switched back to my normal string (often I'd play the 1st set with the Rexis, then the 2nd my normal string), I noticed a significant increase in spin, but a slight decrease in feel. Power was also slightly different, but with my normal string I felt free to 'swing away', where with the Rexis I really had to focus on the stroke and how hard I was hitting. It was often easy to overhit.
List any additional thoughts:
While I normally don't use full beds of multis, I like to demo other setups so I can offer an informed opinion to those I string for. I probably wouldn't recommend this as a full bed to most people, as normally they're looking for comfort when it comes to multis. But I might consider it as a cross to a stiffer poly to help soften the stringbed. The coating seems like it would allow poly mains to slide back & forth effortlessly (although not sure how it would do as the coating rubs off).

Regular string set up: Signum Pro Tornado 17 or Yonex Polytour Fire 17 or Solinco Tour Bite 17 in mains. Prince Premier Attack 17 or Head Intellitour 17 crosses.
Or Natural Gut main with soft poly in crosses. Really the only setup I do _not_ use is poly main+poly crosses.

Racquet used for test: Yonex VCore Pro 97

General Disclaimer: I'm not married to any particular string brand, or string setup. Or to a particular tension. In general I'm in the camp that if all strings were black then it would be really, really difficult to tell any difference. And I do not subscribe to various theories on 'string pocketing', or 'string spin/power/control potential'. Since I can't measure it I'm not going to claim a given string is 'better' regarding these characteristics.

Control/Power of test string:
Control: All good. Pretty much as any other setup. It's the player, not the strings.....

Power: All good. Pretty much as any other setup. It's the player, not the strings.....

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
It is very soft string. One can see during stringing how much it elongates. Makes it very comfortable and easy on the arm. Very good complement to a poly main.

Spin:
All good. Pretty much as any other setup. It's the player, not the strings.....

String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?):
I've used a round slick poly as mains which allowed both the mains and the crosses to return to its natural position. No complains at all.

Durability & Playability Duration:
This is not a durable string - but I think it is expected given how soft it is. Started to see wear after about 4 hrs of hitting, broke after about 7 hours of hitting+play. I'm _not_ a string breaker at all, and the string was strung at rather low 51lbs - but still it broke sooner (for me) than another similar setup with Prince Premier in the crosses. I would say string were playable for ~5hrs, I just continued to play them till full break. That Yonex Rexis in crosses did not notch main poly like at all.
I do not think that string would work for me as mains as it would last even less.
That being said - felt very, very nice for the first 4 hrs.

after about 5hrs of hitting

Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?):
I was very satisfied with chosen setup. Perhaps upping tension 3-5 pounds would be still perfectly fine if one prefers more tension. It would likely however lower durability even more.

Compare to string used most often:
I would say it felt very similar to my other setup with Prince Premier Attack cross. Similarly soft string. Possibly a bit less durable.

List any additional thoughts:
I would have no issues using that string as crosses. It is soft - easy on the arm. Slick - allows strings to slide very nicely. Very nice string - while it lasts.

Did you install it as a full set or hybrid? - Full set
Tension(s) used for playtest - 53 lbs on Alpha Ghost 2
Regular string set up - Volkl Cyclone 1.2 @ 51 lbs
Racquet used for test - 2020 Head Gravity Tour
Total hours tested - approximately 8 hours

Control/Power of test string
Relatively firm string for multi with nice power and pop. The string feel a bit slick for me and seems a bit of unpredictable with control when I dont swing through the ball.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?)
It's surprising that string does not feel like a multi in my opinion. As mentioned about, while it's firm, it does not have the crisp-ness that other multi provides. In some ways, it feel a bit like a slick poly or firm synthetic guts, with more give. I can't say the string was not comfortable, but comfort did not come to mind.

Spin
For me, spin is where the string shines the most. With the poly-like charateristic, there were plenty of grab, which made spin creation relatively easy, even through a 18x20 pattern. Back spins were bittng for me.

String Displacement (Did the strings get stuck out of position?)
Given the dense pattern, there weren't too much movement for my playtest.

Durability & Playability Duration
Average. Cross string is showing noticable notches. There is no noticable string fraying at this time.

Tension findings (did you like your tension, would you use a different tension next time?)
If I was to restring onto the Gravity Tour, I would lower it 2-3 lbs just to open the string bed up for more feel.

Compare to string used most often
Gamma TNT was the first thing that came to mind. Firm version of TF X1 Biphase if it exists.

List any additional thoughts (optional)
I would've like to string it in hybrid setup. This string may provide a nice pairing for people would are looking to go hybrid, but with a more pop.
